I started reading "Dont believe everything you think" before few days, and my goodness! it is life transforming. I think I am going to read it over and over again. I was an overthinker I think and that was causing a lot of negative emotions. I used to listen to many podcasts/videos about life and how to be happy etc. Everybody had one thing in common - Try to live in present moment. But somehow I never understood that nor was able to live in the moment because I didn't know how to control my thinking! After reading your book, I still do think but the most important shift that happened in me is "Now I am aware". Whenever I start thinking I somehow become aware about it and tell myself that "thinking is the cause of suffering" and I try to come back. This has helped me a lot, and I think if I make this a practice I can very well enjoy the present moments and make space for creative things. Thank you so much for such a wonderful book!

This is deeply beautiful you have experienced that after reading the book. The process of becoming aware, catching your thinking, and repeating the mantra that thinking is the root cause of suffering is all you have to do in order to find peace in the present like you have done. It becomes easier the more you do it just like building a muscle. Continue to practice this daily and enjoy the feeling of serenity as you let go of your thinking more and more. Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart here with me!

same! i've read a handful of books and listen to all kinds of self-help material on youtube, etc, and have done meditation and breathwork on again and off again for years. i've even tried psychedelics, which gave me a newfound perspective on spirituality and eternity. but those experiences are transient and mainly localized to a window of time. i had never encountered a practical explanation for what to do with intrusive thoughts right in the moment that actually made sense.... for some reason "observe it and let it pass" just never clicked for me. i guess i didn't have the framework for it because i didn't understand why or how that's supposed to help. joseph explains it so well and simply in his book that it pretty much blows my mind how so many people including myself have missed it for so long. after finishing joseph's book earlier today, i have already used his concept to reject a handful of habitual repetitive thought patterns that tried to kick into their usual loops tonight - and in order to reject them, i first had to notice them. i noticed them way more easily than i ever noticed them before. usually, i catch myself 10 minutes into a negative thought pattern with my mind chugging along while anxiety presses on my solar plexus. but for these, i caught them coming on. and it felt great to feel anxiety attempt to mount pressure and then suddenly evaporate on command. i don't expect my life to be suddenly perfect, but this is a brand new way to deal with unwelcome thoughts that will greatly enhance my quality of life and mental health

I feel the need to comment again here as I commented before the video was complete…you are 100% correct about information overload and how we lose the ability to hear our own selves…this I am guilty of. This talk also brought to the forefront of how I tend to hang on to emotions instead of letting them pass through…your wisdom in doing something creative at the time and taking the energy and creating with it was medicine for my soul…many blessings to you…you are such a beautiful light that has come at a perfect time in my life🙏💜🙏💜

Very true and a very practical lesson indeed. This happened to me also. And after listening to this, i think i could instantly relate with the solutions discussed , as it reminded me of a previous version of mine when i was not lost and when i was not overloading myself with social media and other things. It was just purely experiencing my own life and not looking around.
