Jordan has done it again with this very professional video presentation of his latest, excellent advice for fellow brewers. Nice touch with the embedded video from James Tunissen of KoMANA Brewing Co. Your research, eg. Proceedings of the Zoological Society, on human toxicity is very interesting. As a mechanical engineer myself, I appreciate the technical content of this video as I do all your presentations. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I don't use antifoam in my brews. I just accept the process as it is and use a blowoff container to help with yeast harvesting.

I'm heading in the same direction... I do have Fermcap AT coming soon but I'm not sure I will always use it... Maybe just enough to thwart a boilover at a few drops like Brulosophy suggests

Fascinating stuff! I don’t use a ton of additives, but I do look at them from time to time as I look to dial in my brewing process. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for watching! I love seeing people returning when I post new stuff. I'm of like mind in that way, I don't use many additives but will always consider them because it's good to have them in the toolbox just in case.

HopAid Anti-foam is also available.

Oh interesting! So this is a hop derived anti foaming agent? From what I'm reading, it looks like this is an antifoam agent intended for cold side only. I'm seriously considering switching to this from silicone-based products including Fermcap AT now... Thanks for the info!

Dang, never thought much about fermcap, just used it for insurance against boilovers, never in the fermenter. Now I will probably just skip it altogether. Thanks for bringing this up.

Glad you found it useful! Others have mentioned more natural products like HopAid which can be used to reduce krausen on the cold side. And, if I need it hot side, Fermcap AT seems to be the way to go.

Nice video. Im a brewer in Europe never heard of fermcap stuff. But i have recently heard about a hop derived anti foaming agent from baarth haas. If my memory is correct

That sounds interesting I'll definitely check it out!

After looking into this, I'm thinking you were talking about HopAid? It appears to be intended mainly for controlling cold side foaming, so I may still need Fermcap AT (the safer version of Fermcap) for boilover protection.
