There are two types of Federal involvement in the big cities right now: Operation Legend and Operation Diligent Valor. Operation Legend is in response to the increase in shootings over the past 3 months. This is increased FBI, ATF, and DEA, and US Marshals involvement in local LEO to provide support. Operation Diligent Valor is response to the increased rioting and destruction around federal property such as the Mark Hatfield Federal Courthouse (Portland) and historic statues. This is an increase of federal agents such as FPS, ICE, CBP and US Marshals at those locations. The debate, well argument, is between whether the Federal agencies have any authority to operate in the cities and states that the protests, or riots, are occurring. They do, but a lot of people are claiming it is some sort of "Goon Squad" or "Trump's Gestapo" sent in to shut down "protests". I've seen a lot of video on twitter (KZbin is censoring it) and after midnight or so, a lot of violent people start breaking down barriers around the courthouse in Portland to try to get inside. Mortar pyrotechnics are being shot at federal agents on federal property and fires are routinely started. Once the barriers are breached, the Feds come out, grab a bunch of people who are within the barriers then retreat. There are reports of two individuals who were detain and then released while around the courthouse but not on federal property. The level of propaganda and overt deception is overwhelming but watching Governor Wheeler go to the courthouse a few nights ago while this was going on, ignore the felonies, leave, then declare a riot 30 minutes later is kinda strange.

@@512TheWolf512 More likely, the CCP, if you want to blame external powers for any of it. If you think about it, this year would be a master stroke for Winnie the Pooh (Xi Jinping), if in fact it was planned beforehand. (Not saying that it was--I don't know that.) First, a pandemic engendered in China allowed to spread worldwide, which weakens mostly societies that value the common people (which the CCP does not). Then, a Marxist insurrection in the US started under the umbrella of protests about the death of a criminal at the hands of one bad cop. (That I'm sure had been in planning since 2017 at least, waiting for an opportunity.) And it's an election year, when everything is about politics and not facts, and when politicians become deer in the headlights about anything that might cost them votes. Brilliant! Machiavelli and Nietzsche smile and nod from beyond. Nothing anyone says can be trusted; and where there's a breakdown of trust, nothing good can be accomplished. Our system of government is effectively paralyzed. China may have just accelerated its domination timetable by years. Did they help fund the current insurrection on our streets? I don't know. But would you be surprised if they did? If there was a rebellion underway in, say, Iran, don't you think we'd want to help it along? There's definitely a bigger picture here. This is one scenario I find credible.

2:15 I know people, personally, that went on unemployment, who have gotten checks larger than 7k. I got a PPP loan for 2.1k and chose to continue working independently. On the one hand, I'm a little jealous because they are getting paid more to not work. I have literally broken two cars and worked at 40-60% my full number of hours since the initial "14 days to slow the spread"/lockdown. Flying very close to the ground, but I have paid every bill, every rent payment, insurance, utility, etc. on time, every time. I'm sure New York is more expensive, but if these people took the $600+/wk unemployment bailout, I really do not understand how they are not able to pay their bills. I pull in less than 1200 a month right now before expenses and I make it work. I could NOT work and more than double my income! Why the f don't I do that??! Someone tell me. I am genuinely considering buying a bike from a pawn shop and converting it to an e-bike, and changing jobs due to the car failures. I currently have two non-working vehicles and no income. Rent is due in 4 days, but you'll be damn sure I'm paying that.

1:00 I love it!!!! I am a dropout would-have-been wanna be electrical engineer. Taking the two hots from two outlets on separate circuits to make 240v, dude, that is right up my alley! Due to some accounting BS, my electrical service was disconnected at an apartment for about 2 weeks. I did the exact reverse of what you are talking about. I plugged into an outlet in the common hallway. At first I was running things from a surge/power strip and more extension cords. Then I split the extension cord and ran to two outlets on different legs to 1) get power to every outlet and light, including fridge and PC. 2) to TEST if the AC worked - it did. But I absolutely could not run it off a Dollar General extension cord longer than a moment. I tucked the power cord under the baseboard edge and either maintenance didn't notice or didn't care, but it lasted long enough to get power turned on, I just had to be sure I disconnected it BEFORE they turned the power on, otherwise there could have been a severe short circuit and damage the distribution panel at the apartment, potentially injuring a worker... SO BE REALLY CAREFUL IF YOU ARE GOING TO STEAL POWER

A couple of months ago, before watching a Technology Connections video on the US electric grid, I would not have understood how you could have hooked up that AC at all. I am learning stuff all the time! - My gripes with federal agents coming into cities. 1) the occurrences of them not identifying, and not clearly stating charges upon arrests/detention is a big problem. 2) Any federal law enforcement MUST coordinate with (or at least inform of plan) local law enforcement. 3) NO cops need camouflage in a city. Maybe, possibly, a fringe justification could be made for law enforcement trying to infiltrate a rural criminal stronghold. Maybe. But in nearly all cases, cops do NOT need camo. It just makes them look like military, and people who are already in a heightened state of emotion will be more likely to react as if they are.

