Yes indeed. There are many remote locations in Alaska that would have no fuel at all if not for airplanes like this delivering it.

Jeez, that's too bad about this vintage WWII era transport and especially the crew that perished in the crash. Thanks for sharing. A little historic fact: all Douglas C-54D Skymasters were built during WWII and at the Douglas-Chicago plant at Park Ridge, IL. This facility was demolished in the mid 1960s. It existed at what's now the far northeast section of Chicago's O'Hare Field.
