This song reminds me of my ex and still makes me cry, 7 months later. We both love this album. He was an addict. We met when he was doing pretty well. Months later, things unraveled pretty quickly and after I broke up with him, he overdosed 2 months later. I cried everyday for 3 months straight. Sometimes, this song comes on randomly on my Rammstein Pandora list and I like to think it is him saying hello to me.

@@sparingpickle4918 I understand what you're saying about making everything about drugs, but this entire album is literally about addictions. When I was younger I thought most of it was about sex. Then I grew up and also developed a drug problem of my own and saw it from a different perspective. Clean now. But besides that there are 12 steps in the Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous program, so this is a play on that. The Thirteenth Step. This song, along with The Package, are the absolute most about the subject. What do you think "calm these hands before they snare another pill and drive another nail down another meaty hole. Please release me" means? When I was a teen all I could see was... well you know. But then I unfortunately understood.

Weak and Powerless is about being addicted "Jam another dragon down the hole", "Someone feed the monkey" (Feeding the monkey on your back), "While I dig in search of China White(China white is a common term for extremely pure heroin that got shipped from China), As I approach the bottom (Rock Bottom)" The noose is about how addicts in recovery begin to feel like saints, and the group leader knocking them down a peg by reminding them they can never make amends(An important step in AA) to those they wronged that have already died. Blue is about someone dying of oxygen deprivation, likely about someone who aspirated on their own vomit. The Outsider is a critique of people who are incapable of understanding why people choose self-destructive paths. And this song, Gravity, is about an addict who is finally ready to work toward recovery. "Help me survive the bottom", as in rock bottom. "Calm these hands before they, snare another pill, drive another nail down, another needy hole" Literally about someone asking for help so they can get over their pill addiction. EXACTLY what I wanted to share... ya' got me jerky ! My (court ordered) trip to Sierra Recovery Center in South Lake Tahoe (shut down by rich snobs) was exactly the correction that saved my life from my own self... I chose to live.. and Roy Ricord a native man that ended drowning in Lake Tahoe at the dock at Ski Run pier.. was my guiding light... He gave in to gravity in 8 feet of water. That was a tough pill to swallow.. I loved him way back then, and that will never change.. he had wisdom and kindness.... HE helped me to survive the bottom..

I never knew this until today. What was the original 13th step? Originally the 13th step referred to when, after living a life of sobriety by using the 12 Steps, the alcoholic took the 13th Step to his/her grave. When they were placed in their grave they began their 13th Step. There by living in all eternity a life of sobriety.
