Can you explain this to me. I used the carnivore diet as an elimination diet, never intended on doing it long term. Why is it that my bowel movements while following the diet were more regular and with less issue, but not that I follow a well balanced diet with more fiber than the minimum recommended, it is very difficult to defecate? While following an all meat diet, no issue. Recommended diet as per the AHA, big issue.
@wesleygaitan
@wesleygaitan 2 жыл бұрын
Depends what foods you can tolerate. And also the carnivore diet made my bowels too dry and hard so I lowered the protein by a ton and up the fats alot and my bowels is perfect now. But the issue with carnivore? Insomia and increased heart rate so I eat low carbs now and my energy is perfect and sleep. I get around at least 200g carbs a day.

Couple of points: People always push back against carnivore diet by saying ‘yes of course plants can be bad for some people, some times etc’ but fail to address the core concept of the carnivore diet i.e. that while most people can eat most plants and not have too much trouble, everyone would be healthier if they ate more meat and much less ultra-processed plant based carbohydrates. Many people try to debunk the hypothesis that a carnivore diet is how humans evolved to eat, claiming that hunter gatherer populations would eat whatever was available. This is true, but we also know that human populations survived for millennia on a meat only diet, while no population could survive without meat.

That certainly makes up a large portion of the diet yes, but I do also believe the human body has evolved ((or been degisned, depending on how you view it)) to thrive consuming animals, over plants. Don't get me wrong, we're definitely capable of consuming veg/fruit, but we've not evolved ((or been designed)) to have veg/plants be our main nutrient source, meat first, then second, then maybe fruit third, and as a last resort starvation mode, veggies.

I am off anti depressants, Blood pressure med and anxiety meds & sleep amazing! I wish I had heard of this way of eating it’s so easy for me who has been severely obese since I was in Elementary School & tried eating low carb but I would binge on low carb processed crap & sugar cravings never went away. First time ever I don’t think of food all day everyday. I literally thought about food Alllllll day and night! This is the best decision I have made! I am also no borderline longer T2 in just 3 full months🙌🏻 I might add veggies here and there in the future but eating meat is really not boring at all & haven’t once gotten bored. @PrecisionNutritionYoutube
@PrecisionNutritionYoutube 2 жыл бұрын
Anthropological data and observations of other cultures have certainly impacted our understanding of how varied human nutritional needs can be. We should also remember, with any observational data set, that the main study focus should not be used to draw conclusions in isolation of other factors that likely impact overall outcomes. Daily activity, genetic homogeneity, and observational methods are all areas that need to be considered when applying this data to other more modern populations. And as always, at PN we're big fans of small scale self-experimentation, as long as safety is being considered and medical clearance has been given, we'd encourage folks to try things and draw their own conclusions.

Glucose and vit c are closely related and have the same molecular structure. They compete for glucose transporters in the cell membrane and are escorted into the cells by insulin. We now know that too much glucose not only inhibits the transport of vit c into cells, but it also inhibits the stimulation of other processes important to the immune system. In short, the more carbs you eat, the more vit c is needed to overcome the inhibition by glucose. In reality, all we really need is a measly 10 mg of vit c a day to prevent scurvy and other negative effects. But that is if you are not eating glucose. So on carnivore, you get the little vit c that you need from beef. That’s all we really need. No scurvy. 😂😂

Seems like you contradict yourself in this video. You say carnivore diet works for so many people because they're restricting their diet and avoiding certain vegetables that their sensitive too. If we were meant to eat these certain vegetables, why would we still have sensitivities to them and why would our ancestors eat them if it made them feel bad? Meat is our main food source and these vegetables were just a temporary means to stay alive before the next hunt. Do you think ancient people ate beans and leafy vegetables when they had meat around? I doubt it. Think of it as this. Technically, certain tree bark can be eaten and provide nourishment in a desperate survival situation, so should we all include tree bark in our diet? No, because we have access to meat/organs, so there's no need for supplementary foods. You have to remember, plants don't want to be eaten either and their form of defense is being toxic upon ingestion. We can eat meat raw, given that it's fresh, with no ill effect. Can't say the same for a majority of plants. If you need to go out of your way to pick them at a certain time, then cook them to destroy the toxins and make it edible, it is not meant to be eaten.
@lil-al
@lil-al 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. And how many modern fruits and vegetables did our ancestors have access to? Zero. Almost all plant matter available to us today has been engineered over the years to look nice, taste sweet, be easy to grow, or transport well. Why does every dietitian say we need fiber? This never made sense to me. Akkermansia, the healthy gut bacteria thrives in a meat based gut. Bacteria produces butyrate, ok so does your liver as a byproduct of fat oxidation with beta hydroxybutyrate. Eat fiber to “bulk” up your stool? Why the heck would you want to make it bigger? Oh yes, fiber scrapes the colon like a brush to clean it. Sounds pretty abrasive and inflammatory to me. It just makes no sense at all in my puny little brain.

