X-Men Green is Marvel's new controversial X-men story which follows the murderous Nature Girl as she goes on a rampage across the North American continent in the name of environmentalism. Unfortunately, her solution to climate change is to kill people and blow up an oil refinery. It's as bonkers as it sounds. Souron also showed up but he wasn't really worth mentioning since he doesn't actually add anything to the story.

He is so appealing because he targets the absolute worst. I remember this marvel anime series (I think) where he kills an undercover cop posing as a mafia member or something. He feels devastated, laying down, completely different from his usual proactive self. That's an anti-hero, someone that wants to root out evil, because they don't want the good to be hurt. This b¡tch goes around killing innocents... She deserved the chair, honestly.

Weirdly enough, looking at her final design at the end of this, she looks like a discount Hela. So makes me think that the people who wrote this originally wanted a similar story with Hela, but it got denied so they used the next closet comic and character they could get their hands on. So, yet again another character got sacrificed for someone's pointless idea because they couldn't get the character they wanted.

Agree. This keeps hapening since long ago. Reminds us about that time Dick Grayson slept with Barbara just to tell her he was going to marry Koriand'r the next day. Such a "dick" move excused just with that poor argument: "We want human characters like you and me". First of all, being rude or offensive is not being a regular human, we need to stop that. Second, super heroes should be people to look up for, not a random guy. They should be different, not perfect but with morals above the regular John Doe. It's not okay to force the heores in that "flawed just like everyone else, so they mess up big just like you" thing. They're supposed to be heroes. And when they're used to carry some group's voice, they don't function properly, they're supposed to work for everyone's well being, not taking strong political sides. Even worst when it's not well done just like this comic. We're all for the planet protection but this doesn't give a good message at all. We're sorry for Nature girl. Such disrespect for the character...
@masterDarts4188
@masterDarts4188 2 жыл бұрын
The thing about Marvel is that the characters are not perfect. Sadly being human means doing things that are wrong and sometimes outright as stupid. I dont mind that, but the moral is always seeing the character learn and grow so we can grow with them. The problem is, that only works if the writer is aware of the error of the character. Here, the writer thinks they are completely in the right. So there's nothing learned, and nothing gained.
@Skilldraw
@Skilldraw 2 жыл бұрын
@@masterDarts4188 Yes, exactly. In fact that was Marvel's innovation side. For example, Peter Parker was a regular teenager student with teenager problems. They don't have to be perfect and are allowed to mess up, just like us but they don't have to be @sses. Like, they're a super hero, there are certaing lines you should avoid to cross when writting a hero. They're suppose to be at least trying to be better persons. Here they don't even acknowledge she's in the wrong, and that mades it worst.

Super Heroes can make big mistakes, thats not the issue. The issue is HOW they make them make the big mistakes. They have them make the big mistakes out of selfishness, callous disregard, or some other factor that acts in defiance of what the traits that are required to be a super hero in for the first place like selflessness. This here is an example of it being done terribly because our "superhero" flips her shit at the death of a turtle and goes on a huge murdering spree literally lacking any serious consideration on the matter or any remorse. A good example would be Spiderman revealing his identity during Civil War. He did it with good intentions, believing in Tony Stark and his ideas for the betterment of everyone. But this of course in some side stories had monumentally disasterous side affects like his Aunt May being assassinated. He screwed up by revealing his identity but he did it with only the best of intentions for everyone. Nature Girl on the other hand says shes doing it for a greater good but is murdering random people and doesn't feel bad about it, all the while basically inciting a war that would cause untold damage to humans, mutants, and nature itself.

This seems like this is a villian origin story. One of those villians that think that they in the right but the way they are doing it makes them a villian. If you look at the picture at 8:52 she looks like she is now a villian. She cares for the environment and that is what starts it, but as time goes on she starts to find more and more enjoyment in what she is doing. She will still say it is all for the environent but it is more that she enjoys it and she doesn't care who or what she hurts or destroys in her way. Like that Bear she had fight Wolverine. She knew Wolverine would not kill it, but I can guarantee that if he did, accident or purpose, she would use that as justifiation to label the X-Men as enemies of hers and the planet's. Even if she was controling the bear to attack him.

