I think your conclusion here is really on point, as somebody that's brand new to "build-your-own" keyboards and has never seen your channel before. Having to manually solder my own switches onto some ultra high end board with 1 year plus waiting times on group buys for products with no warranties or guarantees SUCKS. This is absolutely the "close enough" solution that gets me a high end kit with the minimum amount of B.S. to work through to get to an end result that looks, feels, and sounds nice. I'm sure there will be some aftermarket pieces I can buy later on to shore up some of the minor shortcomings of this board, if I want to continue investing in this one instead of going down the rabbit hole of having a dozen different keebs floating around my closet. I'll be going from a pretty old Ducky with cherry mx reds to this new GMMK Pro with Alpaca Linears, can't wait for my board to ship!

Also, the fact that these are due to be 'in stock' is a big, big thing. The other keebs that he mentioned are out of stock for months at a time and the fact that a newbie has to luck into even being able to pick up a decent board when they first begin is a bit of a joke. @@nomad182 entry boards by actual companies are usually in stock, if youre referring to all those group buys, then its kind of odd you would call it a bit of a joke as those are done by individual people with their own design and they are the ones communicating with factories to manufacture limited quantities so that quality can be assured. Once its done its done unless there is enough popularity and they feel that they can do a round 2 or 3

I personally don't think it woudl effect me, I can't remember ever using the right half of my right shift. And being and iso user my left hand works well with the 1.25 (if im not mistaken= left shift, I couldn't see why a 2x1.25 would be problematic.

I have a bigger issue with the alt, fn, ctrl caps on the right of the spacebar tho. It's hard enough to find even a basic iso-de keycap set for cheap, you could probably forget getting these 3 in the extra small size.

@@SirPreston913 They are definitely a tactile switch you can feel compared to browns. Me personally I lubed them well to tone down the tactility. But I only got to use it for a limited use. Since my piece of shit Drop board that I bought died on me. Still kinda salty about that. That's why I am happy GMK is doing this.

I been looking at a lot of different keyboards and future ideas. Having seen a lot of different channels look at this board I was not shocked to find it was only here that there was no ISO variant. This is why I'm such a fan of Brain and this channel, not only is he a great presenter it is the scripting and composure of these videos that leave so many others far behind. If you're just now getting into customs, this is THE one to get. It doesn't look like it does anything spectacular, but overall its just a solid ass board to get. Even stock it sounds pretty good, and with some modification it has the potential to sound and feel amazing. What a great time to be getting into this hobby.

Great review! Just what I needed to know. As someone who isn't really interested in going deep down the rabbit hole of enthusiast keyboards and swapping boards all the time this one ticked all the boxes to make it pretty much perfect for me. Downsizing to 75% layout ✅ Being able to mod this a little if need be (got some durock stabs ready) ✅ Hotswap was a must so I can change out switches without getting a whole new board like I currently have to do ✅ Wanted to be able to retain my RGB lightning ✅ Wanted a knob or wheel for my volume like "gaming" keyboards tend to have without all the ugly and cheapo gamery trappings that come with them ✅ I didn't really see anything else out there with this combo of price point and particular feature set I had in mind while researching so I'm pretty excited to get my hands on it when it's time to complete the purchase :D Not sure what keycaps to get yet though. The GBPT caps don't look too great to me so I'll have to search around a little more.

I got the pre-order in last year, and like you said, I think it hits the sweet spot for me. My first mech was a Corsair Stealth, completely stock. My second (and current) is a Glorious TKL with stock red switches and (to me) a nice set of Matrix keycaps. So the GMMK Pro will be my first mostly-custom build, with lubed and filmed switches and aftermarket stabs, and I'm excited! I've got other hobbies and so I don't see myself waiting around for most of a year to get a drop, or paying tons of money, and so for what you get with the Pro, I think it's a great first step into custom keyboards. Kudos to Glorious for bringing the value.

Great review. Your reviews and personal keyboard preferences are in sync with my price range. I value that very much. Other youtubers come off like snobs. Thanks for keeping it real. I'm pre-ordering this one. Having some of the Glorious products, I'm compelled by the ecosystem they are building for their peripherals. One suggestion to GMMK: tailor packages that would be easy to add. Example, a slightly discounted 1:1 batch of Holy Pandas for this kit.

I'd love to get a new keyboard 3-4 times a year, I'd love to own expensive and rare GMK keycaps, I'd love to own custom cables with Lemo connectors (the real ones not the aliexpress knock off ones)... sadly, my income wouldn't allow this. This offering from Glorious is really tempting for me as it checks most of the boxes I'm looking for in a keyboard. I think I'll get one of these in silver. Interesting video! I would love to have this kind of keyboard but with Ducky like features so I can swap caps lock with fn and still use IJKL for arrow keys and such. I really hope something like that will come in the future!
