I'd been shooting wildlife for over year with the EM1.X and really loved having all the essential controls in the right spots when shooting Portrait mode. So I missed that when I got my OM-1. However, now that I've added the battery grip, I'm loving having those alternate controls again! Curious why you didn't also bring the 150-400mm? I'm absolutely LOVING it, especially when spotting and then tracking BIF.

Just found your channel, love your review. I have had the E-M1 ii for 5 years and the only time i take the grip off, is to charge the battery. I agree these small cameras benefit with a grip, especially with heavy lenses. Hey who are the subtitles for? As an Aussie I could understand you perfectly. 😊

There seems to be a bit of debate about whether or not the OM-1 produces improved files, or rather the output is basically the same as the last sensor, in the EM cameras. I'm not sure it matters that much really, but it would be nice to know. Do you notice a difference?

Hello! I have an option to buy used m1x for 1100 USD or new om1 for 2k usd. Is it so much better for use om1 with 300f4+ mc14? . or I will be fine with m1x - I'm usually shoot birds on trees, not in flight

Based on what you said, I would suggest that the E-M1X would be the best choice. The OM-1 is much better at bird and animal tracking. However, the E-M1X will handle better with the 300mm f/4 and it does a great job with stationary birds and a decent job with flying birds -- especially larger bird. I own the E-M1X, but do not have the OM-1 yet. I love my E-M1X -- it is built like a tank and simply make shooting a joy -- great user interface and it feels like it was made for my hand.

Tend to carry two when shooting video, and the was a marked improvement with the X and 3 in tracking which previously was NOT so good. When the software up date made the 2 nearly as good as the 3, I kept both, with the 3 having the exchangeable battery grip and same batteries. They get beat on, and they take it pretty well. The image stabilization is good enough that I rarely need a tripod unless I put the teleconverters on. This means being able to shoot from the ground, standing in surf or up in a tree. Olympus? Been with them since I had the film OM-1 in 1979. They can honk all they want about FF etc, I have done the math and optics. I have done the finances for top quality reach. Good video, lad.

Really right stuff has a bottom plate that extends the grip a bit if your pinky falls off like mine does.

How far can you push the ISO with the OM-1? Love my LUMIX G9 except night photography. Thanks a lot.

I've seen some really sharp, clean shots from the OM-1 at ISO 12800-16000, when run through software like Topaz Denoise AI.

I have recently changed from using really high end Nikon gear Z9 and 400 f4.5 etc. Was waiting on the Nikon 180-600. Went on a trip using OM-1 and 40-150 f2.8 with TC 2.0 and 12-40 f2.8. I came back and after taking the big Nikon our the bag and tried the 180-600 and then calculated the cost to buy a Z8 as second body and a 70-180 f2.8 plus the TC 1.4 and 2.0 and extra batteries for the Z9 and Z8 compared to the OM-1 and an EM1X as second body, the 12-40 f2.8. 40-150 f2.8, 300 f4 plus TC 1.4 and 2.0 plus extra batteries? Plus the joy of small and light gear for constant travelling, the quality of the images and the technology build into these 2 cameras that together cost 20% less than the Z8 alone. I bought all the lenses in top condition used from a dealer and saved another 40%. Apart from the savings and the size and weight benefit, it is a magic system to use. Yes exposure requires more attention but that is what photography is all about. Not missing the big gear and love the extra cash.

Wasn't an in depth review but some thoughts on the two cameras. In depth reviews down the line! :)

The much brighter EVF and more precise Subject AF AI are two noticeable improvements of the OM-1 over the X.
