fordgt402 Problem is, humans are hardwired to worry about what other people think of us. In primitive times, if members of the tribe didn’t like us we could be shunned and would die. We needed their approval in order to remain within the tribe and have the protection of being part of a group. So we worry about those who appear to dislike us, as we fear the negative consequences of their dislike.

Icarus isn't real, it's a myth taught everywhere in the world through time. You are not a famous myth, not at least a myth, you are real. School of life spoke about the paint. Remember last time someone felt in the street near you ? no, because you are focused on where you want to go, your phone, what you want to do, what your friend said. Even you saw someone fall in front of you, you would not care of it or just 3s and forget him. Just do whatever you want because people in general dont care and will forget you with time.

In my early 30's I went to nice restaurants by myself without anything to read or do. I'd ask the maitre for a table for one, read the menu and basically just sit there waiting for food. Enjoy my meal, pay and leave. I did this because I liked eating in nice restaurants and wanted to enjoy the experience without having to find someone enjoyable to go with. But I learned a lot more. The world didn't end. As I looked around at other tables I noticed no one cared. I just had to get pass the waiters asking "Are you waiting for someone?" They didn't care. They just wanted to know when to proceed. And if anyone did care why should that matter to me? It was one of the most uncomfortable things I ever did but ended up improving my life more than I would have thought. It was years before I even realized how that experience had changed me. I'd go back to it as proof to me that others don't really care that much about others...not in a negative way. People help others when needed, but they don't obsess on every detail of other peoples lives. They may make a comment but a minute or two later they forget they even made the comment. I'm 63 now. What a wonderful life I'm having. The internet wasn't around when I was young. I wonder if I'd had all this good info like this video if I would have believed it? Probably not. You HAVE to go ahead and do what you believe will ultimately make you confident enough to do what will make your life better. I was EXACTLY like this, though in only 22. You are no doubt more experienced than me in many ways, but the truth is I said exactly what you said at the end of high school when I felt I hadn't done enough, and that I was the same old sack of shit. I said it was too late but off to college I went. Nothing changed for a long time until I hit rock bottom and stopped caring about myself altogether. Once I didn't care I couldn't take it anymore, I ran outside and tried to be what I wanted to, only a few months ago. I found that even if you don't fit with your identity initially, you'll grow into it as you become more confident, and it'll be natural. Be yourself, but be the best version you can make. The fact is that however late it is now, you will have wished you'd done better the last time you decided it was to late to do whatever you wanted. If you don't get better now at 31, you will ask yourself why you sat idly by when you turn 41. If you say it's too late now, you will regret this inaction in a few years, and the cycle will repeat. I understand the stigma of being 30, but youre still plenty young to evolve.

I used to be people pleaser. My family (not all) is very critical of me, they'll get mad at me whenever I made a slight mistake. This caused me to be a people pleaser. I kept thinking about how people judge me, I tried to be the person everyone like, I tried to follow what other people say in order to be liked. The result? It made me unhappy and instead of getting liked by everyone, alot of people were disappointed when they know my real self and started to distance themselves from me, instead of a friend, people sees me as someone who will do what they say, a slave. After I graduated from middle school (the education system in my country have 3 years of middle school then followed by 3 years of high school), I moved to another city and decided to cut ties with my toxic family members. I stopped being a people pleaser. Now I have a group of friends that actually like me for who I am, not because I'm nice and will do anything they say. I often still help people like I used to do before as a people pleaser but I learned to say no sometimes. I've never been this happy before. Sure, some people dislike me but there's always someone who dislike you and compared to the amount of people who dislike me when I was a people pleaser with now, the amount of people who dislikes me now is way lesser than before. And for other people pleaser who read this, don't be afraid to be yourself. I know that opening yourself is scary and challenging so take it little by little. You don't have to change in an instant, just change yourself in your own pace. You can do it! ❤

First of all, thanks for sharing your story, I really can relate with this. Secondly, my English is not very good, in case you see any grammatical error. Now, I'm trying little by little to show my family and friends who I am. 🙌🏾👏🏾❤

So true. And most people don't even care enough about you to invest necessary amount of time and effort to make a judgement that is even close to the truth. Right now people's opinions about me can be divided to completely contadictive opposites and I'm still the same person with pretty well developed personality. Later on those opinions will even furteher radicalize, living me with absolutely no control over it. Trying to appeal to others expectations and hoping to achive certain opinion is pointless. That would involve expecting them to treat you fairly.

