I agree with literally every issue brought up in this video. One thing that REALLY made me not like Jen was in the first episode (I think), Bruce mentions how she doesn't want people to see her as a monster, and it was clear that he was touching on something incredibly personal, but she just brushed it off and didn't even acknowledge or even notice this serious aspect of the trauma he's endured. People keep defending this as either a comedy or a courtroom drama, but comedies are funny and courtroom dramas are compelling, and I honestly don't think this show is either of those.

Some people are even defending it as meta commentary where the one dimensional depictions are commentary on the audience, and the people who don't like the show. All because Jessica Gao is involved in writing the show. Which means that even the women that don't like this show are just sexists, and despite these same audience members showing up for just about every other MCU movie. Making it raise the question, does Disney just absolutely hate their audience regardless of sex or race?

The writers would definitely never include that last example. Good fathers? They despise the very idea. All men must be stupid, evil, and/or sexist. If they're not visibly any of these things, some small facet of their character that might be considered a flaw (like Steve Rogers not having promiscuous and meaningless sex) must be dredged up and endlessly mocked.

I don’t think the comics matter at all at this point, and actually trying to stick to the comics is hurting the MCU in Phase 4. That is just a bandwagon excuse to dislike something, because those that truly cared about that are long gone from the MCU. None of the shows problems stem from that. While the male leads in a lot of female targeted content are bumbling buffoons. Which I happen to know is a common complaint from woman... I used to think it was men writing female led properties not knowing what the fuck they are doing, then I watched a lot of female led projects and realized it's just a hollywood problem... They are still obsessed with all that battle of the sexes nonsense. If men who have an innate desire to protect and provide for their partners are attracted to hyper competent woman, why on earth would woman be attracted to bumbling man children? Why is it so hard for Marvel of all companies to write a compelling superhero story? You don't even have to do anything new. 1. Introduce your character. Make them an overall good person. 2. Show how they got their powers. 3. Show them doing good things with it like helping a kitten off a tree. 4. Have a main villain. They are often selfish and do evil things. 5. Have them clash and fight. 6. Hero wins, villain is defeated and roll credits. *(OPTIONAL) Give the hero some struggles involving living with their super powers and trying to maintain a secret identity. *(OPTIONAL) Have the hero and villain have conflicting ideals even though they both had nearly the same background. The most fascinating thing: In the current Wong-episode there is a moment when She-Hulks date wakes up, looks at Jennifer Walters and instantly leaves. Jennifer then quits that this might hurt her feelings and that’s it. This would’ve been a great dramatic moment because Jen in the comics needed to learn to love herself and She-Hulk was partially an escape for her. While Bruce didn’t want to turn into the Hulk, Jennifer doesn’t want to turn back, because She-Hulk is everything she dreamt of being. hit it on the head. So much of the problems with the show would be less if she actually was shown expiriencing struggles. Like, even if they didn't want to do a mob hit (which doesn't make a ton of sense since it would give and easy connection to Dare Devil), having her origin be "Oopsy! got splashed with hulk blood" doesn't make sense. Have her actually struggle before she becomes shehulk! Honestly if I were the writers, I'd have her be a brilliant lawyer, but have anxiety problems. From the media and fans, i got a good impression of the character but kinda looked forward to the show for more context or a freshstart to "become" a fan. Episode one, really disappointed me. As she's talking to Banner, her words hit me also since i've been connected with his struggles. The disrespect was off the charts. i don't mind banter but this felt cheap, low, mean spirited. If only Marvel could make a movie about She-Hulk, but unfortunately Universal has right of first refusal or something so if there were to be a Hulk related movie, it would be them making a good chunk of the money, and since Disney wants to make all the money... yeah, that ain't happening. If they wanted to do something different with Jen's origin, why not tie it back into the more Hulk related stuff from the MCU instead of a ship from Sakaar? They could have had Samuel Sterns return from the old Hulk movie, captured Jen and then have Bruce transfuse some of his blood into her for an experiment. Then after he sees the results, he takes more of Bruce's blood and uses it to turn himself fully into The Leader.

I was so upset about the woman's bathroom scene because they took a woman who looked dirty and injured and gave her a makeover?! So when those guys hit on her.... AT A BAR... she's enraged because somehow they are supposed to know she's just been in a car accident? When she's wearing a party girl coat and has perfect makeup? Firstly, I don't let strangers use their makeup on me... secondly, to get that face of makeup they were working on her for 15-20 minutes...at no point she tells them "hey I've been in a car accident"? I think what most writers fail to realize that character is genderless. No, that doesn't mean that doesn't mean that all great characters are nonbinary. It means that when writing a character, whether they are a man, woman, transgender, nonbinary and so on, that should all be secondary. For example, say you have a character who is frightened by various things, is hardly what you'd call the brave type, but ends up beating a villain significantly stronger and more confident than them and gaining confidence from the encounter, while still experiencing fear from time to time. I have just described the characters of Deku and Sarah Connor, both really beloved characters, not because of their gender, but for who they are. Yes, they are written by completely different people, however, they are very similar in how their character functions. I'm under the impression that you should first make a personality for a character and THEN decide what they are gender-wise. I think that why the MCU and modern comics are stumbling. They have the visual character but then drain the initial personality and they, let's face it, substitute an inferior personality. The funny thing is, if you look back to phase one, Black Widow and Peggy Carter are excellent characters, who despite not being the main character, were extremely well fleshed out characters. It upsets me to no end that this has becomes a debate of who has it worse or thrives off the controversy that even this series pokes fun at because they feel the need to bm their audience.

Jen can still go on her whole rant but I think bring up the fact that for all of Bruce's life he has been pressured to not show his emotions could make an interesting conversation. Men have just as many emotions as women do, but instead of expressing them, most internalize them. And with having the Hulk, theres a whole new type of pressure for Bruce to not express his emotions. But now he is able to co-exist with the Hulk which can be read with Bruce being now secure enough with his emotions. I dont know, I just think its something we should talk about more in general.

There was nothing wrong with her comic origin. And based off what I seen, Jen just comes off so entitled and unlikeable, acting like she's the only one who struggles in life and downplaying the actual hardships most heroes face. If this ends up getting treated like a flaw of hers and she grows from it, that'd be better, but I doubt that's what they'll do. And I'm fine if the MCU wants to poke fun at itself a little, but the jokes about it don't seem like they come from a place of love or respect, but from people who don't actually care about superheroes. I also was never big on Professor Hulk. I know it's in the comics, but still not huge on it. I think Casually Comics said it best. "Let Bruce's thing be Bruce's thing and let Jen's thing be Jen's thing." Also, why does it seem to be a trend in modern media where the writers are like "I'm writing for a show about this kind of stuff, but I am not good about writing for this kind of stuff"? That should be a red flag. There are some parts of Phase 4 I've enjoyed so far. Spider-Man No Way Home was great of course, and Shang-Chi was actually pretty fun, but the MCU just doesn't feel like it used to be anymore. I'm just not going to waste time with this show and put my time to better use actually looking at She-Hulk comics. Anyone got any issue/series recommendations for where to start?

It’s interesting how all these new shows try to “showcase real women“ yet all they do is make women look petty, simple, and weak. In my opinion I think it’s doing women a terrible injustice. I’m surrounded by strong capable women so I find all this to be laughable but distressing.

Interesting that despite she thinks she does manage her anger infinitely more than him because of mansplaining and catcalling, she won't choose the hermit life where she would definitely not have to deal with those things.

If they couldn't get Thor right with two movies I had no hope for She Hulk. Despite the low ratings I actually liked the first two Thor movies. They understood his character. Although them trying to take his magic and claim it as technology was retarded
