Working for a company out of Washington, I always stay the weekend and bring my backpack instead of suitcase when I travel there. I like traveling the coast with maps and a tidal chart. It’s cool to take rope ladders up and down from the various beaches. Nowhere in the US do you see so many black bears and huge beefy mountain lions. I was sleeping on a state park picnic table in my bivvy when a bear swatted my bear canister off the bench seat. By the time I unzipped I saw it swatting the canister again past my rental. Looked for a while in the dark, but never found it. Looking forward to next. Watch those coastal bears. They bold and crafty.

When I was a kid my family stayed at cape disappointment campground with our Siamese cats in our big canvas tent. We would dig for razor clams every morning. So yum. The Olympic peninsula has so many awesome trails and campgrounds. There are bald eagles all over there and they have their feast on sea birds snd fish. You are smart to stay at the trailer and rest up. I took two days to drive from So Cal to WA and three days on the way back and I was wiped out. You are smart to listen to the body. Thanks for posting your adventures. Have fun up there

Nice. When I lost my job in 2016, the National Parks were promoting their “Find Your Park” campaign and I bought an annual pass, packed my Subaru full of camping gear and left my home, the Sierra. My 1st stop was Lassen and then the Burney and McCloud areas, next was Crater Lake, then zigged to the Oregon coast and zagged to Yellowstone. Other than one portion with my son, I visited 19 National Parks in six months traveling solo in a Subaru. I cherish that time and I have since taken up backpacking, which I love and do often and visited many, many more places. Losing that job was a blessing I could not fully understand until later. Your excursions and traveling inspire me. I often jot notes. Sawtooths are on my next year list and someday I may know what it is like to camp/travel for long periods in an RV vs. a tent. I do know that after driving all day, setting up and tearing down to drive another long day can be exhausting and it usually takes me longer to travel to a further away destination.

We were at Lassen NP on 4/25/2018 and there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground. We walked up the road for quite a ways but the NP Service was still clearing the road up beyond were we walked. We still enjoyed what we could see even with the snow. The dogs certainly played in the snow and this was one of three places on our 52 day tour of the country where my wife used her snow shoes. Yes we brought them with us from Maine. Travel safe, we loved the California and Oregon coasts also on this trip

Love how you can fly by the seat of your pants with a road trip! I did something similar mid September 2020 taking a similar route. I love Manzanita lake as a base camp to explore Lassen National Park! The way you captured the fire damage really changed the landscape of that part of the park from what I remembered just months earlier. With your side trip to Burney Falls it makes me want to hit the road again. Wow! Magnificent! Those falls remind me of Iceland water falls .. . amazing beauty and power! With your trip into the Shasta region and on into Oregon off Hwy 5 really flooded back memories with the heat you mentioned. I attempted to make "a beeline to the coast" but the Oregon fires were too intense, so had to turn around and head for home. So happy you made it to the coast to catch that awesome sunset. I noticed your Starlink internet service . . . Isn't it amazing! I use mine full time where ever I travel and at home. It probably makes your editing experience much more enjoyable and worry free not needing to schedule a trip into town for uploading to your channel. Absolutely awesome!

You were up in my neck of the woods at Lassen. I live about 50 miles from there. Burney falls was the last family camping trip my wife and I were on with her family before I lost her two weeks later in 2007. That place will forever be special to me. Maybe we'll cross paths one day and share stories. Right now I've been traveling a bit between Flagstaff and home to visit with a close friend and attend the overland expo in Flagstaff. Hope to meet you one day. Happy travels 👍🙂

You will need to spend more time in Lassen next time but manzanita lake campgrounds is lovely. Subway cave is nearby on way to burney falls. Those falls are pretty unique cuz much of the water is not spillage but seepage. It’s always glowing and always incredible god it’s delicate beauty. I was just in Shasta. Such a spectacular mountain. Smart to stay at the coast in Oregon during the record heat they’ve been having. I was just up there for three weeks cuz my mom had surgery. My mom lives in the border of Oregon/WA. So much beauty up there. Though it was pretty smoky when I was there. Hope you had less smoke than I did

You can walk up the railroad tracks in Dinsmuir and go to a spectacular falls on the Sacramento. You have to trespass but everybody does it. I'm sure it can be googled. The Cinder Cone near Butte Lake is cool. Also the Caribou Wilderness east of Butte Lake is a special volcanic wonderland. Lassen is often touristy.
