I think a better term for these automobiles is "Pioneer" vs "veteran" of the Brass era. That Model F is an incredible car, I love the Model 30 which came shortly after this beauty and is a real driver. Driving a 49 Packard is a day at the gym. My older cars are T's but a Model 30 is on my list.

I imagine having situational awareness, is a must when driving a veteran car such as this Packard, just like when I machine dirt roads & cut the pasture with my 1940 Ford 9N tractor.
@AudrainMuseumNetwork
@AudrainMuseumNetwork 28 күн бұрын
That second sentence earned you some brownie points. And you are correct, quite a bit of situational awareness is required... unless your goal is to emulate your tractor and end up in the pasture.

This is great to see! There used to be a single cylinder Cadillac in S. Pasadena that would go out for an occasional drive through town. Pop, pop, pop... I love the real early cars, horseless carriages, and the solutions that they came up with. I have a great book, "Carriages Without Horses" by R. Scharchburg which chronicles the story of the Duryea brothers and all the challenges they had in building their car. No carburetors available from suppliers until Dave Holley came up with one. And the story of how they attended the Worlds Fair to see the new Benz car that featured spindle steering for 4 wheels after his earlier 3 wheelers. Benz found an old patent that Charles Darwin's father had invented to make turning easier for horses necks. Benz was so happy with that development that he called the new model Victoria. A great read that I recommend to all.

Hey Donald, how about taking a couple of minutes and showing us around the car please? Let's see the engine and underhood. Is it chain or gear drive, how many speeds? Please show the controls and dashboard. They would be unique and fascinating on this nearly one of a kind vehicle. If this were a Camaro or Porsche we would have seen all this a hundred times before, but this is a rare opportunity. Thank you for taking us along on the ride though, it's fascinating as always to hear your Impressions and opinions. I love this channel, keep up the fine work.

@jamesmisener3006 , my bar my hand was on is not the brake, but the clutch lever. You can control the speed of the car by how much gear you engage. On the narrow, heavily crowned road I was on, it was useful to have as much throttle control as possible! Thanks for watching!

These veterans brass cars certainly are living history and worthy the time for any car enthusiast. Experienced Sears, Brush, Maxwell, Buick, Franklin, Ford, Olds, Knox, Cadillac. Also recommend in the US, the New London to New Brighton antique car run in Minnesota. Good single day challenge for these cars. This year 2024 event date August 10.
