- how much protein needed, 6% only ? McDougall says 3% only ?
@BartBVanBockstaele Жыл бұрын
@@vimalkirti4845 Percentage is irrelevant. The total quantity counts. Depending on how much you eat in a day, on average, you may get away wth very low percentages or need higher percentages. Take the amount of protein you need in grammes, multiply it by 400, divide the result by the total number of calories you need, and you have your answer. This is not rocket science, just something that is not usually talked about, almost certainly because it is indeed so simple. It is also not very useful. Just something that is nice to know if you are into this sort of thing.

Elephants, silverback gorillas, giraffes, hippopotamus, chimpanzees, horses, moose, deer, elk, antelope, are all mammals as are we human beings. I don't see any of these animals running around panicked that their diet isn't providing them enough protein. Chimpanzees are our closest animal relative - 2% of their diet is "meat", meaning insects and the occasional cannibalized neighborhood monkey. None of these animals exhibit protein deficiency. A cow doesn't eat meat nor drink milk - how do you suppose it builds its magnificent structure? It eats plants!

All I know about eating protein is that my fasting blood glucose went from 200 to 98 in three weeks by changing my diet and stopped eating most carbohydrate. I already stopped eating grains with gluten 30 years ago when I developed an anaphylactic reaction to gluten. When I became diabetic a few months ago I quit all grains because that was what was jacking up my blood sugar. Now 1 month with no grains and very low carbohydrate’s my fasting blood sugar is 30 points lower 😮I also walk 3-5 miles a day every day! I am shocked that my body is so much healthier! I also am much less congested! I don’t need to take as many antihistamines as I use to just a few days ago.

Humans have the ability to fast. Other primates do not have the ability that’s what made us able to be mobile. You’re getting a reaction as if you were in famine mode. how long can you be in famine mode? You need to get to complex carbohydrates for a long-term basis. Man did not spend almost 2,000,000 years eating large quantities of meat. At best He was a scavenger of meat, not a hunter. He mostly made his diet from things he found in the ground not on the grocery shelf. He was not even able to make a spear untill about two or 300,000 years ago much less make it with anything on the end besides sharpening it. Somewhere along the line he was still needing food . He wasn’t eating tons of meat and oil ,then what? Complex carbohydrates…💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

The big problem is if the companies that sell cheese meat, etc. call things protein. When you go to a restaurant they ask you what protein you want. You could just as easily say what plant proteins do you have. The problem is no one thinks to do that, they’ve been told that protein is only dairy meat, etc. They do not say necessarily that it’s any specific meat because that’s been taken out of the equation just beef pork chicken, they sneak cheese in, that’s what they want you to think when they say what proteins they don’t care what specific one you get. Its the same reason that there’s many restaurants on the same corner that are fast food. You’re still buying fast food that’s what they’re trying to sell when they say protein. It can be anything but never …plant protein...

If the ingredients come from a long way away and they're contributing to the deforestation of the Amazon (think soy), then meat from a local steer raised on grass may very well be easier on the planet.

It was gratifying to hear him admit that the early demonization of saturated fat, by Cancel Keys studies was over done. Also that Keys himself ate some higher fats, tho probably not sat fats! I have a recollection of seeing him in an interview saying that sat fat was not really the culprit that they first thought, but, can't find a link! A good discussion, actually, about proteins. But, one point to bring out is that fats have twice the calorie amount that carb and protein have, and typically, you eat less that way, and also stay satiated longer ,meaning less meals per day. Interesting ly, cows convert grass into fat and protein the same way that plantbased people get it, by eating , grazing all day long, even more than six meals and three snacks each day.And when they are fattened up for processing, they feed them grains! Two questions. When you stop everyone from eating meat, cows hogs, deer, what are you going to do with all those animals? Deer are hunted now to keep the population down for safety reasons. No one is going to raise cows or hogs if they have no purpose, they are not pets! Finally, how many farm implement machines do you use to raise a cow on unusable mountain side grazing land, as opposed to harvesting grains and veggies? Burning diesel fuel on millions of farmland acres to plow, fertilize, harvest haul and dry, probably several gallons ,at least, don't you think?

