@@SurecDs-dw7uo Electronics without the 'engineering' part on the other hand can be a lot of fun. Important is a basic understanding of signal flow. Once you understood what the most basic signal voltages and processors in a modular synth do, you kinda get a feeling for that stuff. Electronic components like ICs, transistors, pots, switches, resistors, capacitors are like modules in a modular synth, they just do certain tasks and processing of incoming electric voltages on a lower level and you there's plenty of instructions on how to combine them according to what you wanna do out there on the internet. Even without some kind of electronics degree or deeper understanding of the circuits you'll evolve into getting a better understanding of what the components do so you can tweak or replace them to taste or combine them in other ways. Big rabbithole. I will now force myself to stop the infodumping on you. :D

@81giorikas
@81giorikas Ай бұрын
Yeah but again, this is not what these things are supposed to do. So you and I shouldn't compare. It is different. Coming from a guy that yesterday used two 4x12 and two 1x12 combos running together with multiple routing and effects I get what you're saying. How the hell am I suppose to drag all that to a gig, even if it was in a bigger space which probably will not... Volume aside I have to downsize and find a way to send a signal to the board which will be good and consistent no matter what...that is what these units compare with. That is why Joe Satriani used a tech21 plugin for the latest album and he had every or most hi end amps in his studio it was pretty amazing for him to actually acknowledge that. Many purists would deny to even use that.
@marianstephan4676
@marianstephan4676 Ай бұрын
i never got the use of that. i had to use ear protection because of the volume, micing it sounds way worse than going direct and shit's heavy. i had tons of boutique tube amps and different 412 cabs and now i'm playing a hx stomp/nano cortex board. never looked back.
@81giorikas
@81giorikas Ай бұрын
@@marianstephan4676 It is what it is. As far as inspiration goes, for me it does not compare. I like my bubble of guitar sound bouncing around 3d in the studio. I throw delays and choruses and the dry guitar cabs and it will never ever compare. It also does not compare when you have a loud band, unless you are running twin SRXs with subs you do not have a wall of sound with an hx stomp whereas with a tube amp or solid state and cab you have. Micing does not sound worse it can even sound way better for two reasons. One, you have the micing position changed in real time and second, you do not have blend shit in the IR departments. IRs are long eqs. Multi point. Nothing more nothing less. They are not dynamic and even faking impedance curves via software is not the same feeling or magnet interaction with the speaker. You need real current to have real negative feedback for your amp. But even if you say you don't need that a lot of times these multi point eqs come with power amp curves or room reverb curves eq'ed in. That is what they do. Now, micing a guitar cab always can have problems with close micing with a dynamic mic to avoid the band noise etc and getting insane low end due to proximity. You have to eq out some stuff. IRs don't have that problem but, room reverb is then played in another room and that causes a lot of times phase cancellations and empties the sound in some areas. Which is why a lot of times guitar modelling dudes live tend to get lost in the mix and overcompansate with honky mids...it is what it is. You can hear the alice in chains sound guy analyzing it in tone talk. So guitar cab micing? Needs experience and some work on the fly. Many players don't have the patience or experience to do so. Yeah modelling stuff is great for that. But is it the same or as inspiring as a guitar amp even live? For some it may be. For me it is not. Never ever. I kind of don't like it because I don't hear what I play as easily. I also don't want in ears. If these solutions work for some, more power! I'll try to carry as little as amps effects etc live and it will still be a burden vs modelling but as long as I can I will to be honest. It's about the experience and joy. If it was my money to live with I'd go live as cheap and as efficient in weight as possible. That is why every major band carries lightweight axe-fx racks vs multiple tube amps and cabs.

The modulation delay so far flying a little bit under the review radar, albeit it is pretty tweakable and powerful. By setting the delay time short you can get some decent chorus sounds or by setting it even shorter and adding more feedback, flanger sounds. If you apply some high pass and low pass filtering you can make the delay really sit well in your mix without interfering to much with your original signal. So, to me it is a little bit more than just a nice to have gimmick but an actual full replacement of an external delay pedal.

ToneHunt has a huge collection of NAM profiles. Pipp's & Dom's (chainsaw) are there too.

I use NAM with power amp only captures. I plug into my preamp or pedals, run into PC, use NAM with the power amp capture and Cab IR. It crazy cool.

Can these things be used with bass? I think it'll work great with a bass too. Bass parts usually don't change tone in the song. I just stick with one and just change like 2-3 times throughout the whole gig.

Yes! You can make NAM models of any amps / pedals / preamps etc... just load up some nice bass amp models / IRs (plenty on Tonehunt) and then you're all good!

I am using a nice Ampeg Portaflex capture with the according12" cab IR and a P-Bass with flats on it and I'm loving it. Definitely not the most versatile setup but the sound I always was longing for.

@@fuzzaldryn9626 oh man, I could not find a good sound for my P-Bass 😢 My sound is a Darkglass emulation for my Spector bass. Any chance you could share that with a fellow bassist?

Less than 1ms latency is nuts. 500 + tax and this replaces an entire basic rig: on board tuner, an overdrive, an amp, delay, tremelo, reverb, a cab IR loader... what else am I missing? I may be insane, but I think this is not only the best priced, most powerful, but also most well spec'd modeler on the market?
@PippPriss
@PippPriss Ай бұрын
If you can sacrifice the delay, it can also be turned into a Chorus/Flanger, because you can set the time super low up to 6ms and set LFO Depth 🙂And it also has the capability to split the signal before the IR loader, so you can run both into a poweramp+cab and into FoH simultaneously!

Units like these sometimes lack a very important feature which is DI amp+cab processed output AND amp output (no cab) for power amp+physical cab, simultaneously. No fun listening to my sound on stage thru a wedge or in ear, I need/want my physical cabs. Now the NAM Player sharing the FX loop with the 1/4 OUT is a no-no...

Hi Ola! Dear part of your fans who come from Indonesia, I have a little advice for you. Yes, maybe there are many out there who still don't have enough money to buy an expensive guitar or effects, perhaps you would like to recommend entry level musicians to buy cheaper effects such as the M-vave blackbox at a very cheap price. If you are willing to review the M-vave blackbox, thx🤘
