Just to be safe, when I say there is nothing wrong with you or the leader “doing the absolution,” I mean that you can say the words as a prayer. However, only a priest in Persona Christi can offer a true Absolution.

16:52 the Asterisk marks the spot where you go back to a few lines later. Sancta et immaculata is a responsory, so the Quia quem caeli is the response. Sounds like you got the hang of it. In the music there are lots of asterisks to mark different things. Some spots it marks the spot where everyone joins in - sometimes one person starts off solo, then everyone joins in at the *.

It's me again. The word Septuagesima is pronounced sep-too-ah-JES--i-mah. =) By the way, my copy of this book came today, not on the 23rd as I expected. So I'm able to follow along with you on this video. I think the asterisk simply points out what is repeated where you find the "&c". Kind of like the responsories in the Liturgy of the Hours after the scripture readings, where we the text shows "Glory to the Father . . . " with the three dots. We know that means to pray "and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. The next line begins with a red line followed by the beginning of a sentence, and we repeat the text above that begins with the same words. e.g. Vol I, p. 347, "---Your light will . . ." means to say that complete sentence that we said at the beginning of the responsory. Does that make sense?
@DeannaWillistonOFS2 жыл бұрын
Lol I might never get that word, but thank you. Also working on Confiteor (the whole prayer is a tongue twister for me). And, yes, about the symbols. I have figured that out along the way, but I don’t know The completing lines for all the prayers and had to write them out on a slip of paper which I keep in the book.
@johnandrez3 жыл бұрын
Dear sister in Christ, thank you for this video! Just FYI, I'm pretty sure the asterisk that you were talking about at around the 18:15 mark is simply marking off the section of the response that will come back. So, the first time you say the R, you simply say, "O holy and immaculate virgin, with what praises I shall extoll thee, I know not. * For he whom the heavens could not contain, rested in thy womb." But the second time you say the R, you start with where the asterisk was: "For he whom the heavens could not contain, rested in thy womb." It may seem a little redundant because modern prayer books have the space to simply write out the R after every V, but some of the older books had the R written out once with the asterisks indicating the 'divisions,' and then the Vs were written out one after another, and it was up to the reader to know that after every V, you repeat the R beginning at the asterisk.

@@DeannaWillistonOFS Then how are we expected to learn and be involved in something? I should have thought that the author and the Catholic Church would want us to learn and be more involved, instead of holding us back on something of their interest. They must surely grant permission.
@DeannaWillistonOFS Жыл бұрын
I understand your point and we could probably make videos of the Latin version (but my pronunciation in the psalms would be horrible). Baronius Press spent a decent amount of money making the translation, layout, chant, and appendices, so they do deserve the small price of the book. We know that if I made pray-with-me videos that many people would not buy the book, but just follow along with the video. The solution is finding a community that prays this Office. Another Avenue is asking a priest or deacon to help you; they are required to say the full Office and should be able to quickly figure this out.
@seppe1701 Жыл бұрын
@@DeannaWillistonOFS just needs to be a one off demonstration - not an ongoing thing. That way I'd be encouraged to buy the book. But buying the book now and getting myself into a fiddle and losing my focus would not be good. I doubt my local parishes priests have much of a clue. Never heard of these sort of devotions during my lifetime. I've only heard about them from the internet. There might be certain parts of the world or country that have knowledge, but not where I am and few people are interested.

Is the LOTBVM the same as the divine office or something different altogether, like in imitation of the divine office?
@DeannaWillistonOFS2 жыл бұрын
It is a shorter form, also with ancient origins. There are imitations, but the LOBVM is considered by many orders to meet the requirements of praying the Divine Office. Many active orders, in example: teaching, nursing, or social work orders prayed the LOBVM instead of the longer Divine Office.

Is it required to say both antiphons when praying by oneself? Also, for the purpose of the requirement of praying the office for the brown scapular, must I pray all the hours? I am just a layman and retired but my time isn’t totally mine. Thank you.

@@DeannaWillistonOFS I have the LOTBVM from Baronius Press. In most of the hours, there is an antiphon before the psalm and the same antiphon is repeated after the Psalm. I don't have my LOTBVM right here before me, or I'd point out a page,
@michaelliverani94402 жыл бұрын
@@DeannaWillistonOFS So, if you have the LOTBVM from Baronius Press, look at Matins on Page 5. There is an antiphone before Psalm 8 - "Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb." That same antiphon is repeated at the end of the psalm 8 followed by the first antiphon of Psalm 18. As for the Brown Scapular, to obtain the promises from Our Lady, there are things you can do: Pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and other things. When the requirement is given, it says to pray the office but not if one must pray all seven hours (Matins/Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers and Compline) or if just some of them would suffice. Don't go to a lot of trouble. I just thought you might be knowledgeable given your creating a video discussing it. God bless you.

What's antiphon 2 for? You described that antiphon 1 is used at beginning and then the end, but I'm confused about the second one.
@DeannaWillistonOFS Жыл бұрын
There is an antiphon for every psalm, that psalm gets repeated, and then a new antiphon for the next psalm. This edition does not number them, but many do (and yet only number it the first time and not when it reappears at the end of the psalm). Why the numbering helps: when praying in community, the Antiphonarian reads each antiphon the first time and every one the second time; the numbering differentiates these two situations.
