Everyone should take up painting. It’s more than visual art, it’s therapy.

I think you should make your videos as long as you feel they need to be to get your points across and all different lengths so people can choose the length they can handle at that moment. I know for me there are times I'll choose videos by their length if I'm feeling pressed for time. Although you're probably right about the fact that many people get bored after 15 minutes. So no matter what you do, you can't please all the people all the time. Long or short, I love your videos, thanks for doing them!

I've been painting in oils for nearly 25 years and I've learnt stuff from watching this video. Very much enjoyed watching the painting develop and the dry humour in the narration. Another great video - you should be on the television.

Watching along, I had lots of different things I was going to say. Nevertheless, I've now forgotten about all of it. I will say that I've been painting along with you. Not doing the tree but rather a mountain landscape. Having you in the background was quite delightful. I never get to paint with other artists so I kinda felt as though you and I were painting together as silly as that may sound. You've been a great inspiration and you're techniques have served me well. So thank you for sharing your art with the world.

I discovered your videos about a month ago. I find your technique absolutely fascinating. I painted my first painting in a long time today using your method. I had difficulty with the sky, but pressed forward. I added more oil to the land and that unlocked the door. I was able to acheive results though somewhat clumsy in places. I credit the unsatisfactory spots to hurrying through and will take more time. I was, however pretty happy overall with the distant background and see where I need to improve. The process you demonstrate is remarkably freeing and the create spark is alive throughout the process. I love that. You inspire me and I suspect many to try harder. I know I will. Thank you for sharing your talent, your words and your shoulder. Its all marvelous and I will certainly be paying attention. Here's wishing you a happy holiday season and continued improvement with your health.

This was exactly what I needed tonight. Your tree skills become all the more apparent when I attempt my own. I enjoyed this very much, indeed. Excellent example of foreshortening, which I really needed. All the textures and contrast you achieved, was something I needed to see you do (yet again). A fantastic tree!! Thank you as always, Professor Sludge!

Don't worry about video length for an unknown audience. Paint what you decide without apology. Viewers can each decide how they watch - live or later to pause or skip ahead or bookmark for another day or rewatch from the 22 minute mark. You give a good range of information regarding paint application techniques, art theory, thought processes, guidance with explanations, positive & negative suggestions, and always encouragement to try it for ourselves... Aside from these mainly verbal contributions, the most important feature is being able to see what you are doing or refering to. Keep up all your efforts. Your painting process is fascinating.

Amazing! I love how your advice often is "don't trust your lying eyes" and paint they way something is in mood and tone. So much learning is unlearning and learning to see nature again, in a more interesting and varied way. Every video of yours is always educational.

Pareidolia is the human tendency to see familiar shapes in otherwise random patterns, just like the eye in your tree, bunny rabbits or wizards in clouds and so on. It's good to see another Davies tree; I'm always in awe of your patience in getting them to look 'right'. (but I still love your skies - and I am getting better at them!)

Thank you very much for another outstanding lesson on painting. This tree is magnificent and your teaching style is involving, clear and captivating. It's always astonishing how you can add expressive marks to the picture with just a few movements. Of course, this is all due to your talent and experience. I've always been keen on visual arts, and with your encouragemnt, I'm trying my hand at using brushes and paints. I keep repeating to myself: 1. "Think that you can do it" 2. "Don't think "clouds", their are just shapes" 3. "If it goes wrong, wipe it and try again" 4. "It's just a paintig" and thanks to you I'm having a lot of fun. In my opinion the longer the videos the more I learn. It's always entertaining to listen to your explanations and anecdotes. I can't wait to see the glazing session.

I am 52 minutes in and you have inspired me so much. I paused 5 times just in my house cleaning things and my pondering about life in detail. Life a tree I find myself telling myself again to just stand firm and still letting the wind blow through me like leaves on a tree, knowing where my roots are and travel to water in my soul. I’ve learned about my journey in life and in painting. Thankful for you in so many levels in my Spirit. Call it the Holy Spirit or just another human being connection that I personally needed today. Many may just watch and listen but I tend to feel in my inner soul. God bless you🙏🏻💜

I prefer long I think but I have to confess I am guilty of maybe not even clicking off but turning off and going to be a tree painting master. Your methods are amazing. Your enunciation (if that's the word) of what's going on in your head is very engaging. I think anyone who paints watching this has felt the pain of some of these simple decisions that you clearly have as well and brush it aside like a master. You worry far too much about being in the way. You do you. I think if we all could get a Christmas wish is for you to do what I'm sure is the last thing thing you want to do. Set up a few cameras with proper lighting and have an editor do the work to make it pretty. The work you do as I hope you know is deserving of a larger audience here. You've inspired a new business idea for me, thank you - I'll let you know how it turns out peace.
