I know with all the terrible things going on in the world..wild fires, floods, political unrest…that my day was not a terrible day in the grand scheme of things. But for mr..it was not a good day. So here I am, cup of tea in hand hoping to be soothed and I know Mary will not disappoint. Let’s get started!

I certainly feel this as well. I have worried all week about Maui and just the business of life. Sometimes a little tea and a diversion is therapy for the mind and soul. I appreciate you mentioning that.

Ever since I was a child I have loved American history and beautiful historic homes. I was fortunate to have had a relative who shared my interest and took me to visit many of them. There’s something about standing in a room and imagining the people who lived there and envisioning them in that very room. And of course the gardens. Thank you Mary for another lovely video. Like everyone else I look forward to the calm, peaceful beauty that you share. I love your little treasure boxes that you found while antiquing.

Thank you Mary! We have visited Mount Vernon twice, on our second trip we took two of our nephews. They both enjoyed the history and property. We plan to see more of those historic homes. Beautiful treasure you found! I look forward to your next book review! Have a wonderful weekend!

Those sweeping stairways are amazing! I remember Scarlet O’Hara sneaking down the stairway in hopes to Ashley! These homes make me proud of the beautiful homes we can visit in America, and relive sone of the history. Lovely book. Thanks for the tour and sharing your new treasures Mary.

The Scarlett O'Hara moment is burned in my memory! I was 7 years old the first time I saw it. I never understood why she wanted Ashley above Rhett. As I grew older, I realized it was because she couldn't have him. This was a good lesson on human nature!

Thank you for the book review and sharing the tour of Tryon Palace. My husband renovated/rejuvanted a historic home on Craven Street in New Bern. We owned it from 2001 until 2014. We enjoyed this town on the Neuse and Trent Rivers. I wondered though if we had renovated a home in Wilimington if we would still be there. Thanks again Mary, very nice vlog.

Hi Mary ~ This weeks book review can certainly take a person back in time. The older homes had such charm and elegance. Just keeping the light fixtures clean would be a chore/ha. Thank you for another gracious book review! 💕

You sound as if you have lived in an older home. I cleaned the pendant light in our foyer last week and it took over an hour of careful climbing, prepping and disassembling the 100 year old hurricane glass fixture. When I do this I always think about the many people before me that did the same thing to this very light.

@@thetartantopiary Wow, now that's history...to think of the people who have been in your home through all the years and loved and cared for it as you do. I have only had relatives with older homes but not myself. We do have a dining room chandelier that my husband cleans and he counted once the crystals with over 1,200. I think lighting is everything in a home. Till next week.

Thank you, Mary! This beautiful book will definitely be added to my collection. I’ve always been mesmerized by the history and gorgeous architecture of days gone by. Also, love June’s Journey! It made an appearance while I was playing solitaire, so thought I’d give it a try. Needless to say, I’m hooked!♥

Thank you for the lovely review. I loved hearing some of the history of these great houses. When I was young, my grandmother took me on visits to some of the historic houses in our area. This brought back many cherished memories.

Thank you for your review of these historic homes. Like to hear the history and imagine what it would have been like to have lived then. Thank you for Tryon Palace tour. Learned so much, in fact, more than I did on my visit many years ago (probably have forgotten a lot). Your treasures are lovely; especially the boxes, which I am drawn to also. Looking forward to next week’s review.

I also am 4 hours from Biltmore House which is a must to see at Christmas...you can get a 2 day pass for The Candlelight Tour at night and then the day tour. As you can tell...I love Christmas lol Will definitely try the game

What a wonderful book I absolutely love it. It also brings back some great memories, I emigrated to America from England to the state of South Carolina in 1975 and in 1976 toured the area of williamsburg for the celebration of 200 years of the revolutionary War also my first visit to Monticello of course all in Virginia, so many beautiful southern homes also in South Carolina where I lived for quite a few years. Nice to see more of your visit in New Bern, North Carolina. Can't wait to see what you bring to the book review next week when I get your notification each week I rush over to see what you bring. Have a wonderful weekend until next time.

Hi!! Mary Another great book selection. Have I told you I love the music selection also, it takes me back to the mid- late 70, ( Miami) I was young then, and some of the restaurants my friends and I would visit, had beautiful soft music that sounded like that playing in the background 😊. Your mystery game sounds a little like Miss Fisher? Have a great week.
@thetartantopiary Жыл бұрын
I can't believe this, but I've never seen an episode of Miss Fisher. I do know what you mean when you refer to music played at restaurants. For years there was a restaurant in South Beach on Lincoln Road that my husband and I would frequently visit called "Yuca". The music they played was so calming and relaxing. Did you ever eat there?

All those houses had slaves
@thetartantopiary Жыл бұрын
Enslaved Person is the term used in place of slave. It more accurately describes someone who was forced to perform labor or services against their will. I also reviewed a book on “Great Houses of New England” and many of the houses featured in that book had enslaved people, if that interests you. One more book, “The Great Pyramids of Egypt” details the experience of enslaved people as they were building these structures.

For the perfect cup of tea, MUST POUR MILK/CREAM FIRST, then the tea. Try it like that, the Royal Family drinks it that way.😊
