Smart Butterflies! (Mariposas inteligentes) I’m from the USA and if I could migrate anywhere south it’d be there to that beautiful Mexico forest
@briansieve6 жыл бұрын
The coolest thing to me is that these particular butterflies have never been to Mexico before, they were born in the far north US or Canada. They are later generations from their ancestors born in Mexico. How do they know to return to a place they have never been? They are my Patronus and favorite animal because they are a metaphor for me. My great-grandma was born in San Luis Potosi, had her Quince in CDMX, El Centro, and lived in Coyoacan. She married and eventually moved to California where my grandma was raised. Then my grandma married my grandpa after WWII and came with him to Saint Louis. I was born in Saint Louis and moved to Chicago where I found my spiritual connection to Mexico and started returning to Mexico, the land of my heart and soul! When I move back home to Mexico next year, I will be like the Monarchas. I was not born there, nor was my dad, but our ancestors call my blood back home to La Tierra de mi corazon y mi alma!

The locals believe those butterflies are their ancestors coming back to visit them. They appear as butterflies because they want their living relatives to know they still love them. I've always found that quite heartwarming.

Michoacan is ONE of the most beautiful places in Mexico..... It has many beautiful lakes, Thermal areas with geisers, volcan, colonial cities, magical towns, beaches... the food there is unique... Avocado fields in a large area. The water just comes out of Earth(so many water springs everywhere)... it is full of life... BUT... It is sad that our economy and government are very bad so we cant enjoy of our own land. Thank you very much for sharing ... great videos... By the way, the butterflies make their migration to Canada/USA in 3 Generations, but they make their trip to Michoacan Mexico from Canada/USA in a single generation (super migration).
@momothinks92926 жыл бұрын
That was beautiful to see in and of itself. I’m glad you two got to experience it. Additionally, it occurred to me that the bonus beauty of those butterflies or birds who migrate is that they don’t see walls or checkpoints. Their earth is one and the same everywhere, and they are free to come and go whenever they want.

So awesome! Glad to see a video featuring monarch butterflies! Just a NOTE FOR EVERYONE from Mexico to USA to Canada. These butterflies depend on flowers during their travels. If you would like to make their trip a little easier you can always plant Milkweed, Purple coneflower or other butterfly friendly plant at home. You'll be sure to get lots of traveling little visitors in your guarden.

How lucky you guys are to get to experience that. I didn't realize there was one of the sanctuaries in CDMX. I started learning about the butterfly migration in 2013 for photos. I took a trip though the Hill Country west of Austin and south in October hoping to find some of the butterflies. Texas is the major path of convergence of lines of migration from Canada to Mexico. Google butterfly migration maps and you'll see lots of maps. We in Texas get nearly all the lines going through. Only the far East Coast and far West Coast lines have different migration destinations. Through my photo friends I've heard several times about some of them in the Dallas - DFW area but I've never seen more than a couple here, with the exception of the Butterfly House at Fair Park. So I went chasing butterflies and only found one bush that had a bunch of them on it, and that was in a state park. It might have been Inks Lake. I've seen the TV programs of them in south central Mexico. Look on Google Maps at Reserva de la Biosfera Santuario Mariposa. Maybe you could do a small trip there. It's amazing. Mexico has some 12 sites preserved for Butterfly Santuaries. You've seen a lot more than I have. It was beautiful. I loved how you filmed up at the butterflies. Maybe one of these days I'll get to go.

I'm glad you enjoyed this but you need to do it again. Next time, make sure you get up to the butterflies before the sun hits the trees. In the cold of morning, the trees are so loaded with them that the branches all hang down, and when the sun gets high enough and hits a tree, all the butterflies on that tree take off at once and fill the air. There are so many that they bump into you and you have to stand still so you don't hurt them. The horses are nice, though; we walked up and my asthma just about killed me. Love your videos! I've been living in Jalisco for 14 years and I'll never move back north!

That looks amazing. One September while on a friend's sailboat on Lake Michigan, we were followed by Monarchs on both sides of the boat, flying at same speed of the boat, on their way to Mexico. Really cool. Would definitely see that butterfly sanctuary if I make it to Mexico again.
I am from Mexico and I do not miss your videos, because I really like to see foreigners like you enjoy the beauty of my country, besides throwing away the stereotypes that exist about my country.
@LuckyBaldwin7773 жыл бұрын
You're very lucky to have seen this. Those are the wintering grounds for the Eastern Monarchs (east of the Rockies). The Western Monarchs winter in California near Monterey. In 1847 John C. Fremont rode into a small valley in the Sierra foothills and was amazed that it was covered in so many Monarch butterflies that as they took flight, scared by the men and horses, the giant flying cloud completely blotted out the sun for almost an hour. The place was named 'Mariposa.' This year at their wintering grounds in Pacific Grove near Monterey, not one Monarch butterfly has shown up. 173 years and the white man has driven the Western Monarch to extinction. The saddest part is, very few people even give a damn.