Louis, you should seriously contemplate the idea of selling and repairing electric bicycles and also fixing regular non-electric bicycles on your shop for customers. Once you get all the basics mastered, you pretty much know how to repair all bicycles since fundamentally they are all the same with just some minor differences (some have disc brakes, others have V brakes while the rest have the standard top mounted on the wheel brakes).

I don't know about NYC but the federal law enforcement in Minnesota is not unmarked as some news outlets claim also it only takes a small area not acting civilized to destabilize a city even if most of it is fine also the unstable areas in Minnesota are actually fairly peaceful during the day but the violence is at night so you can look all day everywhere and see nothing but then shit goes on after the sun goes down.

In the video I saw where they are showing unmarked police, they say POLICE in 2 inch tall gold letters on their chest and have number patches visible on their shoulders. Apparently the camera person and 75% of the people who saw the video missed that. Even weirder is the 75% doesn't go down when you show people the ID markings in the video. I guess that means they would rather believe twitter than their own lying eyes.

I think it's good to hear about the states in the US and NY in particular aside from what can be seen in forums. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. How about painting the boards with something that makes it stand out less. But if there's an eviction race coming up, then you should look at 1" of steel cover instead of just plywood. For the electric bike build, look at the Anderson DB50 connectors to connect the power leads in case you want it to be easy to disconnect/reconnect or connect a charger. Those are hermaphrodite connectors so you don't have to worry about male/female connector. Often used for electric winches, electric fork lifts etc.

Police, or rather safety, security, and ensuring fair/transparent business, are a basic mandate of a government. If a government isn't fulfilling it's very basic requirements it has no reason to exist, more practically if the city doesn't fund the police they have no ability to control anything. What are they going to do? Send a very strongly worded letter to people? So if the city is cutting funding, police are the very last thing they should cut. A break down of law and order, is a destruction of the foundation that literally everything else rests on.

3:10 Exactly.. So can I even stop doing my job as an IC, effectively closing my business and laying off it's one employee since I took the PPP loan? I paid myself, as the owner, for lost wages, that's my "forgiveness criteria" if they ever release that final rules. But if I then close and fire myself, do I need to repay the loan? I should have just stopped working and gone on unemployment. But then there is one less person contributing to the economy and I don't want to be a part of that. If I can work safely, I will do so, but that means I cannot milk the benefits.

It's big in some places, and I agree with you. Whatever it takes to stop the rioting, looting and destruction is what needs to be done. If police are insufficient, or hamstrung by inept, cowardly or complicit local governments, then the feds need to step in and do the job. The election complicates matters. To answer your questions from my perspective: New York doesn't seem to have it so bad. The protests there have not descended into hellish, violent chaos for some time. That is not the case in a few other cities, most notably Portland, Oregon. Given that, and what happened in Seattle, what has been happening in Chicago, and to a lesser extent in other cities, I think the feds have shown extreme restraint. The president can invoke the Insurrection Act and rain down federal police, federalized National Guard, and even the military proper--without the invitation of state or city governments. He has not done so, probably because it's an election year. He doesn't want to take the bait, and make himself look like a dictator--which is part of what this insanity is about. After the election is another story. I have a feeling that, whether a man who enrages so many people wins, or whether a man who hardly knows where he is anymore wins, the bullshit on the streets will get forcefully ended in a hurry. Nobody in power wants it to continue after it has served its political purpose of making the current administration look bad. That's just an opinion, of course. November 3rd is a fork in the road for the country--perhaps the most important election since Lincoln. There are too many variables for me to be sure of anything until after that date. As for right now, what has been named "Operation Legend" aims to protect federal property, wherever it may need protecting. The federal police are in cities like Portland to do just that, which includes pursuing and arresting anyone involved in violence against the properties or the officers protecting them. I am all for that, and much more. A society can't prosper while there is no security or rule of law--it can only regress without them. Eventually, these have to be reestablished in the cities under attack, and wherever else needed.
@Shadepariah4 жыл бұрын
If it's 1% violent, it's going to be 100% of the shot on TV. I would personally leave any protest that became even 1% violent, but I understand if you try to get rid of bad eggs and nothing works. My only question is how come "right-wing gun nuts" can have a protest where no violence occurs WHILE CARRYING GUNS in Virginia AND clean up after themselves but every time there's a protest in a large city over a prominently left wing issue this year SOMEBODY has to throw something at somebody?
@JB-ym4up4 жыл бұрын
There were a couple protests where someone went rogue and tried to start shit and the protestors took action to remain protestors by handling the offenders. This is very interesting. You know, DeBlasio administration started raising rents on small businesses in Brooklyn Navy Yard by %50 as the old leases ended. Now they are talking about squeezing private landlords with the new legislation but refused to re-negotiate rents for existing tenants under their controll. And, there's that WeWork building that stands tall and empty. I don't really see the solution either unless there's a significant federal aid which is not likely.
@SkylineFTW974 жыл бұрын
Aid isn't a solution. It's kicking the can down the road. As long as these cities keep up reckless spending, they will doom themselves. And by raising taxes, they'll scare off the wealthy people they need to keep funding things. They need to cut spending. Same as any individual who is running short on savings or leaves themselves with nothing after their bills are paid and they bought everything they want.

