I owned 2 stores between 89-94 after the baseball strike , I had to close. Loved being in the business. Had purchased a 1914 cracker jack collection. Shoeless Joe , Cobb , had them all. People always ask me why I didn't keep the shoeless Joe , when you own a store and have the bills that come with it, and pay my home bills , you have to flip whatever comes in the store. That was the most fun. Never knowing what would walk in the store, interacting with the kids. We became friends. Played softball together , still run into my previous customers from time to time. They are certainly thanking me now , and I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend everyday with sportscards :) great stuff. Glad I found you.

Who would've predicted the 2020-21 card boom? Your ROI is still pretty awesome. The best baseball card story I ever heard came from my dad. He called it one that got away. He was on leave from the Navy back in '79 and he had $1500 saved up. He had a chance to buy a '53 Topps Baseball set that he described as a labor of love from the collector who put it together. He claimed that every card would grade anywhere from a 6 to an 8 with some 9 and 10 possibilities. The keys were high end as well, especially the Mantle and Mays. The guy offered to sell it to my dad for the $1500 that he had. It was a lot of money back then, heck it's a lot of money for me today! He agonized over parting with his money, and after an hour he walked away from the deal. The next day he called the guy to try to buy it for the offered price, but it was sold already. He said that was one of his biggest regrets in the card world for him.

I held a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle when i was maybe 10 years old. It was ungraded and in one of those ridiculous 3 inch thick screw down holders. I asked a dealer at a big card show if i could hold it and he was like suuuuuuuure and handed it over. I was in shock he let me hold it. He was either really nice or was hoping i might be a trust fund baby. Either way i appreciated it.

These stories never get old and this was a great one Chris! The fact you flipped the 52' Mantle right away was key. Imagine passing on it and while authentic, it comes back from PSA as altered or minimum size requirement. To be able to recoup that much of the investment right away seems like it was a great decision. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more of these in the future!

I love how you include all fees not just the main #'s. I collect diecast and some cards and even less comics, but some. In the hot wheels world every one tells you what they paid or sold for but rarely include the shipping ect.that drives me crazy! You have to include everything even the man hours. So thanks for showing the way it really goes. My favorite picture is of course with the little guy, my daughter just turned 17, and that's REALLY CRAZY! anyway thanks for the knowledge and entertainment.

When you’re a dealer, inventory in inventory out is the name of the game. No way can you hold onto product in the hopes that it appreciates in value. Besides that with the profit you made from the Mantle you can invest into other ventures. Over the past 4-5 years you have probably turned that Mantle profit into gains dozens of times.

As others have said, your channel is a PSA 10. I reached out to you not long ago and need more advice. I'm one of those 62 year olds who downsized from the big house as kids are out. Of course, I found my old collection up in the attic, 68 69 70 71 among others. Mantle, Ryan, Seaver, Orr, Havlicheck, Reggie...you know the guys...All in really good shape (dont we all say that?). So I went on you tube and could not believe what these things were worth, even in not great condition. So I quickly top loaded them all, and continued to watch...your channel is so superior, your down to Earth style and relevant information is so easy to understand. So much appreciated. I am in NY, you are in CA but I only trust your advice. Grade/No Grade, Auction/No auction, Ebay..whats Ebay??? :) What advice do you give to old guys like me who want to sell the whole deal and buy a jersey shore home for me and the kids? I actually bought a Pedro and Ovechkin from a local guy to support the hobby. (Hate both of them but they are/were so damn good). Do you have a Patreon thing to support your channel? YOU SHOULD!. Hope to hear from you again before my wife kills me for having cards all over our downsized home now! (she wont help me sort or topload...what to do Chris!!! HELP! thanks Tony
