Allied forces battled Bulgarians, rapid disease and harsh climate in northern Greece from 1915-1918. Despite being one of the most formidable fronts of WWI, it is less well-known in modern memory. Five books on the general subject. In Fall 1918, didn’t it Franco British offensive trigger German capitulation. Nothing remained between Salonica and Berlin, as I understand it. But I was ignorant about the preceding two years, except for Gallipoli.

Excellent presentation. I learned a lot. Diseases. what type of malaria? Sounds a little like US Civil War with Malaria, dysentery, typhoid. For Some of these there were early vaccinations in WWI, but ratio of deaths from illness vs. enemy action (majority in Civil War) seems even higher, which is surprising. Quinine was treasured in both wars, especially in Mississippi Valley and Virginia Tidewater.

A friend of mine, Bulgarian, once said that after Bulgarian mistreatment of Macedonia in WWII, Macedonia would never join with their Bulgarian confreres.
