Great collection - thank you for sharing such a detailed look! The thing I like about Sovereigns is that they were circulated as real money unlike modern bullion. I really love those shield back coins - just beautiful. I have a couple of Sovereigns but they are all modern QEII coins and the only shield back is the 2002 which I see in your collection. I will start watching for an older shield back! Collecting dates always motivates me - I am in the US so I collect 1/4oz Gold Eagles and I am always working to get all the dates. I guessed that NGC at MS62 but thought the PCGS was MS64 - pretty close!

You’ll pick it up because it has a T-Rex 🦖, reminds me of your origins. Seeing all your sovereign videos, I forgot about the saurus part of your channel name.

Very nice collection. Can you say specifically where you sourced your coins. An indication of price would also be interesting.
@dbut1017 күн бұрын
I agree. It would be nice to know whether these came as best value from a dealer, private sales, auctions, etc. It would seem either you have amazing luck in sourcing sovereigns or pay some premium to get such nice examples. Would definitely help viewers to set realistic expectations when building a collection. Thanks for the videos!

Great video! Amazing stack! I just brought my first half sov and plan to buy 1 a month! A video about safes and home storage would be cool. Cheers sir!
@SovereignSaurus18 күн бұрын
Hey, nice plan! I have covered the topic before but will put it on the list for an updated video. I don't store my gold at home as I think safe deposit boxes make the most sense, a lot of stackers disagree here for the old 'if you don't hold it you don't own it's reason. There are pros and cons to both ultimately
@MaTT.9518 күн бұрын
@ Yes interesting that you opt for the safe deposit box. I do prefer home storage in a euro graded safe. You must be in and out on the daily to grab the gold for the videos wouldn’t that be a risk also.

Was looking at a couple half for $625 not really sure the going rate they seem a bit up over spot but I do think they nicer coins then American gold currencys.
@MaTT.9517 күн бұрын
@@mattmatt6572 I think for you in the US you have to pay tax on them, I’m not quite sure. Here in the uk they are at a great price
@mattmatt657217 күн бұрын
Yeah been looking at them more is gold sovereigns at 685 looks like at current market rate 74 of that is to the premium. So not such a bad cost now just trying to decide if I could find nicer coin for that price lol it is fun shopping. I don't get charged taxxes on bullion in my state. Some they do.

Thanks for sharing your astonishing collection. One thing I noticed though is that in none of your videos (at least the ones I saw, which are many) you showed any sovereign with queen Elizabeth's third effigy (my favorite one), i.e. from the period of 1985 to 1997. Any reason for that?
@SovereignSaurus3 күн бұрын
It's a lovely portrait. The main reason because there are no bullion sovereigns issued with this portrait. There are proof coins and some of the early Britannia's though

Best wishes for the New Year, I dont have any Canada minted sovereigns. I am more receptive to half sovereigns now though, as such I've 12 of which 2 are victoria shield backs. My sovs are presented in flips set in A4 20 x 2" x 2". Just to keep me interested I've also been acquiring really nice 92% silver crowns, half crowns, florins and even a few shillings. Maybe some day I too will do a presentation to kick off a KZbin channel.

Do you buy now or wait for the drops?
@SovereignSaurus18 күн бұрын
It depends.... If I see something nice that's fairly priced I might buy when prices are higher. If there is a significant drop I might shop around and take the best deal.

I'm not really a fan of graded coins, but most of those coins I think would grade really high would be good to hear some stories of where you bought certain coins and the types of characters you've dealt with I'd be interested to know where each mints sovereigns were used? Was the majority from every mint shipped to the UK? Or were they used to trade with countries near where they were Minted? Which other coins were the main rival of the sovereign? I don't know any other youtube channels that really focus on the sovereigns usage

What weight in gold are you holding - not in the video but your total portfolio? When did you start investing? I've been cautious. Holding 15 ounces. Started 2024 when it was obvious this asset price was going to continue to rise. 15 Britannias.
@cbasdf642318 күн бұрын
Have you had any issues with copper spots on your gold? All my sovereigns are 150+ years old and still perfect but the 1oz britannia I bought two years ago is already spotting 😂
@carlosenriquesalas110217 күн бұрын
Which year is the Britannia you bought? From 2013 Britannia coins are 24 carat gold (which means pure gold), so in that case it's impossible to them to have any spot from other material.
@cbasdf642316 күн бұрын
@@carlosenriquesalas1102 It's a 2022 and I can assure you even 24 carat coins will tarnish if there are any base metals on the surface of the coin.

grading has changed a bit recently.. NGC are grading lower... so if you have an older graded coin.. say MS64/65 you could find a identical coin in same condition and it would grade at a MS62 .... I saw a coin for sale a while back PCGS MS63 .. that when removed and sent to NGC it was AU58 .... PCGS totally over graded it in the past .. it was never a mint state coin... If I were you I'd grade the rarer coins like 1916 for example .... NGC only though...
