Honestly some people don't like the new ranking system, but I really like it. I feel like it's easier to rank up. Even if you go like 3 and 3 in a series battle you'll still gain like 150 more points than you put in. Less frustrating than Splatoon 2 for sure. Also I love the movement for some reason. I feel so smooth and fast playing like n-zap or splash

I mean... sure, but not everyone is intended to rank up and I feel like we're gonna have the same problem as Splatoon 2. Too many people in X rank who really shouldn't be there. Ranks are supposed to determine your skill level, not be a hurdle for everyone.

I personally think the rank system is more refined right now and is more accurate to give you or take away points more closely compared to how well you did as an individual vs how the team did. You can still do well and if your team loses you'll get points for that.

I personally like it so I don’t have to grind every single mode and it just carries over but I can also see some people disliking it for that reason aswell cause it carries the same rank for all modes and some people aren’t good at every single mode so i can see someone disliking it in that aspect since you might get someone that’s great at clam blitz and not so great at rainmaker or etc

As a 96 main the 96 part was painfully relatable to watch. It doesn't have a sub and with Ink Vac (which IMO is only good with backliners) you just ask to get flanked.

Ink Vac is super bad. You're usually better off just using your main weapon. It stops working at higher ranks as people learn that they do not need to shoot you, but just get behind you since you cannot turn well (like the crab tank) and if you are close enough to absorb anything, you are close enough to be out-maneuvered. Ever since I have decided to use it as a meme sniper and use it from by backline highground position where it doesnt suck up anything, I have seen niche uses killing snipers and splatlings with it. Not sure that this is worth using instead of just holding off on. Every weapon that gets it is already good enough to just shoot the threat instead. tl:dr; even rollers can just run it over. It exists as a nerf to good weapons at high levels of play and a buff to difficult or unwieldy weapons at low levels of play.

@@WarningStrangerDanger It’s better used for pushes in RM and Clams especially and for holding space. You can swim with the vacuum out so it’s not a big deal if they try to get behind you and you should be using near teammates anyway. I think it’s pretty good

@@key81885 Unfortunately, if the weapons that get it are really out of position when the special ends, they will not survive long. If your teammates were able to keep you alive while you swim away with your special, you got lucky when you trusted them to, but it was a gamble. This is less of an issue with a team on a discord call, for sure, but for the vast majority of matches, it is going to have to be played non-verbally. In the scenario where they are helping the rainmaker avoid incoming damage, for example, your team's charger had to get off the highground nest, absorb shots and escort the player with the rainmaker, and pray that the second it is done they don't get mowed down. You now have a charger on lowground, near the enemy base, and spawns are always higher ground. This is a very risky play, instead of having this same charger player stay up on overwatch, sniping anyone trying to shoot the rainmaker carrier, and saving the special for when someone tries to waste their special to shoot you down. The only scenario where ink vac should be used on lowground like this is on the Tenta Brella. This is phenomenal kit synergy. Launching a shield and following it with the ink vac is an overwhelming amount of defense that can push for free. Compared to any other kit with it, this is easily a top tier ink vac scenario.

Tent kit synergy is perfect too. Interested to see if they give it to anything close range. Could be decent on roller or L3 for example

As someone who wants to get into competitive, how does one determine optimal gear load out for weapons, which weapons are best for certain maps and modes?

Understand that each kit IMPLIES how it should be used based on the sub and special, but depending on the map and objective, this premade game plan cooked into the kit may not be effective. Instead, focus more on the main weapon and where it likes to play from, then try to control those areas. If you are using the Octobrush, dont stand on your team's highground and expect to get as far as if you had gone on peripheral flanks into enemy territory. No matter the kit, these are just facts about the main weapon and you should play to its strengths. If you are using the Glooga Dulies, they will use the Splash Wall differently than the Squeezer does, because they are not accurate at range. They should instead use it to cut off walkways amd hallways or get cover from snipers. The Squeezer, however, can just go around turtling behind it on highground and can be a safe jump point for teammates.

That’s my problem right now. I’m struggling to find a good weapon. I like weapons that are up close and personal like the Sploosh or the Octobrush or the Luna but I like having supportive subs and specials like the beacon, mine, missiles, storm, etc.. I tried dapples with very little success.

IMO they seem to have ruined the 52 gal (useless special killer wail; special used to be booyah bomb, which is pretty broken in this game and would have made 52 gal viable; rng terrible) and 96 gal (no wall, sprinkler is useless; the special isn't that bad but most specials feel limited; rng terrible). I feel like 52 gal is still useable but nowhere near what it would be if it just had booyah bomb to compensate for the bad rng and to help with pushes. The killer wail is literally awful and is enough reason on its own to choose a different primary weapon like the squeezer, let alone the bad rng. Killer wail is so obviously the new (arguably worse) Stringray, which is a BACKLINE special. It is so awkward and unusual feeling to use killer wail with a front liner weapon. You get to still shoot while the killer wail is active, which makes it more frontline-y, but you can't really control it, and you don't get any invincibility so you just die while it's active anyway. In the end it's just not a good special, and it is not useful for the 52 gal. Sprinkler should be removed as a secondary weapon; it's a really cute idea but does essentially nothing. I feel like every special sucks in this game except for like 3 that are overpowered, which will inevitably shift people's choices for which weapons to use, and, therefore, the meta. I feel like, overall, specials in Splatoon 2 were more useful for pushes and urgent moments like saving the zone, which was hype. But now that's not really a thing unless you want to choose a weapon with a good special, again dictating the meta. Making comebacks and coming back from getting trapped in spawn is significantly harder in Splatoon 3 because of this. But I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts.
