So the Ryder dude pretty much expected you to obsorb at least part of the cost of HIS mistake. Even after you explained to him that you had actually already saved him in the neighborhood of $1200.00 had you done what one would normally do to have a truck like that moved. One would think he would have been thankful that you were so considerate. Instead, he as much as accused you of ripping him off. He probably still has no idea how lucky he is that it was you who was called.

Wasn't even a mistake. He said he got scared off of where he should park because of bears. They also put notes on his car. His story was all over the place. Clearly he is a shyster and used to scamming people. I would have just called the police and had them explain it.

I am astounded by the Ryder Truck renter's continued protests and I shouldn't be. Even when you pointed out how much it could have cost, he still kept going. I would think of charging by the minute, for those who argue, thinking that the employee parking lots are free for tourists. Because they did not see the signs. They always tell us , get out and walk around your vehicle , if not familiar with the area . Safety first. Can save you alot of money in the end. So the guy was staying at one hotel but told you another hotel said he could park there because there were bears at a parking lot somewhere else and the signs did not specifically say the lot was not for people who had been given permission from the Econo lodge and seen bears at another lot. These "Employee Only" signs are just not specific enough about who can't park there.

My last (first) experience with a mammoth tow truck was nearly 3 yrs ago. I got a fully loaded 26’ UHaul stuck across my driveway at my new house and had to get a tow truck from 60+ miles away to pull me back about 8 ft. Although it cost me $780 I was happy to pay, as my bed and mattress were in that truck. UHaul wasn’t any help since none of their contractors would come down my little road, said their trucks wouldn’t fit. I would think $1200 for an actual tow/lift is pretty cheap, especially with the cost of fuel now. And yes, I’ve widened the driveway a bit since.

On the first clip. Theft has be come a very big issue out here in Colorado. Between Kia and hyundai I tow way more then is reasonable. Sundays typically are the worst, I can pick up 2 or 3 just in the morning. Hopefully the epidemic of theft doesn't hit you guys.

One thing for sure, a lot of those cabin/cottage driveways and connecting driveways are not made for some of those low slung vehicles.
