I realize that I am an outsider to this debate over what type of Pope (traditional vs. progressive/innovative) because I am an Orthodox Christian and not a Roman Catholic (much of my family is Roman Catholic however, and I love them, so I find myself concerned about their church). Many Traditional Roman Catholics seem very frustrated with the Pope of Rome. I have heard many hurt and sad Catholics discuss his papacy with worry and disgust. Our Orthodox bishops, archbishops, and Patriarchs we like, we pray for, we sometimes get mad at themor don't like them, we pray for them, we guard the faith and pray for them, and if they become heretical, we work to replace them...and pray for them and for their salvation. This is happening right now. Is Pope Francis a Catholic heretic? honest question. Not baiting. I don't know how to support my family in their crisis but to pray to the Holy Trinity, to the Theotokos and all the saints, but it seems your Pope is breaking up your church. If he is a heretic (not my words, but words I have heard spoken by Catholics), what can and should be done? I am sad on your behalf. Lord have mercy on me a sinner, Lord have mercy on Pope Francis, Lord have mercy on us all.

@@KentuckyFarmstead Christ himself answered this question like Luke 9:49-50. Whoever is not against him is for him. The Pope is not explicitly against him, he can't be. Even if he is evil incarnate, he is still bound by the Church and limited in what he can do. Having said that, Pope Francis is not a heretic. He is largely ignorant and led by modernist values and outlook which often clouds his views on certain topics. He's someone who took the words "I desire mercy, not sacrifice" beyond it's scope. Ultimately, God is in control. Whatever happens. This is the Church of Christ. So it's only obvious we are persecuted in any way imaginable. But I'm thankful our fellow Orthodox siblings are doing fine at least. The Catholic Church will return to a very a small number in the future. Its just our time for the fun. That's all.

As a Filipino, I am torn about Cardinal Tagle. One part of me wants him not to be elected because I really want him back in Manila. Another part of me wants him to be elected because it's going to be a huge pride for us Filipinos as the third-largest Roman Catholic population in the world and because he is also capable of being Pope. I was taught that the Pope was for life, unless illness, or some other serious, personal occurrence, would cause him to resign. I realize that Pope Frances is receiving much criticism from Priests& Parishioners, in the USA, which I’m not aware of happening here in Canada. I would assume, from what I’m hearing that the largest issue, is that so many want to return to the Latin services, & to be honest it is my own preference. However, having been taught all my life that the Pope is infallible, I cannot understand how Priests, & practising Catholics can, in good. Conscious, can be so critical of his decisions.

I have a feeling that, if ever Cardinal Tagle becomes future Pope, he will actually be much more "conservative" that people seem to suggest. This kind of stuff has some historic precedent in the papacy I think. Of course, his focus on the Church's social doctrine, and his outreach and love for the poor would still feature strongly if God ever chooses him.

There's a new form of vocation flourishing now in the Philippines: the Solitary or Eremitic life. Hermits are not only solitaries but when called for, they can get involved in ministries that conventional religious communities are not able to reach out. If Cardinal Tagle comes out as Pope, we can be the more effective especially in other countries.

Ratzinger in the international theological commission and made cardinal by Pope Benedict and was also called a favorite of Pope Benedict and now a collaborator of Pope Francis. What's the difference? I'll take a Cardinal who loves the Latin Mass, conservative and brings Catholics back to reverence and truth of the gospel of Christ! Unifying all, scares me since the world is made of different cultures and people experience God in different ways, this is very important for Church survival. I'm from the Philippines and I may have a small amount of bias towards Cardinal Tagle to be the next pope, but I still believe whoever becomes the next pope should be a healing pope. Heal the wounds of war, of indifference, of prejudice, of poverty, of the spiritual injuries of this pandemic. Having said that, Pope Luke/Lucas or Pope Rafael would probably be apt.

if "Francis" was a name chosen to show the church's focus to the poor which was needed when Pope Francis was elected. I think that right now the church needs to focus on right doctrine, on truth Veritas even when Veritas it is not famous or loved. And so I think the next Pope should pick the name "Dominic" Pope Dominic the preacher of the truth. This would show that as Francis and Dominic were different and both helped the church to grow, so too two different popes will also continuing to help the Church to Grow. So let us bring about Pope Dominic.

