At the time of this video, the Qingping Motion & Light Sensor T is only one of two motion sensors that use Thread, with the other product being the Eve Motion. Whilst both use Thread, only the Eve is also currently Matter compatible, although if you're on a budget, the 50% difference in price the Qingping offers may be enough for HomeKit users, which also offers better mounting options.
In this video we compared the reaction speed of the Qingping to the Eve Motion, the Hue Motion Sensor, and even an old Zigbee sensor from Mijia. When it comes to ambient light sensor tests, we put it up against the aforementioned devices from Eve and Hue, as well as a dedicated Mijia Ambient Light Sensor.

Really looking forward to Nanoleaf’s Sense+ light switches supposedly coming soon, finally. They say they’ll have motion and ambient light sensing in the light switch as well as being thread. Really excited to have hardwired sensors.

Thanks for the review! What’s the response/update timing for light sensor in this one? For example, turn on/off the light at night, how fast would it update to the new value? Specifically in the Apple home app? I use light activated scenarios and it’s pretty important for me.

The value for the light sensor updates after around 6~10 seconds. The QingPing app records the current lux readings every 15 minutes.

@@homekitnews thanks! So no real difference with the Aqara one I have. That’s unfortunate. Guess there are some physical limitations to the response time related to how these sensors measure the luminance 🤷‍♂️

@@macdee1337 yes I can only imagine the way lux sensors work is different to motion sensors.

I bought one of these after watching your KZbin review - it’s fast, and comes at a reasonable price! Thanks. I do have one question - any way to tell the up vs down of this round sensor? The little brochure that comes with it does indicate that it has more of a downward scan when mounted appropriately at about 7 ft height (as do most motion sensors). But I can’t tell which way is up. 😁 Anyway, I like my Aqara Zigbee devices, but these are even better since the light sensor is exposed within HomeKit, and for those without an Aqara hub, will be an easier addition.

That’s a good question - I’ll speak to my contact at QingPing to find the right answer.

Hi, after speaking to my contact at Qingping, he informed me there is no up or down, so it doesn't matter which way you place it. The diagram showing the coverage area is based on the sensor being angled (slightly) down, not facing forward.

What was the name of the other light sensor that was on the fridge?

Hi, it’s the Xiaomi light sensor. I don’t think it’s available any more, unfortunately.

Would you abandon the eve motion for the Aqura presence sensor?
@homekitnews

I have room for both, so it’s not an issue.

@@RussellHogan I should also state that until Presence sensors can react as fast as standard PIR sensors when it comes to motion detection, I still think devices like the Eve Motion have a role to play.

@@homekitnews That’s good info. I just ordered some eve motions. I will wait awhile for the presence sensors. 😀

@@RussellHogan I have to say the Aqara FP2 has been really useful for me and largely free of issues, but it’s not for everyone. I’d say it works best in more open plan spaces, or larger rooms, especially if you want to create zones. But if you just want it in a room to simply detect the presence or absence of people, it still works very well. Eve motion and others are very fast to react if you want lights (or other things) to react fast.

This device is from xiaomi? Can it be used with the MiHome app?
@homekitnews
@homekitnews Ай бұрын
This is by a company called QingPing that is a supplier to Xiaomi, but not owned by them. They do an M version with Bluetooth, that works with Mi Home. This Thread version will not work with Mi Home.

@joelevi9823 I only have the Thread versions, so I can’t say if the light sensor is exposed to Mi Home for use in automations or not, sorry.

These have been just HORRBILE for me. I cannot get these to connect to Qingping app, and I find them flaky at best with Home kit
@homekitnews

I know it might sound like an obvious question, but are you using them with Thread? If they’re on Bluetooth, then typically most Thread enabled devices give poor results.

@@homekitnews BTW, I was curious so I compared the sensors lux readings to an actual lux meter (we have a lot of plants, lol, and no not that kind 😂) and I found these to be rather high as well.