Lets go ahead and debunk some claims about lacking nutrients. Vitamin C competes for the same transport receptors in your body as carbs. Being animal based usually eliminates most carbs, so your need for vitamin C go way down. This is why carnivores usually never get scurvy, and mostly have healthy vitamin C (water soluble) levels. Vitamin K1 is not an issue because the carnivore diet is extremely high in vitamin K2, and thus the body has the natural capacity to convert vitamin K2 into k1. This body cultivated vitamin k1 is therefore also more bio available then vitamin k1 from plant sources. 3rd, there are no meaningful research suggesting that phytonutrients play any actual long term age benefit in the human body. And last but not least, calcium. There are plenty of animal foods that have an EXCELLENT source of calcium, namely; pastured egg shells. 1 half a teaspoon contains 90% of your RDI of calcium carbonate. You can also get plenty of calcium from animal bone and bone marrow. Not a problem as these can definitely be included in an animal based or carnivore diet. Our ancestors made sure they ate nose to tail. Your welcome, and I hope my knowledge can assist whoever sees this comment! OOOOH, and guess what, meat not having phytonutrients is actually incorrect. Ruminants actually obtain phytonutrients in their fatty tissues as they graze on plants with polythenols. So yes meat, notably beef has just as much if not more concentration of phytonutrients than plants kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6PQpH6oZ56cm9U

I am tremendously disappointed that he doesn't talk about insulin and its fat storing mechanism and how it's barely triggered by the carnivore diet. I am also disappointed that the recommendation for seeking the advice of a healthcare provider didn't include a caveat to avoid a healthcare provider who only believes in the healthcare dogma he or she learned in school. I am glad he concluded with finding a diet or approach that feels good for us. This is good advice and is encouraging for us to take responsibility for our own health. We are all different and react differently to different foods. Some people are allergic to nuts and some aren't. Why should we assume only one way of eating is good for all?

Take doctor ken d. barry For instance!!! The first huge chunk of his life he had Debilitating hartburn that Did not respond to ANY medicine That existed, At least at the time... Then he eventually tried keto And the diet made it According to him, about 70% better But it was still there... So he then tried carnivore because he had heard about it And what he'd been prescribing wasn't helping people so he wanted to do a one month trial And see how it went... His heart burn his now completely gone!!! He then got a dna test to figure out what was going on... I think he said 23 and me but i'm not Entirely certain. Either 98% or 99% of his dna I forget which one he said But it was one of the 2 numbers, Is from so far up North That's 9 to 10 months out of the year plants don't grow there it's too cold. His body just doesn't know how to process ANY plants...

