For me, the absolute most cringe thing Zegler said was how the actor that played the prince could have all his scenes cut and "that's Hollywood, baby!" with a big smile on her face. Does she even realize how awful that is to say about her co-star? I know a lot of Hollywood celebs are jerks, but she takes it to a whole new level.

What makes it even more ironic is that Snowwhite and the Huntsman already told the modernized female empowerment story about a confident Snowwhite fighting the evil queen for the throne, and despite the movie's and the lead actress' flaws it did a pretty decent job at doing this and was an enjoyable movie. Any attempt to go into the same direction while still trying to sell it to the audience as a live action remake of a goofy cartoon from the 1930ties and insisting to remove both of the two titular story elements (the dwarfs and the female lead character who is literally named after her skin complexion) is bound to be worse. It's just trying to push a square peg into a round hole. Literally no one needs that kind of Snowwhite remake now, because any new spin on the story that might be worth telling has already been told.

Whenever a new Disney remake drops, HOARDS of angry reviewers and mockers go ham ripping it to shreds, repeating the same tired "Why remake it?" and "Disney has no new ideas!" comments they've been throwing around since Disney's first mainstream live action remakes 10 years ago. The pre-release announcement is just the beginning. This is going to be a very popular topic for a solid 2 weeks after release, and if DW gets the movie out before or shortly after Disney's movie, they'll have a good chance at riding that wave. I just hope it's *actually* good and not just technically superior to the VERY low bar Disney's remake will set.

The especially stupid part about the Dwarfs thing is that German fairytales were based on reality. There was a huge mining boom in Germany / the HRE after 1550. Since mine shafts were hewn from hand and thus rather tiny back then, the people working in them needed to be as small as possible, too. Since Luther had demanded that children, esp boys, should go to school so they can read the Bible, princes started to forbid the use of children in mines. Which led to mine owners hiring the smallest Italian people they could find and bringing them north. So in real life we got tiny people digging for metals, dressed in outlandish garb, keeping to themselves, speaking a strange tongue, and wearing Frigian hats stuffed with cloth as quasi helmets to soften the blow from small rocks falling on their heads while digging. I watched the original with my little kids on my Plex server. They loved it. They cheered for Grumpy when he came around. They caught the subtle signal that he wanted a kiss too. They were fascinated by the animals and art. The Queen was legitimately scary. The animation was art and the story was timeless.

The original Disney is a true work of art. Breathtaking and yet so accessible. I remember seeing it as a kid in the cinema in the 80s - I was blown away! The other film I loved at the time was Mad Max. I learned that sheer quality was the thing, able to transmogrify almost anything, no matter the subject matter.

The Sound of Freedom movie was made on a $15M budget but grossed over $200M in ticket sales while Indy 5 was a dismal failure and lost $$ for Disney. Now I doubt Disney is going ahead with their version with their originally intended super-woke plan considering how badly the public has reacted. It's going to be rewritten & and revised because this is Not a hill Bob Iger wants to die on. Having said that, I still intend to skip the Disney version in favor of the DW+ Snow White because, like Drinker, I want to see the underdog with a good heart succeed. Now does that mean I'd ever approve of Jeremy Boreing and his company doing a lazy, sloppy, hastily slapped together job? Of course not! I think that the reason even "The Little Mermaid" didn't approach that level of toxicity and hate was because the lead actress, Halle Bailey, loved the original movie, and the studio kept the story close to the 1989 classic. Jodi Benson, the original Ariel, made a cameo in the movie and was very supportive of Bailey all throughout. On the other hand, the Snow White remake feels like an absolute middle finger to the 1937 classic, and Rachel Zegler and most of the crew seem to be going out of their way to antagonize the fans.

