It happens with most sitcoms and I hate it. The first couple seasons there are actual side characters but by the 6th season its JUST the small group of main characters.

to be fair all the associates bailed after Mike's arrest so they had to get new ones, which is how we get characters like Brian Altman.

It was a much better show when it felt like a working law firm and they actually WORKED on the case. Later seasons it really just followed a couple characters the whole day running errands and then the magical file folder shows up at the end that has the perfect thing to win any case.

In all fairness, that's how corporate world works. I started a grad scheme with 12 other people. We are mid in the 3rd Yr and there are only 5 left. 2 got fired, 1 changed career path, 3 went back home to live closer to family and 2 went on to other companies. Now the day to day in the office feels very narrow viewed. Truth with corporate world is only the people who are the Partners or Management favourite stay on.