I totally agree that there is an unbalanced view of what protein is and how much is needed. I do subscribe to a plant based way of eating and I get plenty of protein. I maintain muscle. One thing I was thinking about, though, as the Earth is going through these changes with climate problems, the heating of the oceans, the heating of the Earth itself, destroying of insects, pollution, natural disasters, wars … It’s not unfathomable that famine could greatly increase globally. Lower crop yields and soaring prices making food less attainable for the masses. I wonder if it’ll get to the point ( Not sure in my lifetime or not) where people will just be happy for any food? Ie, One old can of tuna and concentrated long shelf lemon juice to last a week. IDK. Of course, that would solve the overeating problem. But I wonder how long the body would stay healthy? Because I know fasting research has shown some benefits as regards disease and mental clarity. Anyway, sorry, just me wondering. In the meantime, I will continue to try my best to help the Earth and other people, and maintain my plant based way of eating to help me be as healthy as possible to deal with whatever is to come. 😅❤

I know I am a bit late, but I have seen this over and over again from plant-based diet afficiandos. What do you do when you have a digestive problem like IBS and so on? Many plant-based foods are triggers. Just look at legumes, nightshades, cabbage-like vegetables, many raw versions of vegetables, cereals and so on. As far as I know, red meat, which is much vilified anymore, is not a trigger. Also when you have these issues, you have the nasty side effect of not being able to absorb many of the not-so assimilable plant versions of minerals like iron and vitamin A. So you end up deficient in those and not able to gain benefit from supplements because they tend to have the same issues as the plant-based nutrients. I personally feel like we were not meant to be exclusively plant-based either, otherwise we would have a very different kind of gut. Granted, I am not a specialist, but it's common sense we were supposed to get our nutrients from many different sources including animals.

@@RichS.74yroldbodybuilder I don't think that's a good analogy - because I bet some people would do that - because meat is meat in the end! Actually cultured meat supports the idea of cannibalism. The issue is that you have to raise the livestock if you culture the cells - so how many livestock need to be around and taken from before you get something viable? It reminds me of the neuralink experiments along with others.

Most crops are fed to animals, to fatten them up and then slaughter them. So veganism still comes out on top if reducing death of animals is your aim.

