I am extremely interested in flying smooth, I am in flight school at the moment. I do not want to ever again have facebook (deleting it was one of the best decisions in my life), so is there a website I can order the stuff from? Thank you in advance

I'm in the UK, but I ordered them from Phidgets, in Canada, as the cheapest option for me. www.phidgets.com/?prodid=1093&fbclid=IwAR268EKG2UPSBHuVTwlwbjWKxMY_B__EerzMqso0PgN6AVd_Mt5Oh6yhlv8

How long you have the mod for ? is it reliable, any failure or other issues with it. DOF wrote me in an email that they tried planetary gear swap and that introduced noise, lashing and more point of failure and compromises reliability, so it's not worth it for them.

I've only been using it for a month or so, so I can't comment on any long term issues. DOF have taken a very defensive stance against the mod, but I have to disasgree with some of their assertions. There is no "lashing", because planetary gears have three gearwheels in constant mesh around the central pinion, so there's no detectable play when reversing direction, (quite unlike the original "worm and roller" gearboxes, which were extreme in that respect, because only one tooth of one gearwheel was engaged. The quality of planetary geared motors varies hugely, some even have plastic gearwheels. The Phidgets supplied ones are all metal, almost as heavy as the original DOF motors, and have a slightly higher torque rating for less current draw, (because of the gearing). I have no qualms about having done the mod, because it is so easily reversable if it ever becomes neccessary. It would just be a question of bolting the original motors back on and reconnecting the two wires. The original DOF direct drive motors undoubtedly have a faster maximum movement speed, but I find the geared motors are quite fast enough for my taste, and the smoothness in subtle movemnts in GA planes and helicopters is worth far more to me.

The only way to go slower and still have smooth movement would be to use gears.