"Researchers have discovered that despite meat-heavy diets, low levels of good cholesterol and high levels of inflammation, an indigenous South American tribe has the healthiest hearts ever examined - and it might have something to do with parasites in the gut. “It’s kind of an exciting paper,” said Ben Trumble, co-director of the study and an assistant professor in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University and affiliated faculty in the Center for Evolution and Medicine, “because for a long time we thought pre-industrial groups had lower levels of heart disease. The Tsimane have the lowest levels of plaque in their coronary arteries that we’ve ever seen.” An 80-year-old Tsimane has heart arteries equal to a 50-year-old American, scientists discovered." Source is ASU (Arizona State University). "The Inuit of the Canadian Arctic thrived on fish, seal, walrus and whale meat. The Chukotka of the Russian Arctic lived on caribou meat, marine animals and fish. The Masai, Samburu, and Rendille warriors of East Africa survived on diets consisting primarily of milk and meat. The steppe nomads of Mongolia ate mostly meat and dairy products. The Sioux of South Dakota enjoyed a diet of buffalo meat. "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" Absolutely. I went through all that with keto, which I did around 80% carnivore. My doctor, my family, friends, EVERYONE thought I'd lost it and was a poor ignorant fool for falling for "fad diets". My cousin, a biochemist working in research, told me I'd get really sick on it and that it wasn't natural...as he polished off his 3rd dessert lol When I went to my doctor to get bloodwork done, I swear he actually looked disappointed and ANNOYED because my blood test results were, in his words, "Perfect". He had told me months earlier that I'd stress my liver and kidneys and that it could be dangerous......"Perfect". After giving me the good news, he advised me to add carbs back into my diet. I asked him "why?" and "based on what?", his response: "It just can't be good for you." LOL It was really a wake up call for me. There's a lot "experts" and so-called scientifically minded people out there that are more concerned about feeling "right" than actually paying attention to research. I was astounded by their lack of awareness, information, and curiosity around keto related studies. I could even mention studies and my cousin, doctor, and others just looked annoyed, as if some pleb like me couldn't possibly be trusted to understand research...the very thing I did in university to get my B.S. in Psychology. Really eye-opening how ego-driven and willfully ignorant many doctors and scientists are. It was like they took my diet (and its success) as a personal offense to their intelligence. Unfortunately, I eventually gave in to the pressure. The better I was doing, the more annoyed people seemed to become. I folded. I was tired of people thinking I was a crazy health nut who always had to bring their own food places or eat very selective things at restaurants and dinner parties. I'd originally started keto out of desperation. I had almost everything wrong with me you can think of. Doctors were no help and apathetic to my misery because they didn't know what was wrong. Their solution was for me to keep coming back to tell them how bad I felt before being told to come back and tell them a gain in a couple months. Then, I stumbled across keto and after months of research, decided to take the plunge. Here I am now, after 2 years being off keto/carnivore, feeling sick as hell, bloated, constant GI issues, depressed, brain fog, sleep apnea, terrible skin, fat, and tired. I'm going to give it another go, starting with carnivore before adding new things into the mix. I KNOW how it makes me feel. I have the test results to prove it's safe. I'm tired of trying to ignore the facts and my own lived experience just so I won't be gaslit and thought of as weird by the other people in my life. Misery loves company. Most of the people that were "concerned" for me aren't exactly paragons of health. I swear, some of them just felt self-conscious and judged for constantly being "hangry" and consuming sugary garbage.

Hey there, Ziggy. Brian is correct in that we lack long term data on this newest iteration of the carnivore/ketogenic diet, and this lack of data should be a cause for concern for any evidence-based professional recommending this dietary pattern. What we do know is that there is data on higher animal product intakes and the data may suggestion some correlational relationship exists between high levels of animal product intake and elevated risk of mortality. This is by no means definitive, but to not highlight this risk is negligent and would do our community a disservice to not represent this topic with as much clarity as possible.

@@PrecisionNutritionKZbin Thanks for straw manning me. We can disagree about whether or not we have long term data regarding the carnivore/ketogenic diet (human evolution is plenty of evidence for me), but you left out an important part of what he said. He didn't just say that the diet hasn't been studied long term. He also said that if you follow it long term you are at risk. For what? He did not specify, but he said you will be at risk if you follow the diet long term. Then he proceeds to explain how animal foods lack certain antioxidants, vitamin C, K1 and calcium. First of all, it is important to know that the same vitamin requirements for a glycolytic diet are not the same on a ketogenic, carnivore or low carb diet. And secondly, his statement is false with the exception of vitamin K1 (which also needs to be studied more). Liver contains a high quantity of vitamin C and grass fed dairy contains K2 and calcium. To what I was saying about different requirements on different metabolism- you need very little vitamin C on a carnivore diet because carbs and vitamin C compete for the same pathways of absorption. www.insulean.co.uk/ascorbic-acid-glucose/ So when you eat carbs, your need for vitamin C is drastically increased. And contrary to popular belief, meat actually does contain vitamin C. All animals make it inside of their tissues except humans and two other mammals. As for K1 (the type of vitamin K found in plants) is only absorbed at a rate of around 10% so you aren't getting very much of it, even if you eat plants. However, vitamin K2 (found in animals) is easily absorbed. K2 does the same work as K1, with the partial exception of blood clotting. However, K1 deficiencies are immediately present and are related to bruising/blood clotting. I've known and seen many people who have gone carnivore for quite some time (5+ years) and they have presented no signs of bruising or bleeding easily or having issues with clotting. Now this is an anecdote so it does need to be studied more. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK222299/ -"Because of the lack of data to estimate an average requirement, an Adequate Intake (AI) is set based on representative dietary intake data from healthy individuals" so under the context of a carnivore diet, vitamin K1 clearly needs to be looked at. You can make the argument that this diet needs to be studied more (although human evolution has already given us this data), but you can't factually state that there are health risks from this diet right after stating that this diet hasn't been studied. You can't have it both ways. You then go on to state that "There is data on higher animal product intakes and the data may suggest some correlational relationship exists between high levels of animal product intake and elevated risk of mortality." But this data was from research done on people eating carbohydrate intense diets. So you can't isolate for animal products when they're being eaten with carbs. Eating a wild animal with no carbs vs eating hamburgers, corn dogs and chicken nuggets are completely different. You can't just lump those in the same category. Most Americans that have heart conditions or are obese/diabetic eat a lot of carbs and they also eat a lot of meat. But none of the research you're talking about has separated these macro nutrients so we can't tell if it's a causal relationship. In other words, you can't make claims about the carnivore diet with research that's based off of the standard American diet