When you talk about plant proteins not being for personal health, I agree 100%, I tried for 2 years. Now I get all my protein from animal foods only and my health is way better than it was when eating plants only or when eating plants and meat.
@extropiantranshuman Жыл бұрын
just because plant proteins bothered your body - doesn't mean you take a step backwards to animal proteins, but instead look at what's wrong and see how to improve. Did you not look around as to what's ailing you to do better? I mean what was going on? There's plenty of allergenic plant proteins - maybe you had an allergy or sensitivity? Maybe you ate unhealthy plant foods? I get this channel generalizes, but don't let that get in your way!
@davidhogg1216 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think you listened well. @ 10.00 on the message on optimal protein source from plants is very clear. The reference to Campbell and Gardner leaves no doubt.
@extropiantranshuman Жыл бұрын
certain plant proteins are very sickening - due to allergens - like soy, peanuts, tree nuts, and gluten. So if you avoid those and focus on hypoallergenic sources that don't trash the body - maybe you'd find more success. Just because the plants you ate didn't work for you - doesn't mean you go to meat - you instead look for the plant-based foods that do work! Why go backwards when you can move forward?
@gerard6629 Жыл бұрын
. Your argument sounds sensible. However we don’t see the example you set forth by your horse in the wild. I don’t see the majority of vegans with stellar physiques. Most vegans I see are rather thin and frail. Also you mentioned how meat consumption causes inflammation. How do you explain my low H-CRP level even though I eat over three pounds of fatty meat a day and maintain lean muscular physique? This is not unique to me, many other only meat eaters experience similar results.
@extropiantranshuman Жыл бұрын
that is just one inflammatory marker. Have you looked at the other markers? Well you have lean muscles - because it sounds like you eat a lot of fat. If you eat a lot of fat and not as much protein - then the fat protects the protein in muscle - the muscle breaks down a lot less. Less protein circulating in the blood - fat gunks up everything. So same thing in the liver - if you have a fatty liver - then your liver can't really do its job. Have you checked to see if you have a fatty liver? All of this is guesswork - I don't think much about issues like these due to my test results being ok too. My doctors always told me my health is better than their patients combined and always ask my secrets and I do plant-based. What's your problem with it? I don't want lean muscles - I want muscle bulk - and the issue is that meat doesn't bulk muscles - it gives lean muscles! It's plants that bulk the musculature.
@extropiantranshuman Жыл бұрын
what is your guess? Are vegans getting high levels or something? Is every meat eater lke this - or just a few?
@gerard6629 Жыл бұрын
@extropiantranshuman Don’t have a problem with plant based and don’t have any health issues. I Have a problem with people spouting things based on non science. People need to stop blaming meat for what ultra processed food is doing aka soda/juice and fries. Look up the ingredients in breakfast sausage and ask yourself why is sugar an ingredient. Sugar always gets off the hook as if it’s none issue, the problem is always blamed on the meat.
@extropiantranshuman Жыл бұрын
@@gerard6629 but the reason why people blame animal-based foods is for animal-specific issues - like cholesterol. Oil is bad too - many fats are. Of course sugar will be blamed on the meat - without it - there wouldn't be a maillard reaction - because sugars are stored in muscles in some way. These maillard reactions I heard have health issues. With plants - you can eat them raw - and with it being watered down and with fiber - it's much different of a story. I hope that makes sense. This is from my scientific knowledge. Yes I don't like when people tell others what to do when they have 0 medical expertise - even if it's plant-based, as they can be wrong! And they don't care if someone gets hurt - they only selfishly want their way - and that's severely unethical to care more about animals than people. We all deserve respect, no matter what.

His characterization of Ancel Keyes is highly inaccurate . He is misleading , cutting fats is crucial down to 10% and it does not mean to add processed simple carbs. Whole plant based diet eschews sugar and processed foods and simple carbs. Ancel Keyes was not on a high fat diet.

Doctor, you're wrong. Carbohydrates NEVER get stored as fat. There is an interaction between fat and carbohydrates. The body prefers burning carbohydrates as fuel before any other macro. This means any fat we recieve, gets stored instead of burned. The carbs are NOT metabolizing into fat, and it is VERY rare that carbohydrates metabolize into fat, unless someone has a metabolic disorder. This process is called Neolipogenesis. It is not biologically advantageous for a simple glucose molecule to be converted into a chain of fatty acids. It expends too much unnecessary energy, and the body will avoid it at all costs. Not all forms of caloric energy behave the same in the body, and not all macros are converted to fat. Carbs are never stored, lest in the form of glycogen in the tissues and liver for a negligible amount of time, is carbohydrate expenditure is too high. Protein also isn't stored, and is ultimately converted to glycogen and can aid in tumor growth in excess. Carbs will never turn into fat. Ever, ever, ever.
@Mrm1985100 Жыл бұрын
I think this is generally true but from what I know if you massively overfeed people with carbs over time they do actually store carbs as fat.
@sally8234 Жыл бұрын
Please provide scientific evidence that carbohydrates NEVER get stored as fat.
@broddr Жыл бұрын
“Never ever” is a little extreme. De novo lipogenesis is slow and wastes about 30% of the input calories during the conversion process. But when dietary fat is low and carbohydrate intake exceeds total energy expenditure, then de novo lipogenesis will occur in liver and adipose tissues. It’s also important to note that fructose and ethanol are lipogenic stimulators.

He said Ancel Keys lived to age 102 but it was 100, he forgot the USDA 10 years ago removed and debunked their ORAC food score database for antioxidants and phytochemicals in foods which mean nothing to the body, and he thinks there is new information on protein. There is nothing new under the sun ECC 1:9, and nothing new in protein information for the human body in over 2500 years. Just ask Confucius who had 12 good food rules 2500 years ago.
