Absolutely. New axes are great, but a restored vintage American axe is my first choice. Feel free to ask any questions or give your 2 cents also. Good luck man.

I'm looking for an ax to cut some of my old dead trees down. From my research it sounds like i should look for an old ax and restore it instead of by a new one. What type should I look for?

What was the 1st grit sandpaper did you use on the blade? And was that a ball peen hammer to bring the eye of the hatchet farther down on the handle? Last question, what size was that C clamp did you use with that piece of leather? I just found your channel so thank you for this in depth video 🙏🙏

I’ve tried wax and have begun to love it. Started w carnauba car wax on handles. Grippier and easy to keep clean. But I have no idea if it’s better than oils or not so please reply….it’s been a year and it’s seems significantly better but I’m ignorant on subject in general
@old_iron_axe_and_tool Жыл бұрын
I can't say which is better because I have used wax enough. I'm sure they both have they're place.

Just curious why raw linseed oil as opposed to boiled?
@davidarwood6264Ай бұрын
Some people claim pure linseed oil is absorbed more. I don't think it matters. A couple of years ago on a camping/trout fishing trip , I brought some BLO with me . I heated my axe handle up over the camp fire and added the BLO . I just kept repeating that and I still have a beautiful hickory handle one of my axes. I had to use gloves at a certain point 😅.
