As someone who remembers when the GMMK Pro and some of the early plate mounted gasket Aluminum boards from Keychron came out, I must say I am immensely happy to see how much better sub $200 keyboards have gotten since then. GMMK Pro had two things going: ISO support before any other vendors and then the 7*% layout with four buttons on the side (page down, page up and delete where it should always be next to ISO enter edge). I also have a Keychron Q1 and it's a lot better experience to work with and open. The Q1 also comes with decent stabilizers and QMK preinstalled. However the missing one critical side key is still a deal breaker for me: the Q3 is a very good workaround though.
@ToyKeeper Жыл бұрын
That missing key is important, no? I've been really happy with a Keychron Q65, which is a proper 65% design (including the 4 right-side keys) plus 4 extra keys and a knob on the left side, so I call it a "69%" layout. It's really nice.

@@ToyKeeper That's interesting. I wish Keychron would extend that to the Q1 series as well because the Q65 doesn't have function keys (which is not as critical but still very annoying thing for me). Also I don't see if Q65 has ISO variant which is vital for me. Basically the endgame 75% layout for me from Keychron would be something like K2 but for Q series.

I love mine. I got it for like $80 on Black Friday last year and after modding it, it has the poppy sound I was after. Looks nice and feels great. I honestly don't even mind the garbage gaskets provide no flex. The firmness is nice. I wouldn't buy another for full price, though. Especially since you NEED to get better stabs on it and even the GSV2 isn't great because it can so easily be overlubed with the smallest amount of lube. But definitely on a good sale.

Barebones there is only a $50 difference though between the two. I think the included software and what many would consider a better look for the GMMK Pro makes up for the cost. Also, when it comes to average consumers the GMMK Pro is likely going to be on their radar. Places like Best Buy have these keyboards with their own little booth next to their other gaming boards but none of their other gaming boards have this look, and I think that has a lot to do with what's driving sales. They are in right in the face of consumers offering a VERY good looking product that doesn't require them to download GMK and install custom firmware and the like to change things up.

Modded both heavily and with third-party gaskets, Durock v2 stabs with holee mod, AVXWorks' FR4 plates, StupidFish custom foams, set them up with lubed Gateron Oil King and Everglide Aqua King linear switches, slapped on a couple of sets of GMK keycaps and they are both top notch now in terms of typing feel and sound. Yes, all this cost a lot and required a lot of effort, but I enjoyed the tinkering (it was during the pandemic lockdowns, so gave me something to do). Also, as the video points out, there wasn't much choice in the 75% keyboard market back then if you wanted to avoid group buys and just wanted something reliably in stock. Nice to see those Flex Kits available now to make some of this modding work simpler.

I have a GMMK Pro that I bought barebones two years ago - performance out of the box was rather frustrating for my 1st custom keyboard. The stabilisers were atrocious and my space bar didn't depress at all, so I replaced the stock stabs with Durock V2s and now they work like a dream. I also replaced the plate with an FR4 Plate by AVX Works, which has given it a decent amount of flex, whilst still giving room for some dampening. I've stuck different gaskets around the case, and have also done the tape mod. Switches are self-lubed Gateron yellows. After all this the sound is actually quite deep and thocky, although I've no doubt that I could have the same experience or better for much less money and faff nowadays. It's been a fun introduction into the keyboard hobby, as there just weren't that many accessible options back then. I'm currently looking into buying stuff again as my wife now wants her own after using mine and there is so much more choice for a decent keeb without going mad on cost.

I just built an Epomaker TH80 Pro with some Akko Creamy Yellow V3 Pro switches and some Cheap XVX keycaps. It cost me about $85 (because of Black Friday sales), and an hour of my time to carefully assemble it (I've never built a keyboard before). Now I will admit that the plate is made of Steel, so it has no flex. Also I don't really know 'How a Keyboard is supposed to Sound'... Despite listening to countless Keyboard videos. Still it sounds pretty good to me. The switches are smooth and the stabilizers are solid and don't rattle. The keycaps are supposed to be 'PBT' but they're fairly thin (I bought them because they had 'shine through' lettering on the 'south side' so I thought they'd work well with the boards south facing LEDs). Here's the bottom line: I'm on an extremely tight budget! I cannot afford to spend even $200 on a Keychron Q1, let alone $400+ on a GMMK Pro. I had to wait around for months, to get the Black Friday deals. So I'm just going to have to live with what I can afford.

