This plugin is actually quite handy! I like how you can finalize the tone with the Aggravator. And not terrible on cpu consumption.
@PippPriss2 ай бұрын
To be fair, the CPU consumption is the same as using the regular NAM plugin, but it makes sense - the neural network remains as complex and heavy, no matter if NAM native or NAM Universal. But what I found out doing some tests with STL plugins recently is that using standalone plugins consume WAY less CPU than running them in Reaper, so maybe that is where you're coming from.

But then I noticed a German beer Oetinger bottle standing around... and German words without american accent. That was the Krank Krankenstein video. Than I checked your profile on Facebook. I am a hobby musician drummer, who grabbed some Donner guitars, just - really just to check amp sims and modelers. And a bass, of course. And a used FloydRose guitar. That's why I came here. And - you deserve way more subs, dude! Great content! Thanks! So, why you don't have the typically German accent? Schöne Grüße, aus dem Norden, bei Osnabrück!

First off, thanks for the kind words! Well, the reason is "simple": I am a half-Puerto-Rican/German descendant, born in Wuerzburg, and thus being US-American! Still confused? :-D Honestly, I've been born near Wuerzburg on the military base, that makes me a US-American born abroad, soldiers' kid. I spent some early childhood years in the US, and English was my first native language I learnt, so that stayed with me accent-free. My mother however is German, so after my parents split, we came "back home". Being a child of my mother, I am automatically German as well, so I am a registered dual-citizen. Switching to German... While I do get the potential convenience of said plugin, you can build this signal chain by yourself with two instances of NAM, a compressor and a stereo IR loader then save this template. If you have TwoNotes' Genome, it can also load NAM profiles.
@PippPriss2 ай бұрын
Absolutely right. But for standalone operation without a DAW, you only have Tonocracy, which I find a bit tedious to use. When GENOME is released as a standalone, things will start to become interesting. And in itself, GENOME is already cool as is.
@scharrface2 ай бұрын
@@BrunodeSouzaLino for sure. Better for standalone use though and saves a lot of time and clicks workflow wise. When you want to change sounds you can just change presets in one plugin, instead of having to adjust two separate NAM instances, a dual IR loader, an exciter plugin and a multiband compressor plugin. It also supports stereo functionality so you can also save on CPU by running your L and R guitars through one instance of NAM U instead of using 4 NAM instances, two IR loaders, etc. just another free tool in the tool bag! Not meant to replace anything necessarily, but if you don't already have genome and don't want to spend 80 bucks just to use Codex (if your like me and only use Genome for NAM), it provides a solid free alternative

I have a bunch of NAM caps that aren't in the plugin install, so they'd only work on my machine and with the same folder structure,. In that case I'd just make DAW presets for NamU and call it good. I get it from a workflow standpoint, and if you use a lot of the fx in NamU it makes more sense to have presets or fx chains/channel strips etc. Just saying

I am unfortunately one-sided deaf, so I do not hear things in stereo, but only in pure mono. Thus, I basically never bother with the stereo aspect of plugins. @Skullkingd132 ай бұрын
There are not any "factory" presets provided with Nam-U at this time, with future updates this may change. In the meantime, you can create your own presets using the provided Profiles and impulse responses to use as you see fit, the X on the Left will delete the selected preset permanently, so take caution when pressing it to be sure you actually want to delete the loaded preset. The Disc button, as Phillipe stated, will save your current instance as a new preset, or using the same name, write over the original. Once you have created a preset, clicking the Preset label bar will open the drop down menu to reveal your preset/s.

Why is the instigator unnecessary? It allows you to shape your input signal like on a Mesa Mark series amp which really helps tighten fat captures like dual recs or fatten thinner captures. Unnecessary? I mean I guess, but useful? Absolutely

Can you elaborate how they ignore real world physics? With NAM and ToneX, you can, with great accuracy, replicate the behavior of your specific signal chain with grwat accuracy. If you are not mindful about the impedance curve of your loadbox, how it works together with your amp while creating a NAM profile, what IR fits the tone of that etc., I can see where using this technology can yield to inferior results. But using the proper tools, I was able to achieve quite impressive results which matched closely the original recording chain (so basically , amp+IR were very close to a full rig recording chain of amp+cab+microphone).
