The videos where you casually talk to the viewer as if they're an old friend sharing a beer or a cup of coffee are the best. I don't know if you remember my comment on your other dream video on the lanky grey bois, but they're always a treat. The documentary-style videos go hard too, obviously (Tsavo being one of my favorites), but I always look forward to ones like this as well. I'm glad you decided to do another :) Cheers my main man Bob, another banger video!

I had remembered the story of the lions of Tsavo, but can't remember precisely where. Then the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness" came out. Then I saw Bob's video on it, and became determined to find out the historical truth of it, so purchased a copy of the book it's based on. The lions were only one chapter of his experiences while building that bridge in Africa--just fascinating! I think it's titled something like "The Lions of Tsavo and Other Adventures in Africa" or something to that affect.

I remember having an extremely vivid dream of being a Polish forced-laborer in WWII Germany. In the dream, I was moving some building materials in a wheelbarrow and a Wehrmacht soldier stopped me for questioning. I spoke semi-fluent German to him and understood his responses, even though I don't know any German IRL. I then remember being somehow detached from my body and "flying" through the air to see Benito Mussolini getting executed in Italy. I later got confirmation from my family that my great-grandfather was forcefully transferred to work in Nazi Germany after Poland was invaded.

When I was a kid I had crazy dreams about the future instead of the past. In one, parents with money could have their newborns' teeth (and their whole top and bottom gumlines) cut out and replaced by stainless steel chompers that would never need maintenance, only a series larger size replacements up to adulthood. In another, I lived in a city that was so Socialist even the electricity was generated by the manpower of the people, human hamster wheels, and so you didn't have to pay a bill but you were required to rotate a wheel a certain number of times per month. You could walk or run, take as long as needed. You could pay someone else to do your rotations, and disabled people were exempt. But this one was my favorite: I lived in a future world so polluted the air _hurt to breathe._ I was staggering around and found a terrifying witch-looking old woman seated on the ground with items for sale spread out in front of her. Included were sealed bottles (16 oz. glass like the soda bottles we had at the time, the 80's -I'm Gen X) and they were labeled by year, also years in the 80's. I knew this meant they contained AIR from the 80's. And I wanted one SO bad, but I had no money. In desperation I decided to try to just grab one and run .... but the old lady snatched my wrist and glared into my eyes, and it was so terrifying I woke up ...... to find the air actually painful to breathe, as my house was full of smoke. -My alcoholic mom had started cooking something on the stove, forgot about it and went to bed, so the pan itself was cooking basically and filling the house with noxious smoke. It was so thick you couldn't see your hand at arm's length. I hollered and woke up the whole family and everything was okay, except our poor parakeet died. -Birds' bodies are full of air pockets so that's why they are more affected by poor air quality, like why you take a canary into a coal mine, to let you know it's unsafe before it's too much for human tolerance.

I am so conditioned to reading, that I can not go to sleep without reading. Even as a nurse that sometimes had to pull a 24 hour shift, I would pick up my book as I settled in to bed. Can't tell you how many times I woke up with a book mark stuck to my face. Both my parents read in bed, with me in between them to play with a book, as they read to me, until I finally fell asleep and was carried to my own bed, still clutching my book. It was a blessing beyond words. I began reading at a very young age and books have be my constant companion for more than 5 decades. I take a bookcation every year. One week of me with nothing but a stack of special books I have been saving up for that week. I wake, go to the day's reading spot, usually outside, with a beverage of choice, mostly tea or coffee. I traverse back and forth for food or drink, before sleeping in preparation for the next day of reading. The husband has learned to become self-sufficient for this week, as I don't cook unless I feel like it, clean up only after myself. It is better than a traditional vacation to me. At the end, I am refreshed, energized, and ready to resume normal life. What I've read inspiring me to what to read next. The experience is only made all the better since we moved back to the sticks, easy to slip into the world of words with only the sights and sounds of nature as your reality backdrop.