I was, and still am, against buying the gmmk boards. But I did it because it was available. I took my chances and it ended up being great. I have only the foam between the plate and pcb and none in the case, I used the softest of the gaskets. I taped any possible contact areas between the top and bottom cases. I put 3 layers of the tape mod. And I put some sound deadening in my space bar to give it some heft. And I’ll tell you what. I think Hipyo would be really impressed with it. So i have had a gmmk pro since they came out with it originally. I have it modded with durock v2 stabs, kailh cream switches, tape mod, better foam, and kyrtox 205 lubed. It's been a great keyboard to mess around with and type with but since then I have picked up a wooting 60he and have had it since august of 2022. I have lubed and tape modded it and it feels great for the performance that I am getting out of it. Most recently, I have picked up the drunkdeer a75 because I missed the layout of the gmmk pro but wanted to keep the performance of the wooting. So far out of the box the a75 has been amazing. Out of the box it sounds amazing and probably perfect for most people. So far I have only done a tape mod and better foam. My only complaints with this keyboard is the case. It is have to mod because it's not held together with screws but with tabs. Also, the case feels cheap (would use some extra weight to it). Other than that it is a great keyboard especially for the price. It is readily available on amazon and it's cheaper than the other two. conclusion: These three keyboards have their pros and cons. Not one keyboard is better than the other. It all comes down to what you are looking for in a keyboard. I would say, if you are looking for a keyboard that you can fully mod and customize then I would say go with a gmmk pro or the cheaper alternatives. If you are looking for the best performance keyboard than without a doubt the wooting is the way to go. If you want a keyboard that is an all around keyboard then the drunkdeer a75 is an amazing keyboard. I know these keyboards have a lot of cons when it comes to price and wait time, but I am just giving some information on the keyboards themselves. Hope this helps :) feel free to ask me any questions. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to keyboards but I will try to help the best I can.

I have 3 KDBfans boards. I they all sound amazing. I have a D60Lite with foam and Durock T1 switches in them. I also have 2 Tofu60 2.0s. One is the regular one with all the foam but he one that goes on top of the plate, Baby Kangaroos switches, Durock V2 stabs, and a carbon fiber plate, gasket mounted. The other is the WLK version with all the foam and but the top, Durock T1 switches and Durock V2 stabs, a poly plate and of course, everything that should be lubed, is. Same with mods. All the stabs sound and feel great. The D60Lite sounds like bubble wrap being popped. It's great. The Kangaroos on a carbon fiber plate have a really poppy, clacky sound and feel. The other one sounds and feels a lot like the D60Lite (which was the point) but better. I bit more premium. After all costs, I would say the latest (the Durock Tofu) was about $300 plus or so after all was said and done. Switches were like $30, caps were like $30, artisan esc key was $15, the kit was $215ish, and the the stabs were like $20. Then there was the cable. Not yet done but that will be about $30 when finished. I love them all. I also have a Skyloon build and some modded Ducky boards.

I just baught this keyboard for £179 from £300 do you think I made the right choise? All the other boards you featured in this video for me where only like £20 cheaper or more than the GMMK pro on the discount I got

I got a GMK Pro a little over a year ago and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Stripped a screw with little to no effort when trying to disassemble it, had them replace it, new one came in with a sticky stabalizers and a even more broken screws a bunch of weird, small issues. Not worth it, even when you mod it, it still doesn't sound good.

I wish other pre-built options has ISO support. GMMK does and also offer international keycaps options as well.

I got mine 2 years ago at a discount, at the time it was a good option compared to other keyboards, also I was looking for something decent in ISO layout, RGB and a knob :D. With the following mods it sounds so nice: Aluminium Switch Plate || Tempest Tape Mod (factory foams removed) || PE Foam Mod || O-ring mod between plates for a bit more flex and softer sound || Gateron Milky Yellow switches lubed with Krytox GPL 205G0 || Smokey Durock Stabilisers with G-Lube + Holee Mod || Poron foam under large keys and stabilisers || Glorious PBT Double shot white keycaps

As a note bare bones now I got the gmmk 2 barebones 96% for 80 bucks plus kailh box whites for 40, with my own keycaps for 60. It sounds amazing and only cost me 180 total. Not bad imo. This is for the GMMK 2 though.

I bought one on release as my first board, hated it but have just continuously put work and money into it over a couple years to the point where the only stock piece left is the PCB. I got different foam, flex kit, changed it from black to white, soldered a new rotary encoder on, a bunch of different switches(WS morandi and KS-3 Gateron Milky Yellows are my favorites), FR4 plate and durock V2 stabilizers. And now it is by far my favorite board despite trying to find something better for awhile. I actually don't regret my purchase but it also wasn't a good value and the stock parts are not great.

