Remember to give a HUGE thank you to Maddi for inviting us into her space. We are guests in HER home!! Few people are brave enough to share their private spaces with strangers, let alone with the wide internet. And if it weren’t for generous people like Maddi, then this whole series would not even be possible. Thank you Maddi for being such a joy to spend the day with, for cracking me up, and for great deep talks as well. They don’t make em like you often, and I am very grateful that you shared your home and life with us❤

☔ 🥾 🥾 ☔ 👢 👢 ☔ ~ @Maddi_Marie --- P.S. I was thinking with the right size & type of baskets or containers - there's a lot of open space on the top shelf of your "Mud Room unit" too ... ☺️

Maybe a light or a plant on the top shelf of the mudroom unit. What are those white circles in some pictures of Hazel? Pearls? Pom-poms? Whichever, she’s lovely.

I'm trying to learn from you: - sort out unnecessary things first - clear the room as empty as possible to be unbiased - define zones - physically move large objects around the room until it fits - Use a rug to define zones Decorate: - use different heights - Combine large and small pictures - Arrange things in groups of three or odd numbers - Group things together with trays or similar. I hope I have understood this correctly. I find it most difficult to define the zones. With you it always seems logical in retrospect, but beforehand I have no idea.
@inkandcaffeine

rugs are an easy definition tool but another thing ive found is color palette! our open concept is a bit annoying (& we have a fluffy dog so rugs are hard to keep clean) BUT i found doing black furniture in the 'living' & light brown furniture & decor in the 'piano/hobby' area makes them feel separate!

Zones were always difficult for me too. I started to define activities which are people oriented rather than zones which are spacial for me. And it is better understood by clients as well. Then I write down what is needed for the activity (ie office-storage, joga-jogamatspace and space to move arms around 😅) and then it is tetris ;) It helped me lot of times.

I have helped a few people with their spaces exactly like this, but I go a bit farther… I make them empty out every drawer and every space, like the line of white drawers there with the desk, I would have had her empty all of it out. Don’t let anything live in that desk that wouldn’t be used there. I helped a friend clean out her crafting room, and made her empty every tote and every drawer. When she would buck it a little bit, I would say, but you don’t know what’s in that tote, or what’s in that drawer. She said I know everything that’s in that tote. It’s thus and so. But I made her empty it out anyway. As she dumped it, she said… “ Oh there’s my Apple stylus I lost!” I love doing a dump out, clean up, rearrange job. I love watching your videos, Caroline. You’re like watching a granddaughter, since I am 70 years old. You’re just a cutie.

Rainn Wilson said once : Art is Prayer. You reminded me of that in this video, and how important it is to carve out and maintain an inviting space to create if that’s what calls to you. It’s more than just the function, it’s the lifestyle and connectedness to self that it supports. Unrelated: you seem very competent with a drill and I would love a short video tutorial / ideas on using one for mounting things to walls, and what else you need or any other tips you have as a self-taught queen.

After the last video like this I watched a week or so ago, I moved around some pictures hung up more artwork thats just been on the floor in a corner waiting for a home. "Shopping" a few things from 1 room to another. Grouping, decluttering.. realizing I've always done the shopping thing. I LOVE my home so much more! Its very intentional and emotionally fulfilling with things having a home and getting ride if the rest, even if its not "instagramable"

These are one of my favorite types of your vids. It gives me lots of ideas of how to refresh my space using what I have and then adding a few affordable additions. It turned out great. Your talent is your mind and creativity. I am also an artist but lack in ideas for rearranging and design. Thanks so much for sharing!! Truly enjoyed and appreciated it! ❤

Hey girl hey. I haven't commented in awhile but I'm still around. Always watching. And I still bake so I can enjoy you with coffee and special sweet snack. Today it's chocolate chip cookies with banana, organic oats expresso dust and sprinkled with Maldonado salt 😋! The coffee is a Hawaiian Island blend. Keep up the good work, and I love that you're doing a space working with what the client already has

Yay Caroline! I love these videos! While buying things sometimes is fun and nice, I think a lot of us could do with being more mindful about our impact on the earth and how much we are led to consume. It's one of the reasons why I love thrifting so much
