Sandy Munro is an expert of 30yrs, that understands costs of manufacturing. He claims the F150 cost 210 million to build 50k trucks. He believes Tesla will be able to produce the same about for 30 million. Their elimination of small parts(giga press), & paint, significantly reduces operating costs by 7x. It's the reason Musk decided to use this steel for Space X. Rather than expensive composites, that require additional materials to make up for the shortcomings. I believe he said, the elimination of the paint shop, saves 30% of cost alone.

Probably they will never make the rear drive only model that is only 6% of orders, that was originally supposed to be $40,000. So if they have a base version of dual motor 300 or so miles range, with the inflation, at least $55,000 if not $60,000 bass model, which will still be a bargain for what you get because the truck will very likely outlive most buyers in their thirties.

They pulled the specifications for the Cybertruck from the website a while ago but when it was listed it was about identical to the crew cab Ford f-150 in width and length. I think city folk who have never really shopped for or looked at a pickup truck up close are the ones that keep saying this thing is "massive" and it won't fit in a garage. Specifications stated it was roughly the same size as all the other full sized four door pickup trucks out there today in the US.

I believe it’s taken this long for Idra in Italy to make the giga-press for this thing. I’ll be surprised it turns out as big as the concept - re: regulations, practicality - roads, parking, etc. some of the edgings could be softened in order to pass crash safety testing. If they can make it in a single colour only - then that’ll be a big cost saving. The way that silver / satin paint technology has moved on they could probably emulate the brushed steel effect pretty damn well.

Good video! I’m curious if they use one of those super giant stamp press things to make this truck or if they have some other method seeing how it’s got all those flat sides on it. Maybe it’s simply not necessary to stamp out the bodies like they do the cars. Makes me wonder if it’s less expensive to make if they didn’t have to develop a giant stamp press for this model. I remember watching a video about Elon discussing the magnitude of building one of those Press mold stamp machines that are as big as a house. Anyway good video-nicely done! Good narration!

I saw on a drone video KZbin channel that covers giga texas that they are building a massive stamping press for what they think is the cybertruck. That would be for the 30x steel exoskeleton. A press is used to stamp out curved panels from flat stock, this truck uses flat panels so all they need is a sheet metal shear. I'm not sure why they went with flat panels, perhaps they had a surplus of stainless steel and they needed to get rid of it, perhaps they had a reason to make the vehicle much heavier and less sturdy than otherwise... NO WAY they deliver this brand new (design/manufacturing method) Cybertruck for $50,000 USD. The cheapest Tesla in the US in November 2022 is the base Model 3 at $47,000, a car that has seen price increases for over a year. So if the Cybertruck makes production in late 2023 or 2024 it's likely that even the entry level Tesla Model 3 will be near or over $50,000 at that time.

As far as the door handles: I thought when they showed the new prototype it had gotten rid of the handles and instead just opens when you approach - which seems kinda iffy to do properly. What if some peeps walk up to it as you're walking away, will it open for them? I imagine that auto-doors will require someone standing in front of the driver's door with the RFID key before it will open doors for other passengers, but how will it not open in the wrong situation without causing reliability issues when you want it to open. I would think that a mechanical failsafe would be a good idea. Counting on automation sounds like a recipe for really bad happenings.