If it is a villain origin, than it's not just the origin story of turning Nature Girl into Marvel's version of the eco-terrorist version of Poison Ivy. Because ALL the X-men AGREE WITH HER. They all want to look the other way, or justify her murders. Not a single one of them speaks out against her psychotic serial murders except that they make mutants look bad. They even ultimately HELP her and power her up and send her back to keep murdering more people. As far as I'm concerned ever since the x-men went to Krakoa, they've transformed into villains. I don't know if Krakoa is somehow controlling Charles and through him everybody else, but the X-men have essentially fully joined the Brotherhood of Mutants and ultimately intend the extinction of humanity. These aren't even "X-men in name only". They are anti-x-men. Or, in other words: to them, it's not about equality or objective right-and-wrong; it's about superiority. And that's disgusting. It's no wonder I hardly bother with comics these days and just end up skimming through issue after issue. It's depressing, really. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. This is the same problem I had with the rocon arc with immortal hulk. Just because hulk CAN remove the barriers that's preventing the recent generation from making a difference, the way he was going about it was by being destructive rather than doing something productive or having plan. Yes roxon is evil, but what exactly would he have done after destabilizing the company? He would've disenfranchised thousands of people because he believed he had to destroy some humans for the good of humanity and the rest of the planet. What makes the comic even worse is the fact at least al Ewing realized that hulk was still putting a lot of people's lives on the line, even if his intentions were "noble". It'd still wasn't perfect, considering hulk was depicted as some dark hero for doing something that should've been done years ago, and not some extremist lunatic who doesn't care about the lower class workers he was driving into poverty and unemployment with his actions. These stories focus too much on the corporation itself and not those employed under them. You could shut the doors on roxon, you can expose all their deali gs to their world, but what happens to the people who aren't evil who workfor them. They aren't aim or hydra, they're not shadowy collective. Unfortunately, they form a massive part of the American economy in this universe. So tearing it all to ground could have horrific consequences on the economy. And characters like nature girl epitomizes everything wrong with extremists. They care about the environment but it's to a point where they do more harm than good for both humans and often times the ecosystems they want to protect.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers certainly had a few ham-fisted episodes but everyone forgets that many episodes were actually quite nuanced. In the episode "The Dead Seas" for example Kwame points out that one of the reasons over-fishing and use of drift nets is wrong is because many people rely on sustainable fishing methods to support themselves and their families. Over-fishing is a threat to their livilihoods. There is a clear distinction made between sustainable fishing methods and over-fishing. Or in "Canned Hunt" when Linka berates a hunter who then points out that she has no grounds to criticise him when she eats meat. Said hunter aided the Planeteers in stopping Greedly's canned hunt. Another episode about lab animals acknowledged that experimentation on animals is neccessary to find treatments/cures for diseases. Again there was a clear distinction made between humane research purposes and inhumane experimentation. But of course no-one ever talks about those episodes do they?

I could actually see this being good if Nature Girl faced meaningful consequences for her actions, or better yet, was forced to see that her methods were completely ineffective at best, and at worst, actively counterproductive. Perhaps have her confront the MU's analogue of Greta Thonberg. She can remain a villain, sure, but give her a better reason; perhaps the sea turtle was just one thing too many. Or she can feel ecosystem damage and it's more than she can cope with. Seriously, I'm not even a professional writer and I can create a better treatment in a few moments.

The demonization of blue collar work is sort appalling to me, it goes to show the writers have never worked a blue collar job in their life. Most blue collar workers are just doing a job to make ends meet, they aren't pure evil. The companies, now, had nature girl somehow murdered the ceo of a company that was polluting after telling him to fix stuff, there would be more of an arguement. She'd still not be a hero. As someone who's getting a degree in environmental science, violence hardly, if ever, works to make changes. the only time I can think of is during the 70s when there was a big hoopla about native fishing treaty rights. Even then, it was more stuff like fish ins (think sit in, but on the water) being met with police violence. So it wasn't the protesters initiating the violence. The thing is, there is a compelling story to tell about these pipeline workers. The towns they live in are horribly polluted and drug addicted. There's also a connection between the pipeline towns and native women disappearing. Maybe not a great xmen story, but idk, it's a complicated situation that's about an actual social justice issue. On another note, I like the new avatars! they are very expressive!

I hate this obsession with environmentalism! It takes this unrealistic view that humans and nature are competing enemies that cannot reach a balance. As if the only options are “go back to mud huts and leaf skirts” and “the icecaps are melting and everything is on fire!” 🤦‍♀️ Humans have the great ability to overcome and manipulate the environment to our needs, and the environment will correct itself when needed. I too prefer green areas and little stuff, but I also love air conditioning and not having to hunt/gather my food. Balance is key! And quite demonizing the people who make society run! Without blue collar workers, these comic ‘writers’ wouldn’t have their cushy, central heating/cooling, go to coffeeshops constantly, or by able to buy the foods they want at the store. Oil and transportation workers are especially vital for economies! When those guys are down, the country stalls and these insufferable writers wouldn’t know how to open a can of beans with a manual can opener. Also, if someone cries “green energy!” but balks at nuclear, they are hacks who need to learn how the real world operates.