Eliminate pork barrel spending. Cut off the scam of public pensions (which are a Ponzi scheme in everything but name). Throwing aid money at it just means that they have no reason to analyze for waste. And it just leads to more money printing, which devalues the currency further, causing even more issues. Are you also suggestion to eliminate existing pensions? How would that work? Also, aid as an investment. Majority of the industrialized world enjoys a high speed train system. Public transportation systems surpase MTA by far. I bike commute in NY because it gets me faster to destination.

Thanks for the live update... City's should prepare to manage the riots.. if not people move, no feds unless the riots are bussed in...

You know, if you're going to do this long term, might I advise putting a 240v braker in your box? it does the same job as the cable you made but is intended for the job and less likely to brake or get damaged with proper wiring.

NYC has 0 accommodations for property tax increases while they put a rent increase below the amount their own board calculated should be the minimum to keep up with increasing operating costs have gone up 3%. Instead of doing the minimum increase the math shows they make it 0 to screw rent stabilized landlords. Major improvements can't be recouped anymore. New roof, new boiler ain't happening until it's utterly broken. NYC continues to raise water and sewer costs.

6:40 I sense the collapse of a bubble. Realistically, you have a structure with say 36 apartments 3Bed2bath, it's valued at, IDK, 8M. You have a loan that in total is costing 20M over 15 years. That means you pay, excluding taxes and insurance, just on the mortgage, 1.3M/year. With 36 units, you need to charge at least 3k/month per unit to just cover the mortgage. You can probably charge 4-6k because it's NYC, and THAT is where they are making their profit. If no one can afford their rent, they will have to move and demand will drop. Which it already seems is artificial, landlords will hold out for the Chase bank versus making a reasonable deal with a small business. It has every sign, smell, taste, and texture of the dilapidated, molding, pest ridden structures they are holding on to because they have money in the bank and are betting on a bubble. Newsflash: The bubble is about to pop.

I feel that bringing in federal agents to control rioting, I am for it with a few conditions, one that the local PD cannot control the riots, two that the local government requests federal aid, three if federal buildings are being attacked, (but then the federal agents shouldn't do anything off federal property, even tear gas, fourth, if there is a known terrorist attack plan found and identified. In all these cases no federal agent should use physical force on unarmed people who are not doing physical attacks or threatening anyone. Every police force should be looking to de-escalate the situations, not just come in to beat down anyone standing there.

We have a few tenants that said I'm not paying even though they are employed because they don't have to and can't be evicted. The honest ones that are hurting communicate it and we make accommodations.

Love these videos, they're like getting a personal tour of parts of the city, and you're chatter is interesting too. I do wonder why you haven't got exterior shutters on your shop?

Keep the wood Louis. Think about adding an extra layer, and some flame retardant coating perhaps. The tail-end of 2021 is going to get ugly.

He's right! I'm just a short 45 minutes away from Brookfield Wisconsin. It is a lot nicer than New York and so much cleaner. Brookfield is a nice area just outside of Milwaukee. I go through it all the time. Oh! And there's a Portillos in Brookfield that I go to all the time. It's soooogooood! 😋

You’re bike route doesn’t compare to Portland or Seattle. BORTAC and US marshals Service are protecting the Federal courthouse. In any case they have a long history doing this kind of thing. In NYC less likely.

15:40 100% for it. I think some of the mayors were being stubborn because they are democrat leaning and didn't want to accept help from Trump. I think law and order is important, safety and security is the exact, number one goal of government, local, state, and federal. When one level is overwhelmed, the next steps in to help. I think these municipalities need to accept help, restore order and allow businesses and people to operate without fear. Peaceful protests for criminal justice reform and law enforcement tactics should continue as necessary. Organized crime and violence wherein bricks, lasers and commercial fireworks are used as weapons against law enforcement needs to be stopped immediately. Gang violence and shootings need to be investigated and solved at the core.

Greetings from South Africa. The street in the city look far cleaner than any major city here and far safer. Here you would not even attempt to ride a bike with a Go Pro and a Phone, because you will probably be held up at gun point.

There may come a time when all the evicted people will travel as gangs and take over entire apartment complexes and just squat because there is no place to live.
