I haven't been to Barraba for 35 odd years, but it was lovely back then. A nice little country town. When it comes to food in little country towns, you have to remember, if the food isn't good, the establishment doesn't survive. Therefore, if you stop in a little country town for food, you know it's going to be good. I'm not surprised your lunch was good. If you're ever out in Orange again, I highly recommend the little Chinese takeaway around the corner from me. Arguably THE best Dim Sims I've ever had. Way better than anything I've had in Sydney even. Like you, I absolutely love Dim Sims!

@2aussie the one around the corner is The Golden Sun. The Dim Sims are incredible. It's behind Maccas. Chopsticks on the main drag does a good lunchtime special. The curried chicken and rice was good. It depends on what I want as to where I go. Some places do awesome some things, but not so good other things. Most places in town are pretty good. In my opinion, Chopsticks does the best beef in blackbean. I love their special fried rice too. Across the road at the dumpling house, they do an awesome pad thai, and their deep fried won tons are out of this world. They also do an awesome combination chow mein. The Golden Sun does great chow mein and a really good omelette. The gravy is delicious. If you are in town, I'd avoid the Wing Wah. I've had food from there 3 times now and it was like eating lukewarm snot.

There are some great country Chinese restaurants. Bit of City bias in some comments. Have had some great meals at Chinese places in Young, Dubbo, Gunnedah, Lithgow, Orange etc.. Did a NSW tour around 2007 and stayed at a cabin in Dorrigo after searching for a motel which were all booked. It was really foggy and 2 Aussie’s looks like the Hilton compared. My GF made me put a chair up against the door 😅😅