The issue is the data that currently exists leading to the theory of animal protein being bad for heart health etc is purely cohort. All epidemiological, and fails to acknowledge weather subjects smoked, consumed sugar along with meat, etc. There's zero solid evidence that meat is bad, and there's a huge difference between grass fed Grech meat and ultra processed junk meat. Most studies don't differentiate. And a questionnaire followed by years of checking in is laughable. So people just assume it's bad until proven good.

What about people who haven been on carnivore for over 10 years? I have never heard of anyone who did carnivore for some time and then wanted to go back to eating carbs…. I’m not sure about this whole “ancestral eating “ thing they preach, so I do agree with you here. I also believe that plants were given to us as food “by design”, but I am a new carnivore and I tend to go as long as I can. I have a history of eating disorder and I am addicted to all things sweet (have been off sugar and processed carbs for years), even if it’s just stevia. My brain just craves sweet every day. So I really want to break from that addiction and not have food be the center of my life. Keto did not do that for me, I am hoping carnivore will.

Hope you found success with your carnivore diet. The thing with vegetables, fruits, and carbs is that it's not meant to be eaten every single day. We as humans crave meat and organs of other animals as our main source of nutrition. Plants only came into play during desperate times in between hunts in order to stay alive and have some sort of energy. Back then, it was probably a very rare sweet treat to find a ripe apple or orange. Remember, plants don't want to be eaten either and were not put on this earth for the sole purpose of being eaten. Their form of defense is being toxic. Which can range from indigestion to straight up death. For example, cashews are very poisonous if not picked at the right time or roasted to remove the toxin. And if you do go with this carnivore diet, don't eat 3 meals a day. Don't be afraid to skip breakfast. The whole 3 meal a day thing is a societal construct. Which is why obesity is so rampant. I think you'll find if you eat only when you're truly hungry and eat animal product, you can go much longer in between meals and require much less food to feel satisfied. Also, ignore the whole fiber thing. Fiber is only needed for people that pack their stomachs with junk 3 times a day and wonder why they have indigestion and slow metabolism. We are not meant to process that much food per day, every day. Good luck!

@@DontDefuse yeah, so true!!!! The whole fiber thing is just so you take a giant poop 😂😂😂 On carnivore, we absorb so much more from the food we eat, that we don’t need to eliminate every single day. If you go unto a KZbin video promoting a vegetarian diet, you'll find the same very positive experiences of going vegan by many more people. How does humans surviving as carnivores for most of human history have to do with its health? People ate whatever was available and high in calories through most of history. The micronutrients didn't matter nearly as much as not starving to death. Which was, by the way, one of the main causes of death in prehistoric times. Prehistoric humans regularly starved. Hmmm, an interested use of the term "cheat days" especially when referencing foods that are generally thought of as healthy by most folks. At PN, we consider ourselves "dietary agnostics" and from what we've seen labelling foods as "good" or "bad" hasn't really helped anyone make better choices or lead healthier lives. Of course, if these foods make you feel bad or cause some sort of intolerance or allergic reaction then certainly avoid them, but if they do not, on what grounds would we want to limit them from a healthy diet?

