Hi Shoo. I have been doing this proportion method for a long time and it really works for me. This video got me in the mood for doing a self portrait in my sketchbook with my new Winsor and Newton Cotman Pocket box that arrived in the mail on Friday. I love the paints. I wasn't sure I would see the difference from my much cheaper set but there is a huge difference. Thank you for all your continuing inspiration! Debbie from Ontario Canada

Thank you for the great tips. I knew about the first technique but not the angle one - I can see it being very useful. I'll maybe use my index finger though since my thumbs are quite short and not quite as straight.

Shoo, I have missed you! I wish I could join your artist club, but investments are making it almost necessary to go back to work since we've both retired! :-( Best to you! I'll be back. I need to eliminate some of my followees, but I won't delete you!

As I watched you demonstrate obtaining the angle by holding the second pencil, I wondered why you didn't just spread two fingers of your hand to form the angle, then maintain it as you copied it to the paper. It seems easier to me, but maybe I'm missing something.
@angelhelp8 жыл бұрын
+Shoo Rayner I don't put the pencil down. I just use one hand to find the angle, then replicate it on the paper. The hand holding the pencil doesn't need to leave the paper. Ah well... to each, his own. :)
