Nice job, nice bike 🙂 Interesting to hear the rationale behind the decisions too.

Thanks for the spray code of the blue. Humbers are such a handsome bicycle.

Another good bike back on the road it's a good idea to use other bits so you can keep using your bike as your main transport

Nice bicycle! I've been given a Sun with a step through frame. It cleaned up nicely and rides really well. I was going to sell it, but it's such a lovely looking bike that I might keep it in the collection. Another great video!

Glad to see its living on and will do someone sterling service. Id have kept the gel saddle but then im a sucker for soft squidgy seats.

I love your channel so much especially when you have roadster bicycle on. I only ride rod brake bicycle and I am 25.

That blue is gorgeous. I think it’s wonderful that a bike like this can be given new life, even if it means losing some originality. I hope you don’t mind me asking, Rowan, for some advice or tips! I have a similar step-through NA-market Sports, in the bronze green paint. It’s proving difficult to match, unfortunately; I‘ve acquired a closed chain case that needs to be cleaned up and painted to match. There’s also a small hole rusted through on the back of the chain case, and I’m guessing, once the rust has been treated, that a metal patch would last longer than a layer of auto body filler. 😅 I don’t know any welders, unfortunately. Also, what’s the best way to determine frame size on one of these old three speeds? Thanks!

@@Velocipedium I suppose until you ban them for pointing out raleigh of holland never imported dynohubs because they don't meet regulations. Heaven forbid a dutch bike shop puts their sticker on a bike someone brought from england when it comes in as a part exchange. I suppose mine having three different bike shop stickers on must mean selling it new was a collaborative effort

In general I understand the point that it is only original once but at times originality can cause problems like obscure wheel sizes that you can not get tyres for or like in this case brakes that are impossible to get new cables for
@Velocipedium Жыл бұрын
Exactly. It’s not going to be a collector’s showpiece, it’s going to be ridden by someone who just likes this kind of thing but isn’t a bike enthusiast. Now the bike can be serviced at John’s shop with off the shelf parts.

Hi Velocipedium! I've just picked up a Raleigh Courier for £20 and I'm brand new to 3 speeds, so your channel has been an excellent resource over the past few days. I've got a couple questions to ask if you wouldn't mind filling me in: 1. the bike has a rear dynamo that runs along the tyre, is it possible to disengage this/move it away from the tyre when I don't want to use it? 2. I bought some new Michelin world tour tyres (which cost me more than the bloody bike) but after ordering noticed they don't have the sort of dynamo track going down the side of the tyre, will the dynamo still work when running along side these? Cheers!
@Velocipedium Жыл бұрын
You should be able to simply tilt the top of the dynamo away from the tyre, and it should click into place there. It it won’t, there’s probably a broken spring. A Wirld Tour should drive a dynamo no problem. If you are on Facebook I strongly recommend joining the Raleigh Roadster Club group. That’s where all the expertise hangs out!

How often should you disassemble a 3 speed hub and thoroughly clean and lube it? Also if it seems decent, but just want to add some oil, what kind and how much? Thanks.
@johnsmithers284 Жыл бұрын
The oil is the lube. You aren't using chain lube inside the hub are you?
@tonythetourist2025 Жыл бұрын
@@johnsmithers284Thanks for the reply but your answer does not make any sense to me. What oil are you talking about? Brand or type? No I am not using chain lube. I was thinking a transmission oil since there are gears.
@Velocipedium Жыл бұрын
Don’t dismantle unless something is wrong and needs fixing ( hardly ever). Add a teaspoon of light non-gumming oil every few months. Many people use a heavier 30 grade oil to good effect but the factory oil was a light machine oil.

I use 85W140 but have to heat it up with a hot air station ~200^C so it flows better. Also i use a syringe with a thick niddle used to fill the inkjet printers.
@johnsmithers284 Жыл бұрын
@@isbemorph probably too thick. I would use 10W oil