I think the main reason people argue against nuclear power is actually that the vast majority of our nuclear power facilities are horrendously outdated things from the 80s or earlier that produce large amounts of waste and are security risks. How and why this means we can't just... swap to the newer models that make more power, make less waste, take up less space *and* create more jobs, I couldn't tell you. If I'm being honest it's probably just that like all other problems: somebody who is already making money uses that money to stop somebody else from making more efficient money because that would stop the flow of their money. Firstly, individual people are not the problem. It is giant international corporations that do the notable polluting. A single person throwing trash on the ground is shitty, but an oil company spilling millions of gallons of oil or strip mining a rainforest is the real issue. A book where the X-Men address corporate pollution to bring awareness could be good, but big daddy Disney would never allow Marvel to portray giant corporations as bad. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney has stake in oil companies. Second, this is the Marvel Earth. Not ours. I'll use examples from DC, because I know more about that than Marvel, but it still applies. Recently in DC, they had an event called Endless Winter in which a magical creature caused the planet to freeze over. In reality, this would have devistated the world's ecosystems. But the heroes won and everything recovered. Then, DC goes and has Superboy protesting against carbon emissions, or something. This is a total disconnect from the reality of the universe. A hero, over their lunch break, can build an interdimensional teleporter that runs on a perpetual motion machine, but the cars still run on gasoline? Mr. Fantastic and Mr. Terrific would have solved their world's energy issues and released the pattents to the public for free. You can't have stories that are directly about issues our world is dealing with because those fictional worlds wouldn't have the same problems. You have to use allegory to represent the issue you want to address. But these modern writers and editors aren't clever enough to pull that off. So, we get trash like this X-Men story.

The Punisher would have only attacked that guy if he knew he was a serial killer or had stashes of kiddie p*rn. 2) Other heroes in the Marvel Universe do not agree with the Punisher's actions or even like him. Sure, they'll agree the people he's usually after are horrible people who should be brought to justice but that's it. Here, the X-Men are more bothered Nature Girl got caught and damaged their PR. It also helps confirm what others have been saying since the Hickman era started that the X-Men as a whole have ceased being heroes as well as other cases like trying to kidnap Franklin Richards before they realized he isn't really a mutant. If they wanted to do an Eco-Punisher/Poison Ivy-sequence take on Nature Girl it could've been interesting if they were you know, actually vilify her actions instead of insist she's a hero and not fill it with straw men. Instead this reads like some overzealous activists' violent wet dream.

After Ra's announces he intends to use the Lazarus Pits to kill almost half the earth population in order to heal the Earth, Batman responds with, 'Yes. It's clear to me now. This reminds me of Thanos' backstory. He performed deadly experiments on living beings, including his own mother. However, this was just a coverup because he didn't want to admit that he just plain liked killing. When he experimented on his mother, he finally admitted that to her and himself. In short, he used an ethical/just reason to cover the fact that he just liked killing. Nature girl seems the same. Saying she feels alive after killing a bunch of people certainly isn't doing her any favors.

I'm writing an original story about, after a national disaster on my country (Brazil), people starts to gain superpowers. Mostly of the people use their new superpowers for personal gains, with two major groups: one is composed by minorities who "fight" unequality and oppression by using fear and terrorism against innocent people. The other group is a bunch of vigilantes who just want to destroy the first group, no matter the cost. Sometimes I think that I'm writing strawman villains, but comics like this show me that this is a real, serious issue happening nowadays. Btw, against these antagonists, stands a girl with a tokusatsu-like armor. I chose that because I feel tokusatsu heroes are some of the few modern characters that are still actual heroes, like Kamen Rider Build or Ex-Aid.

Wow, this comic shows the real truth about today's social activists, especially the really woke ones. It's not about equality or justice or protecting anything, it's *all about power.* Nature Girl didn't kill those people to protect anyone or anything, it's was all to feel powerful. Same theme is repeated by the new Batwhamen at the start of season 2: "Time to be powerful." Yet they've clearly forgotten that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Just proves that today's writers resonate more with villains than actual heroes.

I think this whole series is the perfect allegory for the modern X-Men run as a whole. A “utopian” society comprised entirely of super powered individuals with no regard for the sanctity of human life operating on an “us vs. them” kind of mentality that the story wants to portray as a good thing because it’s all based on the idea of preservation and “justice.” I know that’s a bit of a generalization, but those are the vibes that this current run, and this series especially, are giving me, and as an X-Men fan, I don’t like it.

