This was so strange to watch. I thought the cats were intentionally trained to fail before I realised that the cats just didn't give a fuck. I laughed my ass off as that cat continued stretching on the floor instead of performing when that suspenseful music played. Really entertaining but I gotta say I felt a little bad for the ladies on stage for having to experience that misfortune.

Plus like you said, unlike many performance animals, these cats aren't beaten into doing tricks for their human masters. Way I see it, these ladies have a much better show going than many traditional circuses with animals.

+Mikhail Kalashnikov Well, they're cats. A cat is only going to do what it wants, regardless. My cat reacts positively to treats, but not in front of an office with a spotlight shining down on him (I assume, anyway; he's scared of new experiences). Dogs, however, are more in-sync with humans. A dog can be trained to do exactly what a person wants because they're so loyal and "mans best friend." A cat can be as loyal as a dog, but only to the limit of a cat. Cats look out for themselves first. Dogs look out for themselves first, too, but consider their people part of themselves. To add clarification: I own a cat. I don't own a dog, but I love them.

I just saw this show last night in Santa Barbara and I must tell you, the entire audience was joyful, entertained, content. I'm still smiling about it. Not only that they rescue cats and put them up for adoption and encourage people to train their feline to a clicker or a whistle in an emergency. Such a delight!

Sorry to see the act on Colbert didn't go as well as it could have--stuff happens. I've seen their live show, and they really are fabulous when the kitties cooperate. They must have been put off by the large audience and bright lights--they usually purrform in smaller venues.

+Petalflipper I don't think it was a joke--This act has been going around the country, and the cats really do perform, although the trainer does preface the performance by saying that sometimes things don't go as planned. Like sometimes a cat will just wander off into the audience and snuggle in someone's lap--happened to me. I am a bit surprised that maybe they couldn't have done a retake, since the show is taped, but maybe there were production time constraints. Then, again maybe, they just decided that the 'purrformance' they got was good enough to go.

I just LOVE that the trainers KNOW they're working with cats, and that cats are gonna do what cats want to do, so they just make it part of the show XD (and it makes it even more impressive when they actually do a trick haha) Also, does anyone know if we can donate to these lovely people? Because punishments don't work on cats like dogs, cats are tricky but they can be trained and only by positive reinforcement, associate the tricks with good things like treats but we have to be patient with them. Cats are intelligent but they have different instincts than the natural packs subservient instinct in dogs the comparison between them is pointless.

ive yet to see any animal performances that punishes to enforce a behavior simply because that doesnt work with animals. rewarding behavior increases it on a better scale. especially since you cant tell a cat what you want it to do so punishment for NOT doing it doesnt make sense

Maybe if he didn't, the cats would have done it? Instead he had to steal the spotlight. And the cars weren't catatonic, they were just cats being cats. In fact, I'm impressed that th got the cats to not just do one or two tricks, but MANY tricks. They got like 6/10 tricks to work, that's already incredible.
