A Morning in the Infantry | THE HEAVY CARRY
I joined the Mortar Platoon on week 2 of their cadre where they had the heavy carry - essentially a whole morning of carrying all the mortar kit and going through various drills.

When you first join the army, how do they introduce you to running with a lot of weight? Do they begin with having you walk a long way with the kit and then introducing running? Or do they just make you run straight away?
@corripresh194
@corripresh194 2 жыл бұрын
In basic I did a 5k run without weight as a taster of what would come, then they introduce weight at around 5kg and it’s a mix of running and speed walking pretty much, and then slowly increase weight to 20kg on your last tab, then depending on what role you choose it can go up to 40kg+ in phase 2 and in regiment

Any chance of doing a Sniper Cadre? Snipers seem to be the most prestigious role in the Forces. Would be good to see a modern day Cadre 👍🏻

Best part of being a grunt is carrying a pack in excess of your body weight. 50 cal was 2 belts at 15kg each plus a part. From the top of my head the body was about 28kgs. When you weigh 60 odd kgs life gets painful

Mortar barrel: 12.7kg Baseplate 11.6kg Greenies: 10kg Personal weapon: 5kg Loaded march kit: up to 40kg As an attached medic on Herrick our patrol load was over 40kg, more for longer patrols. But yeah, only bootnecks carry heavy loads.
