Because unlike the maximum speed the different road conditions actually can dictate you to drive below minimum speed limit. This doesn't exist for maximum speed limit and so calling it a minimum speed limit is kind of wrong. E.g. There are such signs on German Autobahn on steep hills. In case of traffic jams, this sign would essentially mean that the traffic jam would have to be restricted to the right most (sign-free) lane and the other lanes would have to be kept free, wheras that is not the case, all lanes need to be used, even if you drive below minimum required speed. That's why I find it really difficult to insist on calling this a minimum speed limit.

In Ukraine, there was at least one more than reasonable use of that sign: there was a huge pipeline - like such that countries use to export crude oil - but used for ammonia. (The total consumption by numerous chemical industries at the terminus and convenience of the mass production at the start justified such means of transportation). Well, over the pipeline ±150 meters, minimal velocity has been enforced by this very signage - and rightfully so.

Of course, you can't legally drive these with a normal agricultural tractor licence class L (which is included in the passenger vehicle licence class B) or the agricultural licence class T. All very clear now, Sir. Thank you, Sir. Speaking of Minimum Speed limits, btw: When a friend of mine had her driver's licence, first longer trip she took was to visit me. After about 2 hrs of driving Autobann on her way to our village, there was a road (Landstraße) with a very dangerous turn. Hence, there was a speed limit of 70 km/h. (I usually took that turn at 60, max.) She very agitatedly complained that there was this speed limit which _demanded_ that she took that turn at 70 km/h, claiming that she was glad she had made it out of that alive... (!) It would also be beneficial to point out that the minimum speed limit is most commonly used for one lane on a multilane road. For example, you might have one lane with a minimum speed limit for fast traffic and another for slower vehicles. The only places I’ve seen this were on a steep uphill gradient. The slow lane was intended for heavy vehicles that couldn’t get up to speed uphill.

@@Inkyminkyzizwoz it is that concept, but there is a bit more freedom in its usage. I know of a local Autobahn where there is a steep uphill and there are three lanes. in the rightmost lane there is no minimum speed limit, so everybody can get up that hill. in the middle lanethere is a minimum of 50 km/h, so that fast trucks and buses can overtake slower vehicles, but not everybody just piles up in that lane. in the left lane there is a minimum of 90 km/h. no truck or bus will be able to do that speed up this hill, so this is essentially a lane only for cars. this consept can be expanded for 4 lanes with smaller steps in the limit for example. for a steeper hill the middle lane can even get a lower limit or sth. i like it .

Almost no German knows, that there is no speed limit on Kraftfahrstraßen. But they act like the Autobahn.

That’s not true, though. A Kraftfahrstrasse doesn’t necessarily have a physical barrier between the opposing traffic directions, nor is it always outside of „geschlossener Ortschaften“ Generally speaking, 100 km/h is the limit on Kraftfahrstraßen. Specifically where above mentioned conditions apply, there’s no speed limit. In specific cases you’re right, generally speaking you’re wrong.

@@StrayFire there are no speed restrictions IF: -not in towns -lanes for each direction -physical barrier between opposing directions. The speed limit is generally 100 km/h unless these conditions apply. §18 StVO. Funny though, how you scream in disbelief 🫢

@@gustavgans8278 That's because you're talking about exceptions. These rarely occur on Kraftfahrstraßen. It's like saying that there is no speed limit on Autobahnen because that only applies when there is a wide shoulder lane. The norm is that there is no speed limit on modern Autobahnen or Kraftfafhrstraßen unless it is posted. Even on Autobahnen, it may happen that you are only allowed to drive 60 km/h over a long section. Is it therefore correct to say that there is NO speed limit on Autobahnen in Germany? NO!

Kasseler Berge, Autobahn 7. It is the only way to make sure that the "middle lane snails" go over to the right lane. Honestly, we (nine of us singers of a choir) were going down south with our 1976 VW-minibus and we were towing a trailer full of our equipment. No problem when the road is even but 70 horsepower are not a lot anymore at a 10% gradient or even more. We had to go down into second gear and that meant we had to fight our way up amidst the lorries who were working hard as well.

I mean, the "no speed limit on the Autobahn" is utterly irrelevant, if constant construction works and resulting traffic jams limit the the speed anyway on 99% of all Autobahn roads.
