I really like how unbiased pitch meeting is. Ryan will criticise the greatest movie of all time just as much and in the exact same way he criticises the worst piece of media to ever be created. The only time I’ve ever seen him do otherwise is in the John Wick pitch meeting, where he said ‘you’re making it very difficult for me to ruin this movie’ (which he’s explained further in once of his follow up videos)

Yeah I don't find that very unlikely at all. Not with a large family and stressed out parents and a big rush to do something they don't usually do. Mental bandwidth. Not noticing until they are halfway to Paris is a stretch but not far enough to break the disbelief. And to me the film always implied there was some greater force at work that caused this whole series of coincidences, just to teach them all some lessons. Maybe it's just the theme music and the way it plays during the storm, but to me that always suggested some sort of magic was at play. Why else would you add that kind of creepy theme to a film like this?

Die Hard is over 9000% more Christmas Movie compared to so many “Christmas Movies”; like Jingle All The Way… and oh so many others…
@justforever962 күн бұрын
Jingle All the Way is a bad Christmas Movie, but it's about Christmas. The whole plot and theme revolves around Christmas. Die Hard is just an action movie that happens to be set around late December and there are some Christmas decorations hanging up. It's a "Christmas movie" for people who just like to watch a dude blowing shit up and shooting bad guys, but this way they can say "yeah I'm watching a Christmas movie" because they feel like they need to watch something. And I don't care if that's part of your tradition at Christmas. But it's not actually a Christmas movie, beyond that people insist on calling it one and treating it as one. The way _Wizard of Oz_ is a "a Thanksgiving Movie". Has absolutely nothing to do with the holiday (other than her being thankful to be home, and for her family, I guess), but because people watch it every year at that time, it's now associated with the holiday.
@davidgannon53882 күн бұрын
22:17 - Die Hard takes place on Christmas Eve, at a Christmas (not "Holiday") party, there is Christmas music throughout, there are Christmas motifs throughout, and, at its core, it is the story of a man trying to reconcile with his wife so he can spend Christmas with his family.

In Elf I'm surprised you didn't mention how the publishing company was planning to steal Peter Dinklages characters intellectual property after he left his notebook in their office.
@justforever962 күн бұрын
Stuff doesn't become "intellectual property" just because you thought of it and wrote it down somewhere. It has to be published and/or copyrighted, and that only applies to the exact words you wrote, not general concepts and ideas, plans, etc. You can't "own" something like that. Otherwise any time a CEO leaves a company he could sue the company for "stealing his ideas" if they keep pursuing the same goals they were when he was in charge, because look, see he even wrote it down in a notebook, so that idea is his property and no one else can use it. Of course it's pretty slimy to use someone's ideas without trying to credit them or share the profits with them. But it's not theft.
@F0XD1E2 күн бұрын
@justforever96 You are wrong about how intellectual property works. He absolutely could sue to prove they stole his ideas directly. And a CEOs ideas while they were acting CEO did not belong to them, they belonged to the company. That's how all corporate IP works. That's why companies own the patents in their products, and not the individual engineers that designed them while they worked there.

Not so improbable. When David Cameron was Prime Minister of the UK, he left his child in a pub. Instead of being horrified, most people were sympathetic. Standard example of British parenting, which is why we are the way we are. Taught to fend for ourselves at an early age, surviving only off pork scratchings and beer dregs. It builds character - apparently.
@justforever962 күн бұрын
Yes, because the "always hover over your kids and lavish attention and gifts and praise on them" school of parenting has been working out so well. So thrilled with the latest crop of well adjusted and mature young people, all well prepared to head out into the woods and take charge of their lives. It's going great. 👍 Really glad I grew up in a era when I was allowed to just run around outside all day and go where I wanted when I wanted and had time and freedom to just be a kid without a parent constantly helicoptering over me. I personally feel like I learned very valuable things that way. Although on the other hand my parents wouldn't have brought me into a bar, even is that was legal, because neither of them drinks.
