just for some context on why there are indians in fiji - they were brought over by british a couple hundred years ago work on sugarcane plantation after slavery was abolished. they were promised a decent life in fiji but where subjected to long working hours with minimal pay. after their contract for work was finished, they were allowed to go back to india but since they did not make enough to go back they stayed in fiji. fast forward till now and they've become a part of the fijian culture. fiji-hindi is recognised as an official language in fiji as well. they are also quite different to their ancestors back in india too which why there is such a large discourse on their identity

Those street market vendors stay up whole night selling the mangoes. Mangoes is seasonal in the later months of the year and grows mostly in the west of Fiji, Nadi side. Also those mango sellers literally have no place to go for the night. There are relatives but they don't want to burden them because life is expensive in Suva. Hence out of respect also for them those mango sellers decide just put up with the sidewalks of Suva for a couple of nights to sell their mango produce and return to their homes in the west with sales of max $500 Fijian.

Fijians love their rugby soo much that they made a $7 note in celebration of them winning the rugby 7's! I thought it was fake or a novelty but they are actually in circulation... I'm full spewing I didn't get one while I was there!!
@eskay13Күн бұрын
It is a novelty. Firstly, Fiji has never won 🥇🪙 in The Olympics. Secondly, it's only valid in Fiji. It's not recognised as "proper" money. As in you can't convert F$7 back into the currency of your country. I found that out, when I was converting my other cash. PS. Coz bro, I wouldn't convert it, if you gave me $10Grand or $10Million. That's priceless ❤
@ioanekoroivuki54322 сағат бұрын

Love this Fijian series! Your right at 24:50 Fijians have Melonesian ancestry which is afrocentric thats why Fijians, Solomon Islanders, Vanuatuans are black and have the features that you’d see in Africans. Tongans, Samoans, Hawaiians are Polynesians, they have Asian roots thats why sometimes they can have strong Asian features. There’s been plenty of mixing over the past few centuries, between the groups but this is something not many people realise.

Great vlog cuzzi 👍🏾first time watching. Bula, F1j1 here living in Sydney. Loved the excited tones of your commentary of Suva, she defnly has a vibe day or night doesn't she. Edinburgh Drive that you walked down looks great and lush and is one of the major roads in and out of the CBD. In my day, it was more like a winding 'goat track' but lined with planted colourful croton shrubs. I used to walk part of it from the 'shortcut track' opposite the main CWM hospital on top of the ridge whenever i needed to go to that part of the CBD. Like you, i like walking a LOT and do so when im regularly back in Suva and get the similar quizzical looks from the passing traffic. I agree with you that the shop aesthetics (security grills etc) doesn't seem to match the safeness and genuine friendliness of the Fijians, i reckon some of the shops are just over done. I refuse to even walk into a shop thats overly secured with ugly grills, mesh, guards etc even here in Sydney. My white Aussie wife also refuses to walk into those shops and she has gone many times on her own into Suva CBD and has never had any major safety issues but then again shes has had yrs of experience with Fijians 😂 Also loved you trying out the street food cuz as a Fijian who loves middle eastern cuisines. Im also a Major Sydney El Jana (Lebanese) Chicken 😋 fan for decades where back in the day in their original Auburn takeaway, i used to buy cooked dalo/taro from the Fijian/Indian shop down the road in Auburn to also have with my chicken n chips etc in the shop. Anyway, enough of me but will now sub and be looking fwd to more content bro. Vinaka and Thankyou.
