Power command is often some form of SMBus connection. It's a management bus, also used for things like RAM speed detection, monitor configuration. A lot of business product with non-standard PSU have those connectors for data.

I love my sff acer predator G1 710 so far the best cpu . Been rocking it for a decade this 1080ti & i7 7700 tandem just don’t give up on me. I want a home lab server/ nas to use for productivity and was loving the micro/mini/tiny ff’s. Looking to see what other are trying and you gave me ideas. I am non tech person but loves having the nicest french kiss techs out there

I'm most surprised that a Z2 G4 barebones is only 3500 yen, because over here (just one ocean away from you, I guess) these used servers or barebones models are ridiculously expensive. I've seen people selling core 1st gen tower servers that are over 10 years old for tens of thousands of yen. Ewww. Anyway, it's always fun to see these pre-built PCs analyzed, there's something about them that you just don't see in a typical assembled PC.

Thanks for your support. On the flea markets in Japan now, the Coffee Lake OEM barebones at this time are under 7000JPY (for mATX chassis like Dell Precision 3630 Tower, HP Z2 G4, NEC Express...). The SFF barebones (like the one in the video, or Dell Precision 3430, ...) are much cheaper due to the limited upgradability. In general, I feel the used OEM chassis in here lost their value drammatically.

Undervolt the gpu. With UV drop 8c my RTX A2000 with no performance changes. With 1200mhz core clock core + UV temps goes lower 15c Blower cards Work better in that cases. Three fans push hot air to the sides that case dont let out hot air to the sides and the temps raises quickly

Great video, enjoyed watching it. Recently I came across an idea somewhere that SATA power supply is not suitable for video cards, it is not designed for these currents. The person wrote that his video card died this way. I would not change anything from the plant, because it is thought out for its tasks and purposes. I'm really glad you enjoyed and appreciate your opinion. About the death of GPUs, as I know, it's usually because of the voltage (overvolting), not current (directly). Poor voltage filtering from PSU could be a reason. The current could cause the issue indirectly, by melting the insulation and shorting the circuit. About the SATA power, I can't deny if we use the SATA connectors with different purposes other than designed purposes, there would be risks. What I did to reduce the risks is to use two SATA connectors to 8-pin for reducing the current. The RTX 4060 takes up to 110W(~9A@12V). A single SATA rail can withstand 50W(~4A@12V). The PCIe x16 also provides up to 75W(~6A@12V). So, in total, we have 3 rails for 9A, then I guess/hope a single SATA will take charge for ~3A. But, of couse, it's still theory. There're many other hidden risks I can't cover (like low quality adapter's connectors, high resistance wires, power delivery hierarchy of specific GPU models ...) which might affect the SATAs current. I need to do more measurement to ensure that. Thank you for raising awareness!

I have something like that but like a real sff,it's dell optiplex 9020 SFF it come with intel core i5-4590,4gb x2 ram,Seagate HDD 500gb 3,5. i got it for 25 EUR. Now i'm using it at daily drive,i upgraded ram to 16gb (4gb x4) and custom modded SATA power cable so it can power 2 hdd's,and i putted in 240gb kingston ssd 2,5 and WD blue 500gb 2,5. It have 255w PSU 80+ Bronze,and i will get soon an 1050ti 4gb low profile for it bcs igpu isn't good. Good luck brother with all that,that's cool,that's what i'd wanted to do xD

The G2 Z4 SFF cannot accept 5.25" drives, but it can accept slim form factor ODDs. Some manufacturers, like SilverStone, sell compatible products, and if you're lucky, you might be able to find one made for HP.

@@EroKooreha well because RM, most of Blue-Ray need specify model of BD driver with specify device driver, at last time i go to check the list is usable device looks they are all 5.25 or USB device. so the easy way actually is buy a MFF form factor pc and 3D print case to fit those 5.25 driver and hide sada cable 😆

If opening the case can fix the PSU thermal problem, I would just leave the case open. If it is dusty, I would just use a fan blower to blow out the dust while holding all the computer fans. I just think that SATA to 8-pin is not a good long-term option if you are a heavy gamer. It should be fine for casual gamers.

I've seen people using multiple of those connectors for mining, and they say that the probability of fire increases dramatically if the power requirement is over 53W.

Yes, a single SATA are designed to support 50W at 12V (around 4A). So I tried using dual-SATA to 8-pin, to reduce current stress on a single SATA. My concern is that the SATA routed via the motherboard, not directly from PSU as consumer PSU. So the board might get current stress.

I see. If it can withstand the stress from mining, it is probably good. Yea, it may stress the motherboard a little bit. Replacing an OEM motherboard is not too expensive by the time it breaks.

You're right, for those RTX 4060, no doubt they're overpriced. But when going for the SFF PC and low profile GPU, the one in the video - RTX 4060 low-profile - is the most powerful among low-profile cards at this timing.

Thanks very much for your information. I totally agree, if you mentioned about Middle Form Factor build. But for Small Form Factor, the price perception is different. I will emphasize again about SFF build. The 4060 low-profile is 1.8~1.9 times faster than the 3050 low-profile (70W, 6GB version). Even comparing with the regular version (the 8GB version), it's still ~1.5 times faster and has 20W TDP less (110W < 130W). Needless to say you have the latest features like DLSS 3. So it's a pointless comparision the 3050 LP build vs 4060 LP build because the performance difference is huge. If you need the 4060 performance and a SFF chassis, there isn't many better options now. There's one thing I can't agree more is the CPU choice. For pure gaming, i7-8700 could be a wiser choice over the i7-9700. They has no noticeable difference in pure gaming, so the cost can be reduced a bit if you choose the 8700.