Jodi Benson is in Disney's pocket, so of course she's going to say she supports unnecessary changes to the movie. As a pale a.f. redhead who grew up with Ariel as my princess and who, as an actress, imagined playing her some day, it sucked seeing the only princess I ever saw myself in given to someone else who looks nothing like Ariel. And, before morons scream "racist," I am all for seeing original princesses made for representation, and I would be just as mad seeing princesses who were originally people of color changed. But, as a redhead who grew up being made fun of for my pale skin and hair color, it isn't cool to take away one of the few characters that is beloved by many who represents us. No one would have had an issue with Bailey playing an original princess, but she was not Ariel. And Rachel is not Snow White. I loathe Emma Watson as Belle as well, because she is not a good actress or singer. One should both look like the character they're playing and be a good actress (and singer, if the movie is a musical).

Exactly what i was thinking the other day. I never really appreciated what i was seeing as a child, i took it for granted. To a certain extent those films were made for adults as much or more than kids. Like actual family entertainment. And it's more impressive when you realize what a huge leap over the previous animated films it was, it was not only much higher quality, but it was far longer, a full length film, which was a huge gamble. They tried something that had never been done and invested a huge amount of work into it. The later films were still impressive, but at least then they knew that it worked and there was an audience. Before this animated films were always shorts that were meant to be featured before the main feature and in the intermissions, like the Looney Tunes shorts (which were really intended for adult audiences).

Brett Cooper is incredibly popular(which will probably add to the interest of the film) and was an actress for a time when she was younger, so it's not like they're just throwing her in there because she's popular. She actually has a clue what she's doing. I'm not suggesting it'll be an elite level performance, but I'm confident it will be exactly in line with the tone of the film. She has all the traits you'd want. She's feminine, nice to look at and doesn't act like an entitled clown. I'm not really interested because it's not my thing, but I hope it does well and I believe it will.

The movie studio "The Asylum" is famous for creating knock-offs of mainstream movies to make a quick buck. But it is interesting someone is using a similar business model, only to create movies that are closer to the source material than the big-budget studios. This will be worth keeping a close eye on. If they make it work, then this may be a new rise in studios using the "Asylum Model" to make movies with more directorial control and less corporate interference to make a purer product.

The original animated Snow White is simply a masterpiece of story telling, movie making, and creative genius. Even more modern animation doesn't always exceed what this film did. Remember, back then it was all hand drawn, and no "best practices" existed. It was Walt Disney's vision and dedication to excellence that pours out of the screen. I'm happy that some people are giving the story and movie legacy the respect that it deserves. The especially stupid part about the Dwarfs thing is that German fairytales were based on reality. There was a huge mining boom in Germany / the HRE after 1550. Disney's Snow White looks like it never aged; a testament to how traditional animation can hold up if given a modest budget. Hell, even the Flintstones and Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? aged well in comparison to a lot of the most recent modern stuff, and they were made on essentially shoe-string budgets. I'm all in favor of Brett's rendition being successful. If anything else, just to show Hollywood that respecting the source material and honoring the past will get you farther than trying to tear it down. Given the state they're in, they're very much close to Croaking at this point.

I don't know about "never aged", it held up well but it's still obviously dated animation. And a big part of why it still looks modern is that Disney used that same artistic style in most of their later films, just advanced a bit, so Snow White looks visually similar. Until they got into the 90s and 2000s and started experimenting with more minimalistic and "modern" styles, which were okay but definitely date the film to the era. Like their Pocahontas phase, and the Emporers New Groove and Hercules. They all look like older films now because they went for the "modern" look that invariably looks outdated in a few years. Same problem with American cars, in particular. They have this way of making new cars that just look silly in ten years. I'm sure that's intentional, planned osolescence. But an older European car still usually looks pretty good. A 2012 Camaro? Not so much. A 1960s car is just timeless usually.

I also hope this succeeds. It has been my query in many posts for ages now: Why would Hollywood tell 60-80 percent of their audience that they DON'T want their money? The pandering films never work. China hated Mulan; Americans hated The Little Mermaid and hate Snow White; neither men nor women are flocking to the new Marvel/Star Wars female pandering universe. We want movies based on other media to go back to being FAITHFUL to the source material. If they want modern adaptations, okay, change the setting to a modern location (Snow White, in NEW YORK!). If they want more diversity, tell different stories (Where are the stories based on Indian, Japanese, Egyptian, etc. legends and fairy tales?). But they need to stop. The irony about Ms. Zegler's misplaced distress about the Snow White lead she's starring in, that she could have focused on a true outrage, rather than aim for the timeless story itself. The tale of the original voice actress, Adriana Caselotti. She was paid almost nothing for her iconic role, both then, and for decades. She wasn't even invited to the red carpet screening, for the same reason the creator of Alf, didn't want people to know that it was not an alien, but a human puppet hand. Would ruin the illusion of the real life Snow White. And Walt Disney informally black-listed her, from ever appearing anywhere else, because her iconic voice might also "ruin the illusion" of Snow White. She got paid the equivalent of maybe a months salary, despite Snow White's resounding success.