Orthodox Christian here. Honest question without guile: why? what attracts you to the eastern rite? The liturgy is indeed beautiful ( I see commonalities in the TLM - my brother is a trad catholic). It's interesting we (Orthodox) have western rite parishes. What do you like about the Eastern rite that attracts you. For me, I loved the doctrine or Orthodoxy before I even attended a Liturgy, but the Liturgy brings heavan to Earth. Blessings...and soon a blessed great Lent to you.

Progressive is unfortunately synonymous with heretical. Both Tagle and Zuppi refuse to call active homosexuals and the divorced and remarried to conversion, which is really what they, and all of us, need to hear. Nobody is owed a place in the Church, and nobody is owed the Eucharist. It is only given to those who have accepted the grace of repentance and who truly strive by grace to live a holy and righteous life free of sin. My hope is for Tagle or Sarah--men who actually preach the need for grace, repentance, and salvation, i.e., actually preach the Gospel.

Totally biased: I love Cardinal Sarah! At the end of the day, I’d just like a Pope who finally caries out Vatican II: a lot of Latin, Gregorian chants etc. All the licence that happened after Vatican II has nothing to do with what was decided by the Concile.

My Choices for the next Pope are Cardinal Turkson,Cardinal O’Malley and one other Cardinal from Europe. These Cardinals have held high positions in the Catholic Church. They are known to the Curia,the College of Cardinals,and throughout the World.They have those qualities of Leadership to become Pope. Over the last 100 Years,I would say that Pius X11,Paul V1 and Benedict XV1 were chosen, because of their Palpability at the time.I would say the two greatest Popes over the last 100 Years were John XX111 and John Paul 11.It will be Our Lord Jesus who chooses the Pope at the next Conclave. He has always done this in Conclaves.I hope one of my three Holy Cardinals will be elected Pope at the next Conclave.

@Tercio Novohispano to be honest I'm a little shocked to see a Catholic talk podcast behind the idea of removing the current Pope. I've been Catholic all my life and thought they stayed in until death. This will bring no doubt more division. Which I don't want. But since the Priest scandal that started 20 years ago(at least on the media) there has been a break up in our community. The protection of pedaphile Priest has not been addressed completely. If you read your Catholic Bible St. Paul warns in Acts, Roman's and Corinthians about the break up of the church. Hopefully this won't lead to it.

@Tercio Novohispano I use to be a traditionalist. I didn't like people who weren't Catholic too. My point is I accepted later un life the schisms the break aways etc. Not everyone will be the same religion. Ive moved on from that. Heaven is full of Christians. Now that's my belief. I am Catholic because I believe that's the best way to get me there. I understand too that people need traditions. It is important. I didn't like Francis squellching The Latin Mass. Hopefully it will come back because it made our faith rich. It's not for everyone. God bless and keep believing! I love these conversations because I always learn something new.

I use to think everyone should be American. Not really anymore. We are no greater. And when it comes to our Christian faith I except my Christian brothers and sisters from other Faith's as equals. I look at our past (The Church) and see greatness with dysfunction. Many mistakes were made and I can't say anymore you need to be Catholic. I say follow.. "The Way" follow Christ to the best you can. Let go and forget the world for a moment and focus on Heaven and how to get there. It brings a new light to the soul and mind. God bless.

5:8 I'm from Africa and I cannot agree more. Our bishops and cardinals are among the most rigid about Church teaching, because on the continent we do not face the problem of Atheism or secularisation; catholics or not, people have faith in the divinity. Cardinal Sarah would make a great pope. Cardinal Arinze before him would have make an excellent pope too. There is no liturgical war in Africa. But I'm pretty sure, an african pope would be difficult to bear for Europe for many reasons.
