All jokes aside, this was actually an impressive survival-suspense thriller. Most people who criticize it can’t imagine what it would be like. It’s easy to make jokes from the safety of modern convenience. Personally, I thought the film did an amazing job of translating the themes and supporting details of the plot. The cast was incredibly good and the suspense was top notch. For a scary movie that had little violence, minimal gore, and even less sound, it was ACTUALLY scary.

I should watch this at some point, I saw a video talking about how nobody wanted to loot potato chips from abandoned stores because of how loud they are and that was when I realized just how dangerous and horrible that world must be. Then I had a dream that put me *into* the world and I have a lot of respect for whoever came up with the movie idea. It's a lot harder to make jokes from safety when your own mind throws you into their shoes.

John always said that this was a love letter to his kids… he really gets that message across in this movie. Watch the sequel and it truly is an amazing movie as well. I don't see how this is a masterpiece. The strange thing is that everyone who overly praises this can't get into detail why this is supposed to be a masterpiece. I'm not bought by some CGI monster. Just because there is some remotely decent CGI doesn't make it scary. Contrary, if it lacks realism then why should I feel scared? The acting was good. But not phenomenal. And as good as it was, good actors can only cover so much for a mediocre script. And the script is where they lost me. There were way too many logical flaws for me to really buy it. They had to dumb down people heavily to make this idea work. And they apparently thought that many viewers would be just as dumb and not realize the flaws.

The main lessons to be learned from this movie to survive the sound hunting monster post apocalypse: Don't have kids. They are loud and invariably stupid and will get each other or you killed. Live deep underground, perhaps in a cave, and at least try some heavy duty doors on your home. Live near a loud waterfall. That should solve any problems with sound travelling. Be sure not to fall in any huge plotholes through sheer stupidity.

When I went to see this movie, like a lot of people, I was expecting a horror movie that would give me some good scares. And while that was true, I was not ready for the emotional impact this family had. How the movie portrays the family protecting each other and the lengths that the parents will go to to protect their children in the horrible enviroment around them really struck a nerve with me. Pause at 0:06 The whiteboard on the right confirms something: The monsters are Blind and are attracted to sound. They don't eat their kill, for some reason. Humanity has not found out their weakness, apparently. The "How many -3- 5" is probably the number of monsters they have seen up close, or maybe the deaths of other people. The newspapers classify the monsters as "death angels" or "dark angels", probably given by their slender bug-like shape and dark-grey color. There might be more easter eggs, but these are all I've come up with. Edit: Okay people, I haven't seen the movie yet. So please don't spoil things for me.
