The following comes from a mission statement that appeared in the inaugural issue of SPIN. It means as much to this current staff as it did to the original writers and editors.
A confession: SPIN is imperfect. It’s rough-edged, restless, insatiably curious. A little aggressive, a little cocky. Youthfully uncompromising, but maturely flexible. Romantic - definitely! Irreverent - sure! Unpredictable - yes. Very alive.

My father really liked having his coffee and listening to me play bass over the radio in the mornings. I wasn't very good but he didn't care. I grew up and we grew apart then he passed away. I started playing again with those memories as inspiration. But no matter how good I play, or what I'm playing, I play alone now. That's a super important moment kid.

Can relate. My dad had just gotten older n lost interest in music mostly, and jaded by 22 years of playing. I'm 32 now so there isn't anything I'm able to impress him with. If it is i haven't found it yet. Been looking for some of the more challenging things from 60s and 70s rock. This solo actually might be a good idea n shouldn't take too long to get down.

My dad turned 50 in January 2009. I played my first gig 3,5 years later. Then my band broke up, and I’ve been playing again only since 2021, which, still for now, means a rehearsal after a rehearsal, and I have no idea when we would be ready to play on stage so my beloved dad could see me playing for him again. He’s 64, and all fine. But he hasn’t been disappointed and crushed because of me for only about 4 years now.

i wish my dad was still alive for me to do this. he’d show me live shows of gilmour on stage and it made me dream of becoming a guitarist. 5 years of playing and it’s all because of my dad.