@@PrecisionNutritionKZbin Some toxins manifest themselves decades later instead of instantly as in an allergic reaction. Some even believe that they may affect your DNA leading to problems with your children or even their children. It's not too much of a stretch to believe that a seemingly simple, but actually complex plant compound can adversely effect things out of out understanding way down the line. I looked at it like if I were to eliminate absolutely everything that COULD affect me then what would I be safely left with. I found out that in red meat (in the context of cutting out everything else) there is ever single ESSENTIAL nutrient that the human body needs. Essential meaning if we do not consume it exogenously then we will suffer from malnutrition. There is no other plant food in the world that had all of these. And, on the contrary may have compounds that restrict the body from absorbing what little nutrients is there anyways. A good clinical study to look at is the one about zinc absorption from oysters when eaten with/without legumes or corn chips. There has only been 1 clinical study on fiber in the human diet and it states that nearly 100% of all the participants had their complications inprove with 0 fiber. That's it in all the history. Nutritionally there is not evidence for or against long term carnivore diets. So, as of yet I don't think it's quite right to confirm or deny any of the mainstream concerns. Looking forward to your honest opinion on this discussion.

Long term usually means 7 years or more.
@PrecisionNutritionYoutube
@PrecisionNutritionYoutube 3 жыл бұрын
Solid question! There is no one scientifically accepted definition of "long-term" and it likely varies from field to field. In geology or astronomy, observational data can be collected that reflects data from a few decades to a few million years. In health related fields, a study usually qualifies as long term if it covers multiple years, and longer periods of observation (along with more direct measurement, and detailed follow up) will carry more weight when helping to generate consensus within the research community. Science and scientific consensus is never a closed case, as the evidence evolves over time. That being said, with the carnivore diet, or any new diet trend, we look at the totality of the evidence we have right now when evaluating its sustainability and ability to promote health. That evidence suggests that a purely meat based diet will likely leave some nutritional needs unmet, but as more compelling case studies emerge (like yours!), further longer term studies will likely be conducted.

Basically I'll stay on a all meat diet for 6 months enjoy great health then I will eat some carbs and get ridiculously sick and I only do that because my doctor was yelling at me and seriously I just think I'm going to go all meat. Plants make me sick end of story I'll miss the bread but not enough to have the kind of problems I had from carbohydrates. I still eat some vegetables that are low in carbs but not a lot my diet's probably about 95% of meat. No we do not need fiber. Of course humans ate whatever they came by, just like many other animals, that doesn't mean they should given options. The idea we got the bulk of our diet from plants is just false. It was only within the last 100,000 yrs did we start to see tools refined for processing plants. Comparative anatomy, Stable Isotope testing/trophic level, archaeology, all of it points to a diet rich in meats. We are Facultative Carnivores. There is NO properly controlled, ward lock in, long term study on any diet. Yet you claim it's bad long term? Some surveys and finger wagging every few years is not a long term study. It's pseudoscience. Carnivores get more than enough Vitamin C. Vitamin K1 is a phytonutrient and has to be converted into K2, the animal nutrient, less than 10% of that is even converted, you can get K2 eating animals. Phytonutrients are just that, nutrients for plants, what can a human use them for except to turn some into animal nutrients--It's why we are literally carnivores and not true omnivores. Omnivores like pigs can turn phytonutrients into every single nutrient they require, humans cannot. Calcium is easy on carnivore. lol.

Parts of this are incorrect. Animal foods are not lacking any nutrients. In fact, plants lack all the vitamins and minerals you need. This is why vegans and vegetarians have to take supplements. Also, plants are much more difficult to metabolize. They are not bio-available like animal products are. And no one needs fiber and no one needs fruit, grains or carbs of any kind. it's totally NOT restrictive. I know people who've been carnivore for 14, 15 years, no problem. I reversed my T2 diabetes with carnivore and will soon no longer need my blood pressure meds. Show me ANY other diet that can do that. Lab results don't lie. Also, since fatty meats are so satiating, you automatically don't want snacks, you don't get hungry and so, intermittent fasting is built in.
