Eva Cassidy was incredible talent. Never gets old listening to her performances.

I have her on all day while working. She delivered so much beautiful music.

Harri, Cassidy had offers from record companies but turned them down because they wanted to change her and she refused to compromise. I am so grateful that her performances were filmed and recorded because otherwise she would have gone unappreciated. She did die within a year of her recording. I think her version of Fields of Gold cannot be surpassed. There is a KZbin video of Nick Fleetwood talking about her as he owned a club in the area where she lived and performed and they were acquainted.

Yes, Sting himself said she made the song hers and she sang it the way he should have done it upfront. Like for her Over the Rainbow cover, the new generation sings these classics in Eva’s way now. For instance, Angelina Jordan covered Fields of Gold based on Eva’s version.

One of her best friends said about her posthumously fame something like: "I must say this is exactly how Eva would have loved it to be. She was very shy, didn’t like many things that comes with the music industry. Letting her music do the job and talks for itself, this is totally Eva"

And to think… I don’t live too far from where she lived. I would’ve been honored to play with her.

I will always stop for an Eva Cassidy reaction. She makes me cry as well... and I'm not embarrassed.

Simply sublime. Such a beautiful voice. Thanks for your request, Eric, and to Harri for your reaction. It’s okay to cry. That’s what good art does; it brings out all emotions!

Wow. Just wow. This is new to me, and I grew up in the era of a.m. radio and the King Flower Power Hour. And that's some delicate backup playing.

This is the same club and evening that she sang "Over The Rainbow" and yes... she died 10 months later. She did know she was passing. (RIP, Eva).

My brother played in a band with her for a short time and I would go to their shows and rehearsals. Hearing her in person is one of the best experiences of my life. We were going to ask her to sing at my mom’s funeral but then she died before my mom did. It was a crushing blow to the music community in DC.

I only discovered her about ten years ago. Such a talented lady.

A great artist. 09:29 I agree Harri: she is like another fave of mine, Lucinda Williams, in that she doesn't sing AT the audience. She sings with eyes closed, or looking anywhere but directly toward the audience (or camera). She is singing FOR the audience, but almost TO herself.

I grew up in the D.C. area and saw her perform many times, before she died local musicians held a benefit for her at 'The Bayou' a club in Georgetown, at the end of the night Eva was helped onto the stage, handed her guitar and sang one last song, the one she chose was 'What a Wonderful World' a few weeks later she was gone

Along with Karen Carpenter, Eva is my favourite singer. And this is my joint favourite song of all time (along with Superstar by Carpenters). I read that the guy who wrote and performed this song originally, heard Eva's version, and never sang it again, because she did it the way it should be done. The only way it should be done. Thank you for this. No-one ever reacts to this song, so you made my day Harri.

Eva Cassidy's magical rendition of "Nightbird" and Harri's reference to her singing "Over The Rainbow" are among the finest examples of her greatness. Tragically, Eva died, I believe, in her mid-thirties from melanoma despite having had surgery years before to remove the dangerous lesion. Eric, this was an outstanding submission, followed by Harri's excellent review.

Agreed, my friend. Yes, I believe she did pass away- far too soon.

I discovered this angel's voice just over a year ago. It made me so angry that cancer took this wonderful talent at such a young age. So very sad.

I think Joss Stone may have been inspired by Eva Cassidy. She has a similar style of singing. Try “Right To Be Wrong” for instance, which this song somehow reminds me of.

She reminds me of Susan Tedeschi in some way, or better.....Susan Tedeschi's voice and music lead me back to Eva Cassidy !!!.
