Hi Vince. My friend has a HW57 and after shooting his and watching your review I bought one in .22 😊 used it for the first time Saturday, old joe had the first shot 😂 I put half a tin through it. Unfortunately I was the first person to dry fire it ☹️ I was loading it with the barrel pointing upwards and the pellet fell out and I didn’t notice. I’ve now changed my loading technique ( thumb pellet in and slide down loading port with thumb behind pellet until fully closed ) so this will never happen again , 👍 fantastic little rifle and a joy to shoot really happy with it. You're not alone, I've done exactly the same when pellet testing, I didn't notice a loose fitting RWS Hobby slipped out until I fired....scared the life out of me because when dry fired it makes a helluva crack. From new my .177 HW57 was pathetically inaccurate. At 15 yards 4 inches was "good". I have found several forums on the internet where people have experienced the same abysmal performance from the HW57. I tried several different brands and tried different pellet weights with no luck. Those same pellets grouped fantastically in my HW95K. I tried three different scopes on the HW57 just in case there was a scope problem and these scopes work fine on other rifles. I was lucky in that I found another forum where an HW57 owner had bought a rifle which did not group at all until he tried sizing the pellets. This transformed the rifle and he claimed it had become his most accurate rifle. I bought a 4.50mm pellet sizer in the hope that it would make things better and I was very impressed. My rifle will now shoot half inch groups at 25 yards without difficulty. I tend to pass the pellets through the sizer three times before shooting them. If you are having accuracy problems with your rifle, you are NOT the problem; these guns can be very pellet sensitive. Try a 4.50mm pellet sizer and hopefully you will see an improvement.

@@OldFashioned-h1k very valid comment my friend. I will say something though not all rifles like the same pellets. I've said this numerous times on the channel, you could have two hw57s or for that matter 77s/97s/95s/ and so on but that doesn't mean they'll like the same pellets. My 77k shoots RWS Superdomes superbly but my 57 hates them. It's all about finding the right pellet for the individual rifle. Sometimes we have to play detective and find out what causes issues with a rifles inaccuracy, be mechanical, ammunition, optical or just good old user error 😉👍👍👍👍

I was the fella who was also having trouble with the 57 (6" groups), during stripping the gun to fit a tbt kit I looked through the body , through the pellet gate and down the barrel and everything was perfect aligned, so when the gate is fully pushed down the issue isn't coming from there 😮 , since then I've added new breach seals , wound the trigger spring out 1.5 turns and swapped to baisley magnums and it's shooting like a trooper, they certainly like a lighter trigger and I suspect the original power over the chrony of 11.8 was making these rifles more unstable when firing as they are a very light gun 🔫, having read alot of threads on these 57's it seems they have 10mm more piston travel than its more popular brother the 99s , I definitely think a short stroke kit would be worth thinking about going forward 👍🏻

I have to say the video was more in response to various comments with the loading port not sitting flush and those who say the pop up breech pops up unintentionally. @@rapalaron6348 I think Ron alot of negative issues stem from heresy, then maybe say a couple of problem rifles or user errors then get generalised across the whole. This also happens in reverse too, someone gets a pretty sweet shooting heap of junk rifle and next thing it's suggested these are amazing rifles (think Gamo there 😉). 👍👍👍👍👍👍

@@vincentenglish8489 Agree Vince, and even if there should be signs of wear after ten thousands of shots on that little part than you just replace it together with the seals. No big deal. I lubricate regularly the moving parts on all my guns, especially the detent pin or ball and the barrel latches, also a light touch of silicone grease on the breech seals and things will last for ever without any malfunction. Hi vin, I’ve had my hw57 since 2004. Only had it serviced once and never had a problem with loading port. Probably over 10,000 pellets through it.

@@SteveBrown-b4v exactly Steve my friend. I would never say it's not impossible that a rogue rifle slips through but to generlise that across the whole production run is being unfair. Reading across the airgun forums it seems that it's split 3 ways equally, those that have had issues, those that haven't and find them good rifles, and finally those that have never owned a 57 but have a friend, cousin, brother, sister, great uncle 10# times removed that heard that these rifles had issues so of course it's a heap of junk...😉👍👍👍👍👍

Hi buddy, I did a review on the CLX SE lightning November time, not sure if it was the latest model although it was a brand new gun that had only been in the shop a couple of weeks. Hi Vin, does the 57 have two breach seals on the loading port. I really do like the rifle and the pop up port. Don't understand why the rifle isn't as popular as the 97 or 77. Great video and good luck on your new permission.

Good vid again Vin, just wondering if you have any tips or tricks on range finding when hunting? Do you have a set parallax and judge distance by eye or use parallax adjustment for range or maybe just a laser range finder? Hunting I’d class as actively stalking and having to shoot on the fly as it were, not sat in a hide shooting at set distances. Also have you ever shot HFT?

@@mattporter2170 hi my friend, now I do carry a range finder but truthfully that gets used the most doing videos (KZbin viewers are a very untrusting bunch and for good reason). I find I can judge ranges pretty well +/- 1yard at sensible ranges. However to answer you question I do have an excellent tip which is a scaled down version that I was taught in the military. Firstly find a known distance that is measured accurately, say 30 yards. Now using your normal walk step count how many steps it takes you to walk the 30 yards. Once you know your individual unit of measure you can then practice every day wherever judging distance using everyday objects. For example when walking down the road pick say a postbox, when you think you're at 30 yards count how many steps you take to reach it and compare it to your individual unit of measure...after awhile and plenty of practice you can get awfully good at judging distance 👍👍👍👍👍

What's your opinion on the 57 ? Im toying with either getting a bullpup pcp or a good underleaver springer . I don't know what the chap who cant group is using for sights, my hw80 was spraying shots everywhere until I changed my scope, now she is spot on again 😊

@@kelvinsparks4651 I think the 57 is a good solid rifle, accuracy is on par with all my other HWs, power is a smidge over 11fpe, decent Rekord trigger and best of all no worries about getting smashed fingers or arms like an orangutan after carrying it around all day 👍👍👍👍

Hello Vin, another informative vid 👍 Out of interest, when seeking a permission to shoot rats/rabbits/pigeons etc do you offer to pay for e.g. a yearly permission (much like a fishing permit) or is it generally a quid-pro-quo arrangement, with the farmer getting pest control and the shooter getting a few bunnies and pigeons for the pot ?

I think the problem is compounded by not knowing the full sales statistics against returns. You will always have failures, and the people that have those will likely shout louder than those who have had a rifle for 10 years without any problems. It wouldn't surprise me though if some of the problems are caused by rough usage / poor maintenance and the odd tinkerer here and there.

(No good for single shot tray on PCP's, or my CP2 due to not being accessible) but May be quite useful with a Break Barrel Springer, what with cold hands & fingers !! I've just bought a brand new HW57 in 177. I'm having difficulty in getting it to group. OK it's had less than 200 pellets through. Trying to find a good pellet for it. I get one make of pellet that starts to group then on the 6th shot it will be all over the place and then the rest are all over the place. Could be me, but my TX200hc groups fine and so does my HW99s. In fact the TX groups with most pellets even cheap ones. I know you did pellet testing and ranked the best ones 1 to 5. Could you list them here for the HW57 please so I can try them. Cheers

Try QYS Streamlined and QYS Domed, JSB Exact 8.44 4.53mm, Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum Heavy and Weihrauch F&T Special. Hope this helps 👍👍👍👍 Ps also Bisley Magnums..tried them today, under a 5p size 10 round group at 25m 😉👍👍👍👍