He was a Holocaust survivor, he has seen the worst that humanity can do, not just to mutants, but to anyone they viewed as "different". Yet Magneto still agreed to lead the Xmen when Xavier was gone, he still viewed him as a friend and willing to help his "enemies" when they desperately needed it. and plus many times, he just wants a home for mutants so they could be left alone.

I don't understand this fascination with violence and death in books like this. It almost seems to tie in with this strange fetish for destruction that certain ideologues (sorry, "creatives") seem to subscribe to. Here's the thing: Violence, death, and destruction are easy. Think of kicking over a Jenga tower. All it takes is one action for everything to come crashing down. It's a simple solution, and as such appealing to those who want an easy blanket remedy to their problems. Things like creation, cultivation, and reconstruction are much harder. Going back to the Jenga example, it takes time and energy to balance the Jenga tower, but the end result is that something has been made out of it. Creation is complex and difficult and oftentimes doesn't work out right away, but it's worth it in order to create something enduring. This fucking comic epitomizes destruction, violence, and bloodshed with this disgusting veneer of "justice". None of this is necessary or acceptable. Perhaps Nature Girl could take a cue from Bisexual "Superman" and do a goddamn protest, but no instead she has to violently murder people for the sake of The Green (sorry, Gaia) and call humans an infection that needs to be purged. What an absolute disgrace to the X-men name.

Every time I see X men Green, it makes me more and more depressed of how bad Marvel had gotten. If x men green becomes an actual series I'll never buy that comic. I really want to know what is going on in The head of X men Editor, Jordon White. What was he thinking? He read this, he allowed this to happen and he thought this is a good story? And Bad comics like this start controversy and overshadows what little good comics we got left. Like the only two modern x men comic that are actually good was Hellions and Way of X but both of them ended. Way of X is getting a sequel called the Legionaries or Legion of X(hope they kept the same writer because he care about writing a good comic). So far the Modern Marvel comic I've enjoy was Strange Academy and Darkhawk by Kyle Higgins. they cares about their audience and write their characters as heroes.

Wow. That's really all I can say, just wow. This story probably would've been better if they actually treated her as a villain. She really comes across as a horribly written Magneto. Yes, Magneto did have a tragic backstory that makes it understandable why he hates humans, and he is noble in how he wants best for mutants, but most stories still acknowledge that his extremist actions are wrong and aren't going to help anything. But NOOOOOOO, of course Nature Girl is totally right in killing all these humans, and actually gets away with no consequences. I should be surprised, but by this point, all I can do is sigh. (Also, did they realize that in the end Nature Girl looks exactly like Hela? Again, doing a terrible job at convincing us she's not evil.) If I wanted to engage with media that actually touches the topic of environmentalism with nuance, I'd just rewatch Princess Mononoke again. Seriously, it's a film I can never give enough praise to. It's one of the only pro-environment things I've seen (I haven't seen a lot, but still) that remembers to treat the humans like... actual humans. In fact, let me talk about the main antagonist, Lady Eboshi, and why she's my favorite character in the movie. Yes, her actions are hurting the forest, but the film doesn't just make her this "Haha I'm evil and I do bad things just because evil" person. She's actually capable of empathy. She takes lepers and brothel girls, people society have rejected, and gives them a place in her town and jobs to do. Her killing the Forest Spirit is not good, but she does it because she thinks it's the best way to protect her village from warlords. Lady Eboshi truly does fascinate me. Many of her actions are indeed wrong, but when I see how much her people care for her, and how much she cares for her people, I can never bring myself to hate her. Also, she does receive consequences for her actions. Princess Mononoke also teaches us that violence and hatred is not the answer, and that if we give into our hate, it will only destroy us. It's a message that Nature Girl and the writers of this comic definitely need bashed into their heads. Hopefully one day, they, as well as us, can see with eyes unclouded by hate.

Remember when comics where just a fantasy world, without reflection to much of the real world? As someone who grew up with OG comics, they helped get through a lot. As an outcast I found an escape into a fantasy world where the heroes always save the day and good always prevailed. But now, now when I try to revisit this fantasy world I am met with reality. The bitter reality that I am trying to escape. I just want to be inspired again by hero's who knew where to draw the line, who held their values, and faced evil when they saw it. Now we get "heroes" who are more villains than the villains they fight, where killing is a means to an end, where the "heroes" are now the judge, jury, & executioner.