She is pushing the progressive MarySue girlboss idea for all she is worth, maybe because she really thinks that way, or maybe because she thinks it is what the bosses of Hollywood want, but she hasn't realized that considering how visible she is as an actress she should also pay attention to the audiences who, in the end, are the ones who decide about her career. Brett Cooper is a great choice to play Snow White. Thank God for The Daily Wire. Their CEO, Jeremy, is not just hilarious; he’s a bold and brilliant badass, and I wish him nothing but the best. The way I see it, Disney is in a very similar position to the one it was in back in the early 2000's. It wasn't worried about alienating its audience because competition in the realm of animation/children's entertainment had been fairly limited. Nowadays, while other large animation studios exist, the financial success and level of quality of their animated films varies wildly, and live-action children's films are almost non-existent outside of Disney. The Daily Wire is tapping into that market, directly challenging Disney as they do so. In the late 90's and early 2000's, the challenger was DreamWorks, specifcially with the release of Antz one month before the release of A Bug's Life, and Shrek, which followed the Disney formula of adapting an existing story that was a derivative of the fairytale gente to begin with, and then developing it further into a full-on satire of the 'classic Disney film'. DreamWorks has since backed off from antagonizing Disney in such a way, but back in the day, they posed a genuine concern for Disney, more specifically Disney Animation Studios. Disney Animation Studios was financially struggling at the time and had turned to releasing films of middling quality and/or commercial success alongside direct-to-DVD sequels of their most popular films. The DVD sequels have since morphed into live-action remakes, and while the field of animation has become more crowded, Disney once again has a weakness that is to be exploited, which is precisely what the Daily Wire is doing. I've loved the Disney Princesses since I was a little girl, and Snow White in particular holds a very special place in my heart. More importantly, her movie transformed the landscape of film and animation (particularly in the use of cels as a medium) and without her, the Disney empire would not be where it is today, which is why it has been so disheartening to see how they've torn her apart. The Daily Wire certainly has a high bar to clear, and while their version of Snow White won't make much of an impact on film as an art, I think it will mark a shift in film as a market, opening up Hollywood to even further humiliation at the hands of smaller creators and the disastisfied customers who choose to support them instead.

Thank you for bringing this movie to my attention, probably wouldn't have heard of it otherwise 🤗 I'm German and Grimm's fairlytales were an integral part of my childhood. Not the Disney movies mind you, but various children's books and old ass TV adaptations. And I agree with you and the actress - these stories are meant to teach timeless lessons and provide an escape from reality...as they did for the people who started telling them hundreds of years ago ❤ I don't like how Disney is making these people out to have been morally below us modern folks. I like to think that stories can connect us through time and space, and they give us the opportunity to learn from the struggles of those who came before us.

Disney might be out-Disney'd. Making Snow White true to the fairy tale was how Disney rose to fame. There were other versions at the time that tried to be friendly to "modern audiences" but Disney beat them by being truer to the original and respecting the source material.

If you think about it, it actually COULD dramatically outperform Disney, based on the fact that Disney's will probably be a box office nightmare that loses tens of millions of dollars, and Dailywire already has over a million active, paying subscribers, so they're definitely not going to lose money on it... Honestly, I think the thing that's going to undermine Bentkey's version is I doubt they're going to go for a theatrical release. They'll probably just release it on their streaming platform. If Daily Wire still puts their version out next year, hopefully it'll be with the absolute cancellation of Disney's version (and not Disney taking advantage of not having any competition with the delay).
