I see two men who are humble enough to ask for help and are practicing the art of learning from a very good representative of Jiu Jitsu , there belt is irrelevant and it's probably there school, why find fault ,Roy Dean is a true gentleman show some respect he would not waste his time on these two guys if they were not honorable people ,keep training .

I always hear black belts saying that their real learning started when they got the black belt. Humility, respect, and self improvement are things we should all aspire to. Big props to these Aikido guys for doing all of the above. And Roy Dean is such a great instructor. Learned so much watching this video. Thank you!

I rarely comment on anything I see. To open your dojo, humble yourself and then post areas you are working on as a martial artist, defines the word humility. I see others address their rank. Rank is based on their discipline and time. What is concerning to me is the arrogance that follows practitioners of any style. It is dominating BJJ at the moment. Most who study find that it is the love of "doing" Martial arts that quiets arrogance. Quietly walk the trail ... don't look at your neighbor and judge him. You are both on the same path. That is what the study of art is about. I respect these two individuals seeking wisdom and "doing" the work that is required to walk this path.

I enjoyed watching Professor Dean cross train the two Aikido instructors. If they incorporate Jujitsu in their training it will explain the ability as martial arts instructors. Roy also is a Aikido instructor as well. He's a true mixed martial artist. I look forward to seeing him explain and promote his skills and experience with other martial artist. Coach AL

This video was great and I am now a big fan.

Fantastic session here. Also important to note that it highlights how deficient aikido alone can be. Always assuming that someone will run circles around your arm means you never learn basic standup throws against some resistance or striking. You need it all in addition to solid basics or understanding of concepts on the ground.

You know what now that I had chance to look at this he might not which I think he is not a bjj black belt. He might be in some type of jj or some other art that just add bits and pieces of bjj to the art because its incomplete. That may explain why he dont have the basics of Gracie bjj.

For that Uchimata, it looks too tight and and the hand placements look wrong to me: I don't like where the left hand is at. Remember Uchimata is a lifting throw. How can you lift him when you are pulling him down?
@killersalmon43596 жыл бұрын
There's a "sloppy" version of Uchimata which is taught which is more of a leg sweep than a lifting throw with the leg being used mainly as a counterbalance. Plus, he's teaching a BJJ seminar here, so some Judo throws need to be modified to work in BJJ since you want to land on the ground on top of your opponent in a position of control more so than in Judo since an ippon doesn't end the fight in BJJ.

You can instantly tell that they trains different discipline just from the gi, much thinner and more similar to a Kenpo Karate gi as opposed to a BJJ or judo gi. Additionally, they clearly did not earn their black belts in a ground art, considering one of them is still exclusively grape vining and the other has no idea how to escape. I’d love to see them show some Aikido to Roy Dean for some just general fun.

The guy at the end has some experience in Jujitsu but clearly not black belt status. In private training BJJ it looks odd to see a black belt learning fundamentals.
@XgamersXdimensions8 жыл бұрын
They're most likely Aikido black belts. I was confused at first too, wondering why black belts couldn't escape Grapevines into a Trap and Roll, and connecting it to an Elbow Escape. Then I saw the aikido background and it was like oooohhhh. Also if you look at their Gis, they are very different from the standard BJJ Gi that you see Roy wearing
@israeliteprince90748 жыл бұрын
XgamersXdimensions I thought so. But what baffled me is not the belts. Its having Bjj experiance. They clearly have it that's why he made the statement that hr always has problems with escaping the grapevine. So he attends training they just decided to where belts from another art. So I was just wandering why didnt they bring the belts they train bjj in. That's all. I just thought it was still quite odd.
@AikidoAgatsu8 жыл бұрын
Actually, we do not train formally in BJJ, so we are wearing our Aikido belts. This lesson was held at the Aikido dojo in Chicago where I hosted professor Dean for a cross-training seminar.
@israeliteprince90748 жыл бұрын
Aikido Agatsu Cross training to add to your formal training of Aikido Hmmmm okay that's better clarified. As a formal trainer I can tell you that you picked one among the best. I'm sure you know that but if you are aiming to retain the information and be able to implemented into your self defense repertoire private lessons or some form of formal training is necessary to remain sharp because Bjj is not a stand still art its constantly evolving. What you may use to day won't be as efficient 5 years from now especially against a formal trainer and you'll be surprised how people that don't formally train learn just by watching KZbin or UFC fights. That's if you want to stay sharp. But to each his own

They're Aikido black belts. I think this video is the result of a seminar that Roy Dean taught at their Aikido class on BJJ, on how to link BJJ and Aikido (there's another video up where he shows how to go from an Aikido throw to a BJJ choke on the ground). Here, it looks like he's just giving them a private lesson on pure BJJ.
