I've been doing the "voo" sound often in the car as I find driving stressful. It has definitely helped me calm down. I hope I'm doing it right... In the morning I chant om & Voo. Also bilateral tapping (butterfly taps) on the chest has been helpful. One has to release the self conscious feeling and just give it a go. I wish I had been taught these techniques in early primary school.
@carolinethompson3763 жыл бұрын
I was sceptical about this. I've done meditation before and know that focusing on the breath can help you relax. But I tried it anyway for a few times and I think I actually feel different. The feelings of despair have eased. I'm impressed.

I was also reminded of the same. However, the center of the physical sensation (at least to me) is different, which may create different mental/emotional effects. "Om" vibrations are mostly in the head. "Voo" is mostly in the diaphragm

Yes. We Indians have been practicing Brahmari since mote than a THOUSAND years.. Instead of Voo, we just hummm in a natural way. TY Dr Levine for sharing this. Always nice to learn new things. God Bless
@waywardmuse3 жыл бұрын
To enhance this even more, do it to the rhythm of a fibonacci sequence - for example make the in breath 5 counts, then the out breath 8. This can stay simple (3 -5) or more complex - up to 8-13 and beyond, as long as the outbreath is fully released as he says. 🙂
@Clodhopping2 жыл бұрын
Yep - that's basic pranayama. A longer out breath reduces the oxygen levels to reduce heart rate and blood pressure. We tend to over breathe and suck in too much oxygen. 4 in, 8 out is a good ratio. 👍

What all of these have in common is a) interrupting the pattern of thinking, feeling, speaking, doing and being b) replacing them with a clear, non-threatening new pattern of thinking, feeling, speaking, doing and being to allow the body and heart and mind to break the cycle of attachment to the traumatized identity that becomes a life-raft of certainty during overwhelm and shock. I did a breathing exercise for 15 minutes twice a day and it has the same effect. Mushrooms do the same thing at moderate doses by reducing blood to the default mode network.

Right???...it's not a stupid question at all, I just commented asking the same thing. I have no clue how to do it either. I really hate how videos like this just assume everybody knows how to do these things so easily. Then it's so very damn depressing reading through all the comments of people claiming how much it helps them. I seriously wonder if any are lying about it working. 🤔 I have tried some of the Somatic exercises, I have no idea how to communicate with my body or how to do this "body scan" I read about everywhere. I've always felt so deeply disconnected from myself, everyone and everything my whole life and I still do. What the hell does this mean? Am I too broken or something? It feels like very important parts of me were violently ripped out of me as a child and just thrown away like trash somewhere. I feel absolutely nothing from any of these exercises. 😕 I'm so sorry for my long comment, I just feel so hopeless...like I'm far too screwed up and broken for any form of therapy to finally help me heal. And I'm actually beginning Somatic Experiencing therapy with someone I found on the SE website this week. I'm so worried it won't help me. 😕...sorry again for my long reply here, thank you if read it all.

Don't focus on the outcomes. Just do the exercise. Inhale through the nose and "voo" or "om" on the out breath - and make the out breath longer. It reduces the oxygen level in the blood and slows a rapid heartbeat and lowers blood pressure. If you mind wanders during this, that's fine, just focus again on the sound ❤️