Exactly, I believe in order for us to truly and utterly be introspective within ourselves we must stop trying to live up to others and live by our own creed. This is hard to be accepted by many because of being ridiculed or being outcasted. We have all struggled with this. From my perspective when I was growing up(More common now) being a metalhead at an all-black school and even being poor effected my mentality as I was expected to wear and be a certain way because of my environment. That fear of being"the black sheep" looms over many. The few of us who can step outside understand the importance of not only caring less about others opinions of us, but that our own pursuit of happiness is the most vital.

But try to think of a time where you saw somebody else do something so inexplicably embarrassing. You probably have seen it, but you almost definitely don't remember it and if you do, you RARELY think of it. I myself can't recall any instance. Hazelnut ice cream I don’t think it’s any of our business what others think about us because if we think too much about it that can cause us anxiety and stress there will always be people who dislike us and we just have to accept that we can prove them wrong or we can just move on and not care essentially
@Kaia64855 жыл бұрын
@@katenka_ana3997 This quote is in reference to living your truth. There is only one of you and you are on your own personal journey in life. If you make decisions based on what other people might think or want, you'll never fulfill your true destiny. Now when it comes to your job, spouse, family and best friends, of course you have to take their thoughts and feelings into consideration if you want to keep your job and having meaningful relationships. But at the end of the day, it's still your choice. It's like the quote, " A lion doesn't concern itself with the thoughts of the sheep." If an animal cared about the feelings of its prey, it would soon starve and die. It has to be its true self to live. Ever wonder why so many humans have starving souls? They care too much what others think.
@ladyartemis32325 жыл бұрын
I kinda disagree because the truth is, other people shape our identity. What others say still affect our mental, emotional, and social being. Like, when we post something on Instagram, don't you think we only post those that make us look good? We adapt to society. And part of that adaptation is to learn what others around you does and doesn't do. And if we commit a mistake, other's judge us as someone who didn't live up to the expectations of society. Then we'll feel bad. Thus, we do anything to make us seem normal and to 'belong'. We didn't became who we are without them. Admit it or not, we rely on others' opinion about us to build our self-concept.

Let's make something clear. There is a reason why all of us, I repeat, all of us care about what others think. Allow me to use the example of clothes. Why do we even wear them when we go out? If we truly didn't care about what others thought of us, why would we wear clothes? Sure, you can argue that we would get into trouble with the law if we did that, but nobody would say that the reason they wear clothes in public is to make sure they don't get arrested. Now, imagine a scenario involving a million dollar business deal. Two people who turn up include a fine gentleman dressed like a million bucks and another person wearing a beanie, a tank top, cargo shorts and of course, socks with sandals. Who earns more respect, and gets a better name and image? Obviously the first man. What this means is that caring about what others think is a hardwired way for us to improve upon ourselves. But the key is moderation. Too much and it becomes like a bloodsucking leech. Too less, and you don't stand a chance against life. So an imbalance, as you can see creates the opposite effect of what nature seems to have intended. If you have ever met people who claim that they truly care absolutely nothing about what others think, they are bloody liars😂. Either they have a terrible present which they seem to be happy with, they want to give you wrong information to drag you down, or there is something quite wrong. At the same time, don't ever let other's judgements brijg you down and keep you from enjoying the gift of life. If that's what the person meant, then great. Now, when it comes to people who want to criticize about certain aspirations of yours, take my advice. Listen to them. Not blindly, but observantly. You never know what sort of priceless information they might give you. You always have the option to ignore them if they only talk nonsense. But please don't give up anything awesome you had dreamt of just because some other person thought it wasn't good or whatnot. So, have a great day, and I hope this may have helped someone in confusion. Don't forget, moderation is key.

We are the centre of our own universes, everyone else is too wrapped up in their own lives. I suppose it's about the need for acceptance from others which leads us to worry so much

Another way to see it is that why worry what people think, when those certain people could care less about you?

You don't need to disregard your feelings. Any feeling that is shared in a calm and civilized manner will bring relief to the individual and an increase in goodwill for the group, including fear and anger.

If there is one thing I learned on this planet, is that there is a meaning to life. The meaning is to foster a healthy relationship with ourselves. I had a lot of self hate for 15 years of my life. I was afraid of loving myself. Looking back now I can't believe how silly that fear was. But that's the thing with fear: we always imagine it being worse than it actually is. Self-love starts by listening to your gut feeling, intuitions, and feelings. Reuniting with myself was the moment I realized, that only I will be there at the end. No one else can join you on the journey to death. Your higher self will be there to guide you on that final journey. There is no amount of money or material possessions in this world that will ever make me feel as I felt that day I found myself. Some might call that a 'God' moment. For me that was the moment I became whole.

Whenever I feel nervous before a presentation, I always say to myself that noone would remember it anyway.