I even bought new metal hex head screws for the case because I stripped all of the stock ones lol

Ever since the gmmk pro, many 75% knob keyboards have appeared, from the super budget ones like the feker ik75, to amazing midrange options like the monsgeek M1/M1W and keychron Q1/Q1 pro. Personally, I'm picky and was looking for a wireless, gasket mounted 75% keyboard and considered either the keychron Q1 pro or monsgeek M1W. Found an M1W kit for a great value, threw on akko cs jelly blacks, some cotton and included foam for dampening and used some cheap but nice looking keycaps and I've built a board that I previously could only dream of

I bought the prebuilt on black friday for dirt cheap knowing what I was getting into and I’ve got a couple other modded keyboards but the GMMK Pro topped it came in with low expectations and a massive project ahead but after testing it out I’ve got 0 complaints other than the screws and one of the rubber feet came off in one corner but that was from my own fault.. But the stabs weren’t sticky and didn’t ping and honestly sounded and felt a lot better than my other boards with Durock V2’s the switches were already pre-lubed and were pretty consistent with all of them.. Maybe I lucked out on it? Who knows. Howeve, I did switch out the switches to put in Gateron Oil Kings and man.. it became a whole different beast on its own and is now my daily driver. Planning on maybe switching out the plate for brass but still unsure about that decision the only mods I’ve done to the GMMK Pro was the PE foam mod and triple layer the gasket foam. I wouldn’t say this boards for everyone considering the price point it’s listed but I wouldn’t say it was the most regretted purchase I’ve made. Overall I’m extremely impressed with how my board’s build quality came.

Does it make sense for a barebones version in late 2024 for about 90usd? i have very limited options, so it's this or a epomaker, that i've seen it's pretty hated by their own community :/

I modified my RK98 for 120 dollars total (including the KB for price already), and that had way more to offer to me than what this gives. I had given it GK gammakay pegasus switches and shine through PBT keycaps and it works like a dream for me after moving from membrane

was my starter board but my main issue is that whatever i do it sounds muted and unstatisfying. so i just use it as a gaming driver now

Got this barebones for like $60 last year on Black Friday. Only complaint I have is the awful stabs, they’re sticky af had to replace them with Durocks. Might get the flex kit when it goes on sale.

the only reason i got mine is because someone on eBay was selling there's for 100 bucks because there was one broken switch... The pin was bent, it worked fine.

After wanting to try out custom keyboards, I got the GMMK Pro at release. Working on it has made by buy and enjoy the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% (good video on that btw). I learned to appreciate keyboards, but I only have time to really put in the switches or keycaps I want, so buying a decent base keyboard and switching out the minor stuff tunes it perfectly for me.

Hey Hipyo, I was looking to get a 75% keyboard with a knob, but can't seem to find any with a small/thin edge on them, do you have any recommendations? Also good job Nola :)

I've looked through your channel and as far as I could tell you haven't reviewed any Ducky keyboards. Is there a specific reason for that? I've seen them recommended and I even got one for myself but my experience with mechanical keyboards is limited.
@ANg-yz1zl Жыл бұрын
Get the new version of Monsgeek M1W ($140) if you just want a fully pre-build keyboard with little (tape mod and force break mod) or no mod. Because it fixes almost all the problems with M1. The only downside it is not VIA software supported.

Hipyo, I picked up a GMMK PRO PREBUILT on Black Friday sale for $244 and a $30 gift card from a friend, would you say this makes the GMMK Pro worth it now? I don’t want to feel like I wasted my money, should I return it and get something else?

Hey Hipyo! I don't know if that's a topic that would interests you at all but I'll shoot my shot anyways... I'm french canadian (from Québec) and I've researched quite a lot to find a way to get an ISO layout mechanical keyboard with French canadian keycaps... It's quasi-impossible. I was wondering if you had any suggestions?

I bought a gmmk pro way back when it first released. The keyboard market was a lot different back then with way less options. I have since swapped the stabs, added the flex kit and it's a fine keyboard, but if I was shopping today I would get something else most likely.

I decided for Glorius because I had 2 keyboards of the Keychron brand and in terms of quality they were terrible, the leds started to get damaged after 8 months of use and I am very careful with things.

The problem I’m finding is there aren’t many DIY boards in the Tenkeyless style (I need my function keys, drives me crazy thinking how many games require function keys and yet so many DIY boards are 60% (no function keys)) Also, if you find a Tenkeyless board, it comes without any special features like other boards have (like how this one has the knob to adjust volume from the board) and also is usually made of plastic. I just don’t know. Is there any chance you could do a video with the different Tenkeyless boards?