I love your comment. I hate to admit that I discovered reading after some bad decisions with drugs in my teens. I found myself a guest of the state of New York's prison system with a scary sentence of 3 to life (for selling 10 pain pills). At age 17 (in the 1990s) and being locked in a cage 23 hours a day I remember the porter (aka a trustee, an inmate that's trusted to help the guards with menial tasks) took pity on me and slid a book into my cell. The author was Ted Dekker and it was book 1 of his circle series. I didn't realize until finishing the series that it had many Christian undertones. Anyway I discovered that I could mentally escape my cell while reading. Nearly 30 years later and I still read daily. I've moved into mostly ebooks but I'm guilty of sometimes buying the paper versions of the same book. Sometimes I want to hold the book. Until I suddenly awake when the book hits me in the face at night lol Thanks @GrapeApe2018 for your comment.
@GrapeApe20183 ай бұрын
@@allenrusselljr I am happy that your "escape" turned out to be literal as well figuratively. No need to apologize for a past you can't change. Only thing that matters is that you move beyond it. And I do the same thing, ebook and paper copies of the same books. Although I have returned to mostly physical books, I missed them too. I wish you all the best and many blessings. Reach out if you find yourself wondering what to read next. Have you ever read Anne McCaffery?

It is always oddly comforting to hear about other people who had a strange recurring dream as a child, that they should not have been able to create or understand at that age. I had a particularly powerful one as a toddler that I was on trial. Apparently, I knew about the end of the world but didn't warn anyone in time. I was on trial for the death of humanity. My wife, not a person I ever saw beforehand, was trying to express her upset without voicing it. I left on a "hunt" but I was seriously armed with sword, spear, and knife. I ended up fighting a boar and having it land on me. It pushed my knife handle into my chest. This video is valid and deserves respect. Also, I can't wait to see those 2 videos you're having to do-over. It's almost always painful and demoralizing to lose work, so bless you for not letting it deter you.

I love this video, it represents how my brain works; it's random and I love it, I'm perfectly fine with this kind of video.

I'm a little late to the party and I can't speak for everyone, but I love this type of content from you. It's refreshing and just a relaxing watch. Funny also. I love your other content but one of these types every few months of just a amalgamation of video ideas and such that didn't make it into a video would be awesome. Keep up the good work!

Dude, count me in for these bizzare rants about random topics. You have a profound way of shaking up the typical KZbin experience.

What a great fu¢king video Bob! Seriously, you are incredibly witty and this little window into you, who you are, how you function, what you think and feel about "things" and how (and a little why) you matured into who you are today was really kind of you to share with your fans out here. It's like, I always knew I liked you, your thoughts, your style, humor, insights, etc. Especially because I'm not always in agreement with you, but even then, you at least make me think and I love people, topics, videos and books that make me think...I suppose I wasn't completely certain why I like you and your channel so very much, but now I have better understanding of why.🥰 Thanks!

I love you advocating for reading, the way you broke it down and explained it just clicked something in my head that I was like “whoa”. It was awesome to see your shelf and Jurassic park on it! Reading through the second one now and enjoying it so much and feeling so healthy for reading!! You’re awesome Bob!!

“If you have a special someone or something over, and they’re perplexed to see books in your room, run. Run as fast as you… well… do what you gotta do first then run as fast you can.” 24:31 This is god damn crazy Bob. And I absolutely love it. Made me genuinely chuckle

I've also had an oddly realistic dream when I was younger. I was maybe 15 or 16 when I dreamed about a very graphic encounter in something like a Greek or Roman Pavilion. I remember the courtyard with a square pond in the center. It was night time the moon was high and there were oil lamps that had a greasy aromatic smell, and they cast a warm light in the hallway surrounding the courtyard . There was a very violent encounter and I dreamed of sensations that I have never before or since experienced. I only gained some slight understanding through listening to true crime podcasts, as well as some real life experiences with hunting butchery. I have no idea how my young mind conceived of any of it, because I was unaware of the historical architecture or the biology that I dreamed of at the time. Truly fascinating

I akways grew up watching Bonanza, Gunsmoke, John Wayne movies. But thats not what made me comment. The fact that youve had a reoccurring dream. Ive got 2 or 3 that are similar in so many ways but theyre still different. And in these dreams i always get shot in the head. Like i can feel the hole, the warm blood run down my face. Always putting my hand up to the wound as to feel if its actually there. Im 41, and this "event" has happened more than 40 times id say. And thats a lowball number. Thanks again for the content!

Dude! You need to write a book! You've got that 'dark, subversive, sarcastic, whatever-vibes' that make me cry laughing when I read the hero of our story in that 'first-person, introspective tirade' right before all hell breaks loose. Droll, Dude! I've got to get ready for work - but, I am totally gonna watch this again when I get home, tonight. Thanks for being you, Bob! If there can only be one, I'm glad it's you. 😎🖖
